@JaxonH
I know what you mean. I watch several Nintendo focused channels.
But from the bunch I'd say AndresRestart has a wide spread interest in Nintendo games. Rule of 2 Review is basically Metroid focused but I like his"neutral" points of fews. Both very small channels.
I also have something for Pokémon/Nintendo (not the usual poketuber)... And so on...
I have several channels for each franchise basically.
@JaxonH Games discussion is dead now really. Or at least it feels like it. It’s either complaints, speculation/ rumor (but no talking about actual games that are announced or upcoming ), console wars, and infighting. Many Gamers are seemingly some of the most miserable people on the planet and news which needs clicks feeds that cycle makes it worse.
If you like something you are a shill or as one person that had nothing better to do told me yesterday, wasting your time. It’s horrible.

I still can't believe SMTV only got 8 seconds in the Direct. With how much Nintendo's been promoting Metroid Dread, I thought they'd do something similar for SMTV.
I just wonder with modern Microids logo as I saw three different colors for different kind of games. I saw green Microids logo (Microids as subtitle) for The Smurfs, Marsupilami, Asterisk, Siberia, etc.
Orange Microids logo (Microids Life as subtitle) for My Universe series.
Purple Microids logo (Microids Indie as subtitle) for Majestic Kingdom.

I used to frequent IGN voice chat podcast every week. At one time they had a good crew that really cared about Nintendo games outside of the main franchises. And Jose was a diehard Monster Hunter fan. Ever since he left though, it’s been kind of meh. Casey loves Monster Hunter, so they at least still have one person into that franchise, but it always seems like they’re the types of people who say, “Great that it’s coming to Switch if you have no other options but I’ll be playing it on my super powerful big boy console” for literally every single 3rd party game that comes to the system. Which is fine, I know there’s a lot of people like that who don’t really value third party games on Switch, but those shouldn’t be the people hosting a Nintendo focused podcast. There is a gamership of Switch fans who like and prefer to play their games on Switch, not because they “have no better choice”, but because that’s where they get the most enjoyment out of them. And if you’re going to host a podcast targeting Switch fans, maybe you should get people on there who actually like the system enough to want to play games on it, rather than just play it as a last resort for games that don’t release elsewhere. Like hosting a PS podcast where they’re like, “great option if you don’t have a PC or Xbox, but I’m gonna play there instead”. It would be absurd to PS fans to hear that on a PS-focused podcast. Yet it’s the norm when it comes to Nintendo. It’s not like there aren’t plenty of people out there who prefer to play on Switch.
As for the MH announcement, they may have not showed much, but it’s significance is substantial. Not because of anything they showed (although the new setting and flagship is something worth getting excited for), but because of what it is. It’s the G-rank expansion. The Ultimate Edition that’s practically a new game in and of itself. That’s not “just DLC”. It nearly doubles the content of the base game. At a minimum 60% increase. It’s so big they would literally sell it as a separate expanded game, at least until World released and they finally offered it as add-on digital expansion. Anyone who knows anything about Monster Hunter knows how massive the Ultimate version expansions are, and while it was expected, it was still exciting to see it confirmed, especially since I’ve seen several people claim they wouldn’t do an ultimate expansion for Rise.
It’s not every day you get a Monster Hunter Master Rank Ultimate Edition announced. So that in and of itself is noteworthy. People don’t have to jump up and down with pom-poms, but to ignore it entirely or dismiss it as lame? That’s ignorant. The last Ultimate Edition to be announced for Monster Hunter was World’s Iceborne expansion, which was massive news when announced. There’s no reason this should be treated any differently. At the very least acknowledge it.
@Budda
I’ve seen Rule of 2. I like him. He appreciates Metroid and Monster Hunter. But he doesn’t really make content for a lot of stuff. His videos are pretty limited to just the few things he really cares about most. Which is fine, but it doesn’t make for a good all in one channel. I had stumbled onto an AndresRestart video recently. But I can’t remember much about it and I don’t know much about the channel. Maybe I’ll look into that.
@alexwolf
I like Arlo, but I found his taste in games to be fairly limited. I was actually in shock that he managed to get into Monster Hunter Rise, finally. But that felt like an exception rather than the rule. I don’t have much confidence he’ll even talk about Bayonetta 3, for example. Or KOTOR. Or Splatoon 3. Actually, maybe he’s into Splatoon? I can’t remember. But I know that he’s usually pretty limited to like, Mario, Zelda, Paper Mario and Pikmin. At least he was excited for Kirby.
@Ryu_Niiyama
I noticed. I saw a ReviewTechUSA vid (I’m so done with him, I unsubbed a long time ago after he clickbaited me with false info one too many times) trying to instigate controversy over the N64 and Genesis games. I just read the headline and shook my head, like… come on dude. You’re trying to artificially manufacture outrage for clicks. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Nobody gives a crap if they have to pay an extra $5 a year or $10 a year or however much it ends up being, weighed against getting N64 and Genesis games with online play. It won’t be for everyone, but I haven’t really seen any organic outrage over it. Most people are actually excited, or at worst indifferent. Then I see all this drama with DreamCast guy, all this fanboy nonsense. Another person I don’t follow but I hear about it.
I’m involved in the gaming community because this hobby is something I enjoy and like to talk about. It’s fun to be hyped and share in that excitement with other like-minded people who are also enjoying and anticipating the same games you are.
I can appreciate criticism here and there when it’s called for, but it’s not something I want to dwell on the majority of the time I talk about video games. When I watch a review I don’t need a Siskel and Ebert breakdown of every nagging little thing “wrong” with the game. Just give me the bottom line- is it fun enough to be worth my time? Yes or no. Complaining about crap doesn’t make me happy. If something bothers me that much I’m just going to play something else instead, not spend all day talking smack about it. But it seems a lot of people thrive on negativity.
I take no issue with speculation if it’s based on actual evidence such as a viable leak or inside information, something which actually lends credence to a higher possibility of its existence. But it’s not something I want to spend all my time talking about.
@JaxonH Oh God is Review Tech still around? Is his channel just a click bait channel now, it’s been a few years since I last saw anything of him so I can’t remember what he did. Though it could always be worse. You could stumble upon Jim Sterling which really is just negative for the sake of negative, apart from when he gets raging about micro transactions.

I used to like Rich. Then he made a fool out of me by sharing misinformation on more than one occasion. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. He’s completely devolved to outrage and clickbait nowadays. It’s actually kind of sad because there was a time he gave reasonable takes.

@JaxonH I just watched Alanah Pearce’s reaction to the Direct. I was pleasantly impressed to see she does seem to have enthusiasm for what was shown. I rarely watch YouTube because I really don’t know what’s good anymore. Negative opinions drive views unfortunately.
It’s a shame to hear Rich has fallen so far. But again, got to get them easy views. Being miserable, negative and annoying seems to do wonders.

I mean dismissing it is kinda dumb but otherwise this didn't change my opinion for a second. I'd be thrilled to have a ton more if I was a Monhun fan but seeing it would be infinitely more exciting for me than just acknowledging it exists.
That might just be me though. Like Metroid Prime is my favorite game, but the only reason the initial Prime 4 teaser got me excited was because of the huge gap since 3 (or even any Metroid game that interested me). If not for that, I would've shrugged at it too.
@JaxonH I remember watching the last Spawncast and RGT said something that really shocked me, because it finally clicked with me what it is about modern gamer mentalities that drive me mad, and I am shocked none of the other cast picked it up.
He said, paraphrasing: "I hope this new Animal Crossing Direct has something in it that makes me want to actually buy the damn game".
That's when I realized, people just can't accept that a genre isn't for them. It's a life sim, that's not for me and I know that, but I don't go into a presentation on a game I know I'm not into expecting the devs to break away from what makes the game what it is to appeal to me by making it something else.

I think that highlights the difference between a personal opinionated reaction and someone who is a content creator there to recap significant announcements that other people may be interested in besides themselves. Metroid Prime 4 was an earth shattering announcement for Nintendo fans. Obviously showing gameplay and content is more “personally exciting”, but that doesn’t negate the announcement itself as being noteworthy and significant. Not asking people to pretend they’re personally excited when they’re not, just don’t pretend like it’s not a significant announcement. And any big game like that that gets announced is significant, whether they show something for it or not. It’s mere existence as “in development and coming” is worth acknowledging and talking about. And, for many, it’s also incredibly exciting. I jumped out of my chair and ran laps around the lab at work when they announced Metroid Prime 4.
Look how much ppl talked about Wolverine and KOTOR remake that were merely announced in the PS event, showing even less than MH Rise Sunbreak. Yet I guarantee you not a single PlayStation content creator skipped over those games in a recap.
@FragRed
So was I. Except the omission of Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, after she said, in her own words, “I’ve played a bunch of [World] and really enjoyed it”.

Well that's absolutely true. That became apparent to me with the direct early in the year, in which the vast majority of the games announced seemed pretty cool (and even one of the ones that didn't turned out to be really good anyway) and yet a decent chunk of people complained about them anyway. I find it unlikely or bizarre that someone would have reason to check out a direct in the first place if they're so disinterested in so many different games and genres. I think, at least to some extent, the games that aren't necessarily for me are still interesting to see.
@Haruki_NLI
Sounds about right. It’s a mentality of, “the earth revolves around me- everything is created for my personal pleasure”.
I also couldn’t really get into Animal Crossing. I enjoyed what I played, but it wasn’t enough to keep me playing. And that’s ok. Because I know there are millions of others who got hundreds of hours out of that game. And for them, that’s their Metroid Dread. That’s their SMTV. That’s their Smash Bros.
I think I’m done with Spawncast and just about everyone in it. Nothing personal against them but, I only have so much time to watch content creators and I would prefer to spend it with someone who shares the same values and passion for similar games as I do.

Well let’s get off the session about how people aren’t talking about games and let’s talk about games. What are y’all most excited for next month? I know metroid is the big star and while that is on my list, I am most looking forward to monkey ball. I think in part because beyond renting it for work (GameStop) I never got into the series. Yet I find that my interest in games that are built around simple fun has increased over the past few years.
It and super robot wars 30 will be my October purchases. I’m mostly stockpiling eshop money and saving for BF so few purchases for me until then. Plus the color palette looks soothing and the idea of Kazuma in a monkey ball game tickles me endlessly.

@Ryu_Niiyama
Monkey Ball and Metroid (and SMTV) are my most hyped games remaining this year.
I have fond memories playing Super Monkey Ball 1 on GameCube with my brother. Monkey Golf and Monkey Bowling are so fun. I have been wanting this remake for so many years I’ve lost count. I just saw an interview posted today where the Director said this game exists specifically due to fan requests after Banana Blitz HD.
I’ve always had a predisposition to gameplay focused “pick up and play without a major commitment” type of games. Which is probably why I like Nintendo games so much. Because almost everything they make fits that bill precisely. And handhelds for that matter. Super low barrier to entry, can hop out at any time. Easy in, easy out. Also enjoy JRPGs which have story, but, JRPG isn’t like some big cinematic game. You can usually just pick them up and play without much stress, do a bit of grinding, make a bit of story progress, and put it down.
There are exceptions to this and I do play other types of games, but I have to be in a particular mood to take on a game that requires a lot of commitment. Monster Hunter is different though. It requires more commitment learning the game than just about any other game I’ve played, but once you know what you’re doing, it becomes that pick up and play, easy in easy out gameplay focused game. And I only had to learn how to play once, and ever since then it’s been the ultimate pick up and play game.
Warioware and Cruis’n Blast are also recent releases that are the embodiment of gameplay focused, pick up and play titles. Just crazy fun. Mario Golf, too, I would say. It’s got 9 courses now which is a pretty respectable number. It’s perfect for hopping in for a round of 18 holes.
But anyways… Monkey Ball. Don’t pass up the mini games! The mini games are just as good as the main game, and maybe even more fun. The main game is quite difficult but they have added accessibility options for new players such as optional jumping and things of that nature. This release will be a stone cold insta-classic for sure. It’s basically combining the first 3 Monkey Ball games into 1 package (though to be fair, Deluxe already was a combination of the first two with a bit of extra content, so it’s more like 2 full games combined).
Metroid Dread is obvious hype, not just for me but probably just about everyone here, I imagine. How long have we been waiting for this? Each and every single E3, from the day I bought my Wii U, I’ve been hoping to see an HD Metroid revealed (me and probably everyone else who survived the Wii U era). Well, here it is. It’s finally here. Hype overload!
There are a number of other exciting games this year though. Tetris Effect is one I have to try. Just because Ralizah raves about it. Disco Elysium isn’t one that organically interests me, but I have to try it because so many people speak so highly of it. That can’t be for no reason. Dying Light is an absolute day one after seeing that new trailer today. It looks quality. Obviously it has some compromises just like Witcher 3 did, but it looks good. Gyro aiming = I support. Plus I’ve played it on Steam and it is a really fun game. Voice of Cards, day one. Demo was excellent. Anyone who hasn’t played the Voice of Cards demo, I recommend you do that. Fatal Frame, obvious day one. Mario Party (the first really good looking Mario Party in a long time), gotta grab that too.
And that’s just October!
There’s Star Wars KOTOR in November which, I am absolutely thrilled about. It’s a perfect fit for the Switch and a game I wanted to play so badly I actually purchased it on my iPad (and I don’t normally play games on mobile). Even went out and purchased a special m-fi controller just to play it. Needless to say, it was a horrible experience on mobile because it was built around a touchscreen experience, and the controller support was shoehorned in. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a buy. I think I’m actually more excited for this than Arceus just because it looks a lot better graphically and it feels more cozy, like how handheld Pokémon games used to feel. And of course, the main entrée of Shin Megami Tensei V. Hype overload just like Metroid.
And there’s Advance Wars and Danganronpa Trilogy in December. Can’t say I’m overly excited for these games, but I’m going to pick both of them up because Ralizah raves about Danganronpa and it seems similar to Ace Attorney, and I want to give Advance Wars a fair shake with the reboot. So ya. Talk about wallet busting…
Definitely Metroid: Dread for me. Of course, I'll have to finish Tales of Arise first, but I'll probably go ahead & buy it anyways that way I have it for when I'm ready.
Otherwise I'm interested in getting Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, though as I've never played anything in the series I'm conflicted on when to get it. I'll definitely be buying it eventually, but it's a case of whether or not I buy it at launch just to show support, or wait for a sale down the line.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@RR529
Fatal Frame will, in all honesty, probably go on sale within 6 months time. So if saving money is priority, it’s a good candidate for holding off. That said, it’s also a series that desperately needs support, so that’s also something to factor in.
There is an English Asian physical release you can import from Play-Asia, if physical games are your thing. That one probably won’t go on sale for a while though, as import games rarely do.
So… Metroid Dread. A question for you, @DarthNocturnal and @Ryu_Niiyama Standard physical release, digital release or Collector Edition? Amiibo too or no? Switch OLED to enjoy it on, Switch Lite, or current Switch? Handheld or TV (or tabletop, I suppose)?
Haha, I was just going to go by month to keep the lists small but ok, cool! I'm pretty stoked for Robot Wars 30, Disco Elysium, SMTV, Danganronpa (that felt like a personal get for me and I have the collector's edition on preorder) and Monkey Ball as I said. I do still need to get WarioWare which was a big get (along with Advance Wars) for me as I love tactics games but most of that stuff is in my BF (barring Advance Wars due to release date) cart. I'll have to rebuy Crusin' Blast (Best buy didn't honor the preorder bonus so I took it back) around that time as well. I'm still kicking around in all of the currently released pokemon games so I'll wait on getting pearl (had diamond originally so I'm good with that). I liked the Voice of Cards demo but I'll wait to see reviews...I didn't like that you didn't play the actual party from the Direct, because looking at the art I'm nervous I'm not going to like some of the cast members. So far though I want it which surprised me because I have no tabletop/D&D interest. Only "table top" games I like are chess variants (I play standard chess and two variants of shogi) and hanafuda (koi koi ruleset). Most of my BF cart are games from throughout the year that I expect to drop in price. Not to mention I have to finish getting all of the cave shooters. Also I'm getting Melty Blood Lumina but that's a given... I love fighting games.
Sadly I'm on the fence about Tetris Effect as I tried it on gamepass and it absolutely ROASTED my eye. I've not had a non 3ds or VR game put me in that much pain before. I'm sorta hoping that it might have been some combo of the font and playing it on a monitor, but if not I will stick with tetris 99. I'm a little upset about that but it is what it is. I can play most games and the ones I'm bad at are a genre I don't actually like (FPS) so I've been fortunate.
I'm not a star wars fan but I love that era of Bioware and since they are now a shell of their former selves and I fell out of love with them after ME1 and DA:O (as in I didn't like their sequels) I've learned to stop forcing myself to play a game I don't like merely because I enjoyed some of the characters and it has romance options that actually fit me. So I will give KOTOR a go because it will give me that old bioware feeling. I'm curious about Lost in Random and Astria Ascending and will try them along with Skatebird on game pass and if I like them I'll snag them on switch. Oh and Rune Factory 5 is back on my radar now that I can actually romance a character. I'm also curious about Spacebase Startopia and Tails of Iron, as well as Blue Reflection: Second Light.
@JaxonH I'm not actually hyped for Metroid as I have no attachment to the series other than Samus was a cool heroine to look up to as a little girl for me, but I am getting it as I'm going to start playing metroidvanias more. I usually prefer straight forward action platformers like the shinobi series (I'm actually not fond of 2D Mario or DK but I will play them both) so games that involve a lot of back tracking used to bore me; but I've wanted to give them another shake. Side Scroling Action Platformers seem like a lost genre at this point anyway (so that doesn't include the Messenger which has a lot of backtracking). Especially since Returns and Dread look/feel more responsive to me (I've at least started every Metroid game and find them to be too floaty) so I expect I may actually want to complete them. That being said I do have the amiibo preordered because I was not going to deal with lining some scalper's pocket. No OLED switch for me....I'll only cave and buy a third switch if it is BOTW/Zelda Gold themed (I'm expecting it so I am saving for it) as I'm fine with my DQ switch. If they had put a second SD Card slot on it I would have caved, but as is...even that pretty and larger screen real estate (and that perfect kickstand) isn't enough to tempt me. You know how much I spent on the DQ Switch. I'm playing that thing until it dies. I still have to buy the series x and ps5 after all and I will likely need a new TV after I move next year.
