I had completely forgotten that I had a big ole credit on my Nintendo account because I had a load of problems with Mario Kart 8's online functionality and after many weeks, they finally agreed to remove my licence and credit my account for the value. As such, I picked up Cruis'n Blast after all. I have only just jumped in quick in handheld, over the week I'll try it out docked.
In handheld, it looks and plays nice, especially as a lot can be happening on screen at once. Although at times the FOV can be really claustrophobic for some reason.
Those sort of old school, crunchy, takedowns of other cars - Burnout style - and the almost SSX style trick system are both fun little elements to add onto the general craziness of the races.
The one real problem, is that the total of the entire Night Cup I did was maybe 5 minutes? Like it's hard to really appreciate the track's set pieces when the races are simply going by so fast. I think the longest race in the whole cup was just a little shy over a minute and thirty seconds, one of them was well under a minute.
I guess this is sort of good for those who just want to dip in and out, maybe on a commute or something, but I really hope the later races are longer or they add in some kind of multi lap system - like maybe that goes against the set piece design of the tracks, but if I blink and the race is over, it isn't like I have appreciated the set piece more. I haven't even registered it has happened.

Alan Wake Remastered rating has surfaced for Switch.
Which makes sense. This game was leaked as coming to Switch long before it was even announced on other platforms.
@Pizzamorg
Average track is around 1 minute 45 seconds. There are a few shorter ones though, as you mentioned. I like it. In and out, doesn’t wear out it’s welcome. That feeling of wanting more contributes to its addictive quality, leaving you always wanting to go one more round. It’s very well suited to handheld play in particular. Being an arcade game, it’s designed to throw as many thrills at you as possible in a short amount of time. So I pick up my Lite, blast through a cup or two, and put it back in sleep mode.
It’s super fun though.

Yeah, I get what they are going for and I'm not saying it is a bad thing, I just dunno if I am vibing myself. Like I guess by the nature of the Switch, a lot of it is built around drop in out games and you have just gotta accept it. However, at the same time, sometimes you do wanna sit down and just have a session.
If the rest of the cups are like the opening cup, then I guess there is just no way to do that right now unless you sort of artificially force it. I guess if they do add online play you can really make an evening out of it, as you can just drop into random races for as long as you want.
However, as of right now, the biggest disclaimer I can give for this game is only pick this up if you're okay with the fact that you aren't going to really be able to spend an evening with the game really unless you sort of force it. This really is, as it is now, a loo break game. A very fun loo break game, but a loo break game all the same.
Playing through Xenoblade Chronicles for the first time. Looks and runs surprisingly nice on the Switch when docked. Seen some footage of the original and it looks pretty rough.
I'm about three hours in and it's all been fairly standard JRPG fluff but Iike the level of control the game gives me over things. Plus the combat system is pretty fascinating, it starts as this unwieldy, unintuitive ***** but slowly all the nuance of the system comes into focus and it's surprisingly satisfying.
Tell me Cruis'n Blast doesn't have the coolest vehicles of any racing game ever made (and these look even cooler now that they're fully upgraded with unlockable customizations)
@JaxonH
I want to ask about the control scheme.
Usually for Mario Kart games, A = Accelerate, B = Brake, R / ZR = Drift, L / ZL = Use item.
How about the control scheme for Cruis'n Blast ?
@JaxonH I’m loving the shark and triceratops hahaha. This game might be one I get now just for the fact you can be a floating shark, because I always just try to use the wackiest car in any racing game.
The vehicles look cheesy and fun. Looking at those images reminds me of the times I played a Cruis'n Blast at my local Chuck E Cheese when I was a little pissant.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
Cruis’n Blast is just pure fun. In fact, the game is gonna have fun with or without you playing it. If you hear the Cruis’n theme song jamming in the middle of the night, don’t be alarmed.
@Anti-Matter
Same. A is still accelerate, R/ZR is still drift. Except L/ZL is “blast” to use a boost. There are no items. Also, you’ll never actually brake. B will do it. But you’ll never use it. Also, X changes tunes and Y changes view. And there are tricks you can do. Tapping A twice does a wheelie, doing a wheelie while turning does a side wheelie, doing a wheelie off a ramp does flips, drifting off a ramp does a helicopter, and if you wheelie into the side of another vehicle it’ll pop you in the air with a few flips and boost you ahead of them. You can also take out other cars by ramming them.
There’s also optional “auto-accelerate” like Mario Kart and optional “motion controls” for turning like a steering wheel. I haven’t used either option, but they’re there.
@MsJubilee
You mean Cruis’n USA? This game only released in arcades 4 years ago.
Well, it's for games releasing this winter so, keep expectations in check. This definitely won't be an e3 blowout. Expect news on Pokémon BD/SP, Pokémon Arceus, Metroid, Mario Party, Advance Wars, some 3rd party games, another system added to Online, and maybe one or two moderate surprises.
It'll be good, no doubt! As long as expectations are aligned.

I am in the same position. Like on the one hand, more games is always good but on the other, it seems like after quite a quiet year for games overall, we're just gonna be hit with an absolute avalanche for like the next five months. I guess they couldn't spread them out better because of Covid disruption or whatever, but my wallet is already screaming and the avalanche is still basically just starting at the top of the mountain. I guess at least next year won't seem so dry, as I am going to be catching up on games from the end of this one/start of the next one I think well into next year.
