Yes, I was wrong about it not being a hybrid. I admit it. And somehow I am still hyped. Probably because it will probably have motion controls combined with all the buttons of a regular controller.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
I just thought of something.
Suppose someone takes the system out of its dock and goes out with it. Will another person in the house be able to play the system? I don't see how that's possible.
Kinda takes some of the "home" out of "home console," doesn't it?
The gimmick, in its literal definition (The attention grabber) is playing home console games anywhere.
Which I much prefer than some stupid control scheme that just makes certain genres a pain to develop for. A natural evolution of the gamepad, and I'm thankful it's not some completely different weird gaming concept like they were touting. It's simple. Play game home, play game out.
@Vee_Flames Imnot sure i get your point, i mean is a home console as long as you put it in the console, no way nintendo is going to let 2 people play different games.
@Faruko If Nintendo's newest console was practically a Game Boy, but it had a better lineup compared to the Switch, I would buy it instead. All I'm saying is that Nintendo still needs to prove this thing is worth my money. (But seriously, if they actually did release a retro Game Boy console Mini NES style, that would be AWESOME.)

@Vee_Flames I get your point! It being portable makes it a personal device barring it's use as a single machine for the whole family, as you can't rely that it'll always be waiting in the living room (daddy might have taken it to work... ). This is a possible reason why no families were depicted in the trailer... Only active single youngsters.
This is why I hope it'll be cheap so that as many people as possible will be able to get their own.
@BLPs Stay strong man (I assume you're a guy?)! Stay true to your vision and practice your art (practice really is the key I guess). One day you'll be making games that make people smile just like the best Nintendo games. (Fun fact: I study game development as well, in an University of Applied Sciences - our school isn't too good either...)
Nothing's perfect. While Battery life has me worried, I'm just as worried that the sliding controller parts will break or wear down easily.
She'll be right, generally Nintendo products are made well. My 3DS has probably been opened and closed ten thousand times, the hinge still functions perfectly.
@Dreamliner 1. It's like the Wii U if the GamePad was portable; it can be played on the main tablet device or your TV.
2. We don't know all the specs yet, but it runs on an Nvidia Tegra chip.
3. The screen likely shuts off when connected to the TV. In order to go into the "home console" mode, the tablet must be placed into a Dock (that covers the screen anyway), so yes, it is likely.
4. No. The Nintendo Switch uses cartridges, not discs. However, ports of several Wii U games to the system have been confirmed.
5. We don't know, probably not.

@BLPs What school is that? if you don't mind me asking.
I got a Degree in Game Design from Full Sail University Online, and they had weird design philosophy that I had to unlearn. I still haven't gotten a Design job (been two years now) but I am working on my own projects. Have a Card Game (analog) I am about 80% done with, just need a artist. I also have a platformer (digital) I am working on but it is in Pre-production.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
@Dreamliner Even if its the old tegra chip, that one was already EXTREMELY moew powerful than the Ps3/XB360
so more powerful than the wiiu is a given, if it goes for tegra x2, itll probably have XB1 in theory performance but probably with some downclock for more energy efficiency and less heat output putting it slightly behind it
@LegendOfPokemon Its more or less 5-6 months till launch, give it time, this one was just a reveal, we will probably have a nintendo direct on december or january to talk about the launch games and more stuff...
I guess. Kinda. Not really. It's a bit more like a far more powerful 3DS you can plug into your TV. Or a Wii U so power efficient it can fit inside the GamePad.
Also curious if the screen will be 720 or 1080...it should be 1080 at least, but...Nintendo...
The rumours suggested that it would be 720p. And if you think that's unbearably low consider this. That screen isn't very big. From the images the screen looks to be about as big as the Wii U GamePad. And the Wii U GamePad has a 480p display. I have tablets with larger screens than this that are 720p. They look fine.
It uses cartridges so no. Though at this point we don't know how they'll manage your digital purchases. Also there are technically ways they could go about getting some kind of BC. But I doubt it. Don't hold your breath.
This one is harder to say. In the trailer the cartridge shown looks very different to the 3DS cartridge in terms of the contacts. It also only has one screen vs the 3DS' two. And no touch screen at all when you're using it on the TV. More probable than Wii U BC but again, I wouldn't hold my breath.
University of Gloucestershire. I may as well be teaching myself on the side not gonna lie. What they teach has helped but the exacts arent for me or my ideas.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@BLPs Heh. I feel you man. I've been focused on graphics and especially 3D as of late (we do game projects that have us in different roles like coders and graphic artists) but the audio-visual teaching in our school sucks big time. The classes are mostly centered around coding and business (ICT, Business Information Technologies). So yeah, I'm not sure if it's the best place to be if I want to focus on training myself to be a graphics artist.
On another note, from the official press release:
"Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them."
I hope this means that there will be touch screen games which obviously wouldn't be playable as such when the device is docked! Limiting possible games to only those that must be playable with controllers when docked would be disappointing.
@Faruko While there still is a lot of time left before the launch to announce new games, I'm cautious because of what happened with the Wii U. Hoping for the best but keeping my expectations low.

@BLPs I have found too many schools go too far in teaching philosophy and don't teach students how to prototype and test their own philosophies enough. My school only taught me to use UDK and only taught me exactly what to do for certain things. I am having to teach myself everything else. I wish I got Unity experience in school, but I am going to have to learn that myself lol.

@LegendOfPokemon I get you, Nintendo will probably not commit the same mistake
it does gives me hope that being just 1 console, they can create a lot of software to sustain it till it amazes a big enough number so third party sees the NS as an actual possibility of ports.
I can see it having a very decent amount of first party tittles as launch games and some more in the pipeline to keep people occupied
