They are probably waiting for January to do a propper release, which is pretty fine honestly, enough time to develop more games and show them on a more mature state
SOMETHING nintendo really likes to do, most of their trailers are based on gameplay.
Makes sense. Focus on Pokemon and mobile for this holiday, then go all out-NX when the holiday hubbub is over to keep people interested. Smart move (but still unfortunate).

@Faruko I get that, but at the same time that's very convenient for pretty much lone gamers in a family. How about families with multiple gamers? If the Switch is taken out, the gamers at home will have to wait until it returns before they can play it. It's certainly going to create some conflict. And just to get to the point: the price of the system will have to be very strategic.
Obviously Nintendo aren't going to allow a system to play two different games. But it's going to be interesting seeing how they'll two related gamers to enjoy the Switch even though one component is away from another.
I'm pretty disappointed that we won't be hearing any more official information from Nintendo for the rest of the year. For those of us who plan to pre-order/buy day 1 it can be frustrating not knowing EXACTLY what to expect. Hopefully we'll be getting some 3rd party game announcements and the like next week, at least, if the rumors hold true.
I'm kinda curious about some of the more detailed specs of this thing. For example the controller sections themselves. They're wireless obviously so they'd have batteries. So I can only assume they'll both charge and supply a bit of extra power when connected to the main unit. In addition it'd make sense that they'd have motion sensors inside.
Therefore that centre controller section they showed? It doesn't need to have motion sensors. It doesn't really need to have Bluetooth either. But I'd guess that it has a larger battery, NFC and probably Rumble. I think that only makes sense. And I would then assume that the Pro Controller they showed is basically just the Wii U Pro controller again. Re-branded. I think we can fairly safely guess that every controller bar the GamePad that worked on the Wii U will work on this.
With the dock itself? I think it's fair to assume that it's just expanded I/O for the unit itself. It's entirely possible that there is a bit more going on there. It looks like it would have enough space for a 2.5" HDD internally. But not much else. I can't see anything like a vent or something in the trailer. Really, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything more than just basic I/O. A few USB ports and HDMI-out, possibly LAN. That's it.
The unit itself is really where the stuff is happening. That's where the WiFi and Bluetooth has to exist. It has to have some storage, it has to have basically all of the things. I reckon it'll also have NFC in addition to the controller middle. Purely because you can't scan an Amiibo while its docked and you can't use the controller middle if you're not at home. Other than that there's a headphone jack and the cartridge slot. I didn't see an SD Card slot but I assume its there. There are also vents on the top which suggests that this unit has active cooling. Which should put the "it'll be under-powered" people's minds at ease. And that's about it.
I reckon in the box you'll get the unit itself, the dock, the two controller ends and the middle section. Because beyond the unit itself most of this stuff would be fairly cheap to make.

@IceClimbers
It's obviously just wild speculation at this point. Far more to go on than we had yesterday though. Although in some respects nothing much has changed because this was all leaked beforehand.
I think the bigger question than the Pro Controller is the "Grip" middle section. The Pro Controller can be whatever it wants. Doesn't matter. But the Grip? It could be anything. It could be more or less just a bit of plastic to a Swiss army knife of sensors and connectivity.

@skywake My question is what those lights on the Grip represent. They look similar to the lights on the Wiimote and Wii U Pro Controller that designate which player you are, but I'm not sure that those LEDs are serving the same function.
First of all. I got to say, this is an interesting concept that Nintendo is doing.
Second of all. i'm excited for that new Mario Kart, Mario game and Splatoon if/when they get annouced officially.
and third of all, i'm loving the idea of this hendheld being taking anywhere and the console being used at your home.
i really want too know more about it. and what games it well have.
Nintendo did really well on the trailer, i'm liking what i'm seeing
but well third party stay with this for too long? im hoping their taking those words for it.
well just have to wait and see

@IceClimbers I'm pretty sure they do tell you which player you are. There are four of them and you can see in the video that when he disconnects the Joy-Cons from the Grip the light is gone as soon as they're apart. I wonder if you can just casually switch player 2's left controller with player 1's left controller and then you're controlling both player 1 and player 2, at least half of both.
Some thoughts on what we've seen/not seen so far. Overall, I'm loving it but sure there's a lot to be concerned about
Hard drive/battery life: I'm going to put these two together because I think the answer to them both is to expect adequate amounts of both. I think Nintendo are going to want to make this thing as affordable as possible so expect no more than 32gb storage. I also think we are going to be in the 3-5hr battery life territory.
Now, in my opinion for my needs that is perfectly fine. I would plan on using cartridges and I can't fathom needing more than a couple of hours of life without having the opportunity to recharge. And I think that is going to be the case for the vast majority of consumers. It's the hardcore gamers who will have to think of workarounds. So if you want extra storage then invest in an SD card. If you want more battery life then get a portable charger. Both are very affordable nowadays. For example, I have a 22000mah portable battery charger that I would definitely take with me if I was getting a long haul flight for example. But for most everyday needs like an hour commute to and from work? I think this will have enough juice for that.
Bezels/size: My only real gripe so far with what we've seen. Those huge bezels look helluva ugly. I'm guessing that Nintendo needed larger space to fit all the hardware in but couldn't increase the screen size because it would draw additional unwanted power so you get this annoying trade off of an slightly overlarge device with big bezels. It's not a deal breaker but I wish it could've been a tiny bit smaller with smaller bezels. That being said, if they put them to good use like notifications etc. then it wouldn't be so bad.
controller: Have to say it looks a bit weird so who knows how comfortable it is. It'll definitely support gyro (although whether that'll be in the separate joysticks is another matter). Time will really tell how good it is, but at least you have the pro controller to fall back on. My only issue here is if the default controller is pretty crap then I hope Nintendo make the pro controller reasonably affordable as an accessory.
Only other thing that really remains the million dollar question is how it runs games. I didn't really notice any difference from the Wii U versions of those games to how it ran here although I appreciate that it's only a trailer that I'm watching on youtube so probably hard to tell.
Overall, I'm sitting at a 9/10. Could push into a 10 once we know more about those ports. I hope they include a decent amount of new content that makes them feel somewhat fresh and new. What I'm saying is I hope it's more of A Link Between Worlds rather than Twilight Princess HD scenario.
So, what do we think is in the box? If they are hellbent on calling it a home console, then the dock should be included as a standard. Also the fugly control (the plastic one with the sticks). But pro controller is probably sold on the side.
Calling it a home console I think is solely to make people forget about Wii U as well as suggest the 3DS is still being supported. Like we've heard a lot since reveal, the Switch is basically what the Wii U should've been.
