@Operative She isn't even saying it's going to be a reveal, just that there will be "info on the NX," which leaves the door open for anything. If they announce that they haven't anything to announce yet, it's still technically information relating to the NX. While I don't think it will be that vague, I expect that Nintendo will tell the investors that it's still on track.
@Shinion Refunds should definitely be an option if the game is a buggy mess, or doesn't deliver on what was promised. A refund based on not liking the game, or just because you changed your mind shouldn't happen. Where VR and motion sickness fall on this scale, I'm not sure, I can see the argument for both sides.
@Grumblevolcano Not what you asked for specifically, but I'm not sure that the actual meeting would even be on the 26th.
Looking at the Investor Relations calendar found at Nintendo Japan's page...
( https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/schedule/index.html )
...you can see that the briefing is usually scheduled one day after the earnings release.
For example: Apr. 27, 2016 Fiscal Year Earnings Release Apr. 28, 2016 Fiscal Year Financial Results Briefing
The next scheduled event is Oct. 26, 2016 Second Quarter Earnings Release
so maybe the actual meeting is on the 27th?
Curiously the briefing is not visible on the schedual ~
@Shinion
I don't know about other countries but in Australia consumer protection stuff is law. It's pretty black and white when you should be entitled to a refund and when you're not. To the point where Valve was actually sued in the Australian courts by the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) and the ACCC won. Basically Valve put in their EULA that Valve reserved the right to refuse refunds. You can't do that in Australia.
But even here you're only entitled to a refund if the "product" is faulty. If it didn't do what it was advertised to do or what the salesperson claimed it could do. Or if it wasn't of an acceptable quality for a product of its type and cost. And even then you're not entitled to a refund if you used the product extensively. Or if you changed your mind about it. Or if you were shown the faults of the product beforehand.
So there should be a way to get refunds for games purchased digitally. No question about it. But there are definitely limits to it.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
@shaneoh I will assume that you are a far more reasonable person to have this debate with, or anyone really whose argument doesn't revolve entirely around "sucks to be you I guess, you should've known exactly how you'd react to this individual game based off of 1-2 gameplay trailers!"
My one question that still hasn't been satisfactory answered here as far as people arguing against refunds go- why/what would be so bad about a 7 day no quibble refund policy? 7 days/ one week, more than enough time to fully decide if you're satisfied with your purchase. No questions need be asked, though some could be wanted in order to improve the product, and yes, even "I didn't like it" is a more than satisfactory reason to want a refund, it has been for years- decades even- for a vast majority of businesses. It's alll about customer satisfaction, if you have such a strong respect for your customers and such faith in your products it's only a benefit, people are far, far more likely to enter into business regardless of what it is as long as they have the blanket insurance of a refund and video games would be no different, I know I for one would be far more willing to try out new games if I know I won't lose out for doing so. I have bought 1 full price game digitally across all 3 of my consoles because of this lack of faith, why should I be £50 out of pocket with no alternatives if I end up regretting a purchase? Because I didn't know everything about the game? Because I should've expected that EA would release Battlefield 4 in a broken state? Because I should've known that such-and-such a VR game would've been impossible to play without being ill? The burden here is outrageous to me, I'm already giving them £50 up front for crying out load.
The scammers excuse is equally ridiculous to me and one I can't fathom at all. When 'AAA' video games are selling multi million copies out of the gate due to the preorder culture that has been established over this Gen and the last, combined with how almost all of those 'AAA' games have microtransactions, DLC, season passes costing almost as much as the base game, and even now they're trying to worm in paying extra for early access. With all this combined, how much money will be lost to the handful of scammers who will take advantage of refunds? All of it? Lots? Half? Little? An entirely negligible amount? I think we all know the answer. Plus I really, really don't see why consumers should be arguing against basic consumer rights because they're worried at whether or not Peter Moore and his fellow CEOs will be out of pocket. It ain't my problem and it shouldn't be yours. This argument reeks of the tripe Ubisoft among other were spouting last gen when they were attempting to justify their half baked DRM PC ports on the basis that '90% of PC players are pirates" or some such nonsense. There's no worthwhile figures to back this up, and at its most basic level it's hard to class a pirate as a loss sale, if they were always going to pirate then there's no way you can say with certainty they would've bought your game if it wasn't filled with DRM BS. Same goes for refund scammers, if the only reason they bought a game was because they were going to refund then they were never interested in the first place and therefore aren't a lost sale. Plus lets face it when all the big games of this holiday are going to push or even break 20 (!) million sold units how many scammers would be needed to offset that amount? I just can't imagine a world where Activision cancel the development of Destiny 3 because 12 million of the 15 million sold units of Destiny 2 were refunded within a week. Like really? People think that will happen?
As far as the VR unique problem with illness goes that's another one where there is little basis for the argument. You can't play it without being ill, that is way worse for me than a broken or buggy game, The Witcher 3 was a buggy mess for me on PS4 at launch, a bit of pacience and a few patches later it's one of my favourite ever game. A game that consistently makes me ill on the other hand? I wouldn't be hearing it that it's somehow my fault or that it's not a good enough reason whatever that means. I mean it makes me ill. I can't play it without getting ill. Lemme hit that refund button please thanks!
I mean I don't know if it's a difference in culture and upbringing but where I'm from in the U.K. the 'no quibble 1 week money back guarantee' is so well established even my IPad I'm using to type this predicts that phrase right from the word quibble- for the last couple of decades it's been expected of most businesses. That's why people arguing against it using terrible arguments that weee terrible years ago will always bemuse me.
A 7 day money back guarantee. Is it really that alien to some of you? Im really interested, and sorry again but I wanted a well thought out piece to put here after all I said, and there's at least one person who is interested now that I've stopped being passive aggressive or whatever.
If the rumored 10/21 reveal is true, when is Nintendo likely announce the reveal date this week? Why can't Nintendo just announce a reveal date even if it's 6 months from now just to stop the reveal date rumors?
@Don Wednesday ends in 2 hours and 14 minutes in Kyoto, Japan. If there's no announcement about a Friday reveal by that time, then it's not gonna happen this Friday.
That's how I see it ~
We might still get an announcement of a reveal happening next week by this Friday.
@Moshugan
Nintendo usually has a financial results briefing for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of their fiscal year. It's never listed on their IR calendar, but it's always the day after their earnings release. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/index.html
We shouldn't expect much from the earnings release on the 26th. But there should be a comment on a launch date for the NX system, like the previous two earnings releases. If it's delayed, it will be addressed here. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2016/160427e.pdf https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2016/160727e.pdf
"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally."
As for the financial results briefing on the 27th, we should expect to see a little more. The presentation from the president will cover future products and services, and will be followed by a brief Q&A session.
The previous Q&A with Tatsumi Kimishima did not reveal much, but there were a few questions regarding the NX system. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/160428qa/04.html
Yep, I expect any information about the NX to be revealed there, but nothing hype worthy or too specific. Maybe a price point and when they'll really talk about its details. If it's delayed they will definitely talk about it here since it affects this financial year.
Anyways, I for one wouldn't have an issue with a refund policy existing. I think legally one has to exist in some form. But IMO if such a policy did exist? It would have to take into account the amount of time a person has played the game. Most story driven games can be beaten over a weekend without much issue. A 7 day "no questions asked" refund policy would be abused.
A more reasonable policy would be something like 30 days and <1hour playtime no questions asked. With possible extensions for particular releases that have major issues. And possible reductions in the number of hours/days for smaller releases.
There's a new IP in the works, "described as new, fun and crazy", "Nintendo doesn't have another game like this", she says. It's less Wii Sports in intentions, more Splatoon.
I don't think Nintendo have gone a generation without a new IP. This generation we've seen Splatoon, Face Raiders, and, soon, Ever Oasis and likely others I've forgotten, (you could half count StreetPass Plaza). In the NX's lifetime, we could see "Project Giant Robot," or whatever it is Anouma's being pushed to make, or something completely different.
Dillon's Rolling Western, Pushmo, Codename Steam, Boxboy, Sakura Samurai (how did we not get a sequel) and Rusty's Real Deal Baseball to name a few more.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
@MumboJumbo Thanks for the info! @MarcelRguez Nice find on that link @Operative Any specifics would be appreciated at this point, most of all, specific dates! xD @Don I'm keeping all of my appendiges crossed! ;D
@skywake A similar thing is true for Europe, by law you can get a refund up to 14 days after the purchase. In Steam's case I believe this is true provided you haven't downloaded or played the game. It's definitely true for PlayStation though. Still, I'm not entirely convinced that playing the game should also part be part of the deal. It's nice to have, but I don't think it should be mandatory.
Anyway, one could also argue that 1 hour isn't enough time to fully experience the game, where should we draw the limit? After playing 50% of the game? What if the latter half is exceptionally bad? Do we allow people to finish the game before paying? I understand that this is an exaggeration, but it's a potential issue. Where do we draw the line for small indie titles that only require 1-3 hours to finish them. Cause that has been an issue that was reported on Steam. People asked for refunds after finishing games. I think that in the end you're always taking a risk, this is true for buying all kinds of products. Maybe digital should adopt a system similar to what already happens with physical games, being able to resell the game for 25%-50% of the price you bought the game for.
So with no investor QA next week it's very possible we might not even get any NX updates there. If that's the case I just gotta say I applaud Nintendo for their sheer commitment to NOT talking about it. Geez Louise.
@Ichi I'm not a teacher, I can't just hand out detentions.
Discussing is one thing. Trading insults is something else.
He hasn't directed anything at you personally, even though we know what's going. What he has done, arguably, is embarrass himself by saying he'll can it and then carry it on without naming names. You had the option to come out of this on the up by ignoring him. Instead you've gone with #5,482.
To be fair what point would there be in having a Q&A before the NX unveiling? All the questions are going to be about the NX. So why would they waste everyone's time? Honestly I can see them telling us when they'll reveal the NX. They might go a bit further tell us what the NX is actually called. Beyond that I don't think we're going to get anything.
Is anyone else simply exhausted by the simple fact that Nintendo still isn't saying anything? What I mean is, even the mention of the NX exhausts me, because I guess my brain has come to associate that word with disappointment.
