If the NX is a single screen portable could they be resurrecting the GameBoy line? It is one of their most know hardware brands, Wii might beat it currently, and I would image a design similar to the Original GBA
I would think it would have circle pads, more face buttons, and a bigger screen but something closer to GBA than say Wii U GamePad in my opinion.
@WebHead But they could release a GameGirl line of Pink, Purple, and Yellow systems that come bundled with cooking and dress up games... that makes it fair, right?
I like the Game Boy brand and I don't think there's anything wrong with the name. Women never had an issue playing GB back then. Of course, we now live in the "age of entitlement" so ...
The coolest Game Boy ever made, I still think it looks modern to this day. Now imagine that with a 6' screen.
It would be quite a hilarious and yet sad look at the times we live in if they announced a new GameBoy and got shredded to bits for it because it's not a game"person"
@MarcelRguez I know, but on the other hand the pretentious moralists cannot be allowed to win and spoil it for everyone, everytime. Game Boy is still a well-known name and they could get away with it and whether a storm. Many people have soft spot for brand revivals.
More food for thought, Nintendo had at one point planned to name DS, the "City Boy". It was reported on NL, I think.
@MarcelRguez
I think going back to GameBoy could actually be the best idea. Cashing in on nostalgia is very popular and the GameBoy is viewed very positively.
It doesn't have to be under powered, but lets face it, if the NX is a portable even with the Tegra X2 chipset, it isn't going to be as powerful or more powerful than Sony and Microsoft systems. While I am disappointed by a lack of power, at this point, I don't think we can expect a Scorpio or Pro competitor, especially on a portable system.
People only buy Nintendo games on Nintendo systems because people don't buy 3rd Party games because people only buy Nintendo games because people don't buy 3rd Party... It is a self fulfilling prophecy that a lot of people want Nintendo to embrace rather than trying to court 3rd Parties.
I would argue that now is exactly the time Nintendo needs to make gambles, but this GameBoy revival idea is actually Nintendo as normal in my book. Nintendo plays by their own playbook and it has bitten them in the back recently. Taking a gamble and directly competing with their competitors would be my personal preferred tactic from Nintendo.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
My imagination is already going wild like wouldn't it be cool if NX demo stations would appear in a lot of retailer stores all around the world?!
Getting the machine in people's hands would be the best kinda advertisement, especially if it's wicked cool!
(these are the kinda flimsy rumors that make the wait that much more frustrating)
@IceClimbers I always thought the "Boy" word was meant to describe the console itself and to lend it some personality. Like, "this is not just another soulless games machine, it will be your best buddy, always there with you, the little fellow". You know, like BMO from "Adventure Time"? Why do people assume "Game Boy" means "Games for Boys"?
@the-madprofessor Pretty sure it's not happening today. They're not going to stealth announce their new system. They're not that stupid.. At least I hope they aren't..
I think we'll get an announcement about something tomorrow and then actually see something Wednesday. Can't be certain what EXACTLY this is about, but I just can't see Nintendo pulling a reveal of anything without a days' notice at least (other than the 2DS, but.. come on).
@the-madprofessor Or, you know, it's him posting the colored version of said artwork on Twitter.
Plot twist: A PS4/XB1 port of Bayo 2 is happening, and Platinum Games will reveal that they were lying about Nintendo owning the game the entire time, with the lying being an obligation of the contract with Nintendo.
Fair reminder that it may just be a Bayonetta amiibo.
Oh yeah, we still don't have that amiibo. Yeah, I could totally see them announcing the release date of the Cloud/Corrin/Bayo amiibo tomorrow at 9 am PST on Twitter (that's when they seem to do their Twitter press announcements).
Hoo boy you should see the NX subreddit right now. They're taking the Bayonetta tease as confirmation that the reveal is tomorrow.
That subreddit is ridiculous. They were flipping out about the Kevin Pereira tweets, even though it made absolutely no sense. Then when it didn't happen, people got super angry at Pereira.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
While a surprise stealth reveal would be dumb and unconventional to say the least, there still is the 127th Anniversary of Nintendo this friday!
Ain't that a good day to do something big..?
