@DefHalan I have inferred that the NX will be a fresh new start for the company. Sure it has been quiet (although I would argue your point that they haven't made quality titles) but I reckon the NX announcement will be an eye opener. It has to be, because this silly tech trap Sony and Microsoft are constructing between them is self destructive and as usual, a generation will come along that doesn't know any different and lap it up.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK It will be difficult for people to view the NX as a fresh start, especially with Nintendo's long history. The NX has the potential to blow us away but there is no evidence to say it will... there is no evidence of what the NX is. We have rumors but those rumors do not sound like a fresh start or an eye opener.
I agree Nintendo has made quality titles but for 2016 and 2015 what buzz worthy titles have we had? These have been slow years for Nintendo and hopefully the NX can create enough buzz to wipe out the last two years.

@DefHalan I think you're placing too much importance on the last two years. I don't think it'll ultimately make that much of a difference in the long run. Just don't horribly botch the reveal and they'll be fine.
@IceClimbers how can we ignore the last two years when it comes to the NX? Similarly to the Wii to Wii U transition, the lack of content for the end of the system will hurt the next system. There were other problems with the Wii U, but the Wii drought at the end of the system (except for a Zelda title) hurt the launch window. Nintendo had to start fresh with the Wii U and failed, and now we sit here with the NX. I don't think we can look further back to see how this generation will play out, as the industry has changed a lot, but just looking at current generation and previous generation, the situation has only worsened. I wish Nintendo good luck with their next system but among people I know that have released games on Wii U, confidence is not high... it doesn't help that we know nothing about the NX.

@skywake I think Nintendo has dropped the ball in showing they can continue to produce quality content on their machines. With the Xbox and Sony brands, there wasn't a question of quality content, their previous systems continued to release games and sell well until their successors were released. Then we look at Nintendo and we have had very little to nothing for a long time. Wven on the 3DS side things have seemed to slow down. It is difficult to stay positive when we have been given very little to be excited about. Sure there is Pokemon, but not much else for this holiday season. There are other titles but there isn't much buzz surrounding them. Look at the other systems and they have lots of titles with buzz surrounding them.
You beat me to it.
So let me get this straight. The "many terrible decisions" Nintendo has made lately is really just one decision. That decision being the movement of development away from the Wii U and 3DS. They've really slowed down since what, late 2014? Early 2015? You have to wonder what all of those teams of well paid developers have been doing for a couple of years. Such a horrible decision not having them develop for the Wii U and 3DS.
Of course there is this thing called the NX coming out. Really, despite the doom-theories here the Wii U wasn't killed by the slow last two years of the Wii. It was killed by the slow first year of the Wii U. The 3DS had similar problems. So I think it's clear Nintendo doesn't want a repeat of that. This so-called series of terrible decisions shifting resources over to the NX? I'd argue it's the best decision Nintendo has made in the last few years.
@MarcelRguez If we assume the NX is a portable, then I don't have an idea how it will go. The portable market has been theorized to be shrinking, but Pokemon is super popular right now. The 3Ds has been selling well but will that continue? Will there be a Vita 2 to compete against? I think Nintendo, and the market, is at its strongest when it has competition. I don't see how Just Dance would work on a portable, but I think Just Dance is on Smart Phones, so I don't really understand that stuff lol. I don't think a NX handheld would do as well, especially missing out on the launch of a new Pokemon generation, but how much did the 3DS suffer from missing out on Black & White 2. (the sequel to the worst generation but still a Pokemon game)
If we assume this Eurogamer Rumor is the real thing, then I have no idea where its place in the market is. Most people that buy these systems don't want a machine that half does two jobs, that is what my mobile device is for. I want a machine dedicated to a job and does that job well.

@skywake Not sure if I should be replying to that since I didn't say Nintendo has made a series of terrible decisions, but the person that did agreed with my post which was quoted and the main source for your reply...
So the Wii had a slow last two years. The Wii U has always been slow. The 3DS had a slow first year. Have their development teams always been working on NX games instead of the systems they brought to market? I can't say I trust Nintendo to do this generation right. They kinda have lost my trust with the Wii U. (me needing to cut back on my purchases doesn't help them lol) I went into the Wii U head first, I trusted Nintendo to treat the system right. I used the same excuse, what do you think all their developers have been doing during the slow time of the Wii... turns out it takes a lot more effort than Nintendo expected to make games on Wii U and 3DS. So much effort that they have almost given up completely on Wii U, and 3DS doesn't have the best support. This doesn't build my confidence for the NX. "Oh, but they merged their handheld and home developers to increase productivity." But we are getting a system up to par to the Wii U (in order for it to support Zelda) so even with the added boost from their Handheld teams, am I supposed to expect twice the support of the Wii U? I doubt it would create that much extra support. Is that good enough? Might be, but I need to see them do it first. The NX is the first Nintendo console that I am choosing to wait on purchasing. Most likely I will break down and want it when the next Pokemon game releases on it, but I am still choosing to wait on the NX because I can't trust Nintendo to support the system as much as I expect them to, not after they failed to do that with the Wii U. I hope this was clear enough to understand, I have been distracted as of recently and have a lot going on. Sometimes just rambling like this helps lol

@DefHalan
There are a lot of things different about this transition compared to the last. But instead of obsessing about that I'll make this simple counter argument to one of your points. What makes you think the Wii U had poor support from Nintendo throughout its entire cycle? What metric are you basing that on? Because I don't see it. I see a slow first year which is likely because they underestimated the difficulties of HD development. As every dev did. Then I see a slow last couple of years as they switch over to NX.
That period in the middle there? Late 2013 to mid 2015? The Wii U got a lot of support from Nintendo. We got Mario Kart, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Smash Bros, Splatoon, 3D World, Mario Maker, Tropical Freeze, Yoshi, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, Xenoblade. What had all the developers being doing during the last couple of years of the Wii? Making those games.
Your theory here relies on an assumption that the NX sells as poorly as the Wii U did. That's nothing we can predict now. It has nothing to do with how much effort they're shifting over to the NX. This notion that the Wii U failed because they were developing for it is absurd. Frankly, I'd argue the Wii U would have done a lot better if they had shifted games like Skyward Sword over. They should have done more, not less.

@skywake I agree they should have done more, and that is why I am disappointed. Hey had two good years surrounded by 4 bad years. The lack of 3rd Party software hurt Nintendo and they were unable to support the systems enough on their own. (Obviously this is based off my own judgments) People continue to enjoy Microsoft and Sony products because there is constant support of software. It becomes difficult for Nintendo to keep hype going when they don't have new software to announce or release for months. The Wii U needed more, and the NX needs more than the Wii U had.

Those weren't things Nintendo decided to do though. They didn't decide to not have third party support. Third party support vanished when the sales didn't come through. They didn't decide to have games delayed early on. They hit a brick wall with the transition to HD. Neither of these things are things that Nintendo wanted.
The only decision they made that impacted the amount of content was the one at the end. When they decided that their energy would be better spent moving to NX than sinking more money into Wii U. A decision that was probably made towards the end of 2014. One that we only really started to see towards the end of 2015. And for Nintendo in the long run? I think that was a wise move.

@skywake I am not saying Nintendo wanted to do those things, but I can't believe Nintendo is able to support a new system better than their current one. It might have been the right financial call, but it didn't help their consumer base gain confidence in Nintendo's ability to support a system. I am not arguing if Nintendo could have done better, I am saying because of what happened this generation, some people are not confident in Nintendo products anymore.
