I think directs was a product of Iwata. I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped doing them.

@Therad I still think they'll happen though maybe under a different name. I especially think that the NX reveal will be nothing more than just a Direct (no press conference, no spaceworld type event, etc.).

I've heard that the real name of the NX is GO. It would be funny if that is its final name and we knew but didn't know all this time. What would "GO" stand for? Gaming Online?

@Grumblevolcano I just watched it and I get what you mean, it does seem like it was originally planned to be part of a Direct. But with so little coming out for either 3DS or Wii U, I can see them deciding to just produce this as a short on its own and release it this way.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Oh God I so hope it's not GO. That is just a terrible name.

It's clear that they were going to continue. It's just a news broadcast specifically for Nintendo news. No different to the 6pm news except more interesting. It might have been Iwata's idea for Nintendo specific ones, they were eventually going to do them anyway.

Also, the draught is perfectly natural for Nintendo. This always happens after E3. September is just around the corner

@FragRed I could see it though. They've already had the Pokemon GO brand awareness and it's a short catchy name like Wii was. Maybe the GO stands for Gaming Omniverse, a gaming universe that is spatiotemporally four-dimensional. They've already done the 3D so why not 4D? Or maybe the O represents the unit as a whole. Again, I've heard the controller is U shaped so stick them together with the screen in the middle and you've an elongated O. Even shorter if they overlap. Just a bit of rambling, probably isn't true. But you never know. GO wouldn't be my first choice but neither was Wii and definitely not Wii U.

Nintendo Titanic.

@MarcelRguez To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if the way Nintendo handle their communications, that they actually manage to release the damn thing before they reveal it.

@MarcelRguez Announcing the NX reveal date would be talking about NX so it could be something like NX reveal date to be in 2017 but that date announced at the Game Awards.

The only sources that back that up are EuroGamer's leak (which shouldn't be taken as fact for obvious reasons)

Why shouldn't it be taken "a fact"? At the very least it should be trusted somewhat. Thus far it's the only rumour that seems to have any credibility. At this point I don't really trust any of the rumours aside from the original Eurogamer leak.

@MarcelRguez
If that's what you're waiting for expect to know nothing at all until it appears on a live stream. And expect to know when the livestream is actually happening at most a week before. Possibly a day before. Or less depending on timezones and so on.

At this point the Eurogamer rumour is all we have. They say September. So September is as good a guess as any at this point. So including this week there are five weeks for it to happen. I guess we'll revisit this discussion in five weeks then. Possibly less.

The only sources that back that up are EuroGamer's leak (which shouldn't be taken as fact for obvious reasons) and those declarations of Nintendo Canada's general manager about talking more about the system "this fall" (spoilers: he said nothing of the sort)

I hope Nintendo talks about it come September, but don't be surprised if the wait for the NX drags on to December. All we have from Nintendo is that they are planning to talk more about the system this year, and that's it.

EDIT: In case you don't know what I'm talking about, Nintendo of Canada's general manager went on record with La Presse, a canadian outlet, in French. Here's the quote about the NX:
On se reparlera de la NX d'ici la fin de l'année. À ce moment, ce sera 100 % NX. Là, c'est 100 % Zelda.

Which translates to:
We'll talk about the NX at some point from here to the end of the year. When the time comes, it will be 100% NX. There (at E3), it will be 100% Zelda

For whatever reason, every English outlet I've consulted ran the story as "Nintendo of Canada GM Says NX News Coming This Fall", increasing the snowball of expectations that the EuroGamer rumor has created.

To be fair, fall could be anywhere between the beginning of september to the end of november. And it seems highly unlikely they would reveal it during the holiday rush. Combined it becomes "fall".

According to anonymous sources that have contacted Let’s Play Video Games following the previous report, we have learned that not only does the current NX development hardware feature a split D-Pad, unlike the solid pads Nintendo typically uses, but that the system also features a share button similar to that on the PS4.

The share button, denoted by a small icon of a camera, will apparently allow the upload of still images and video directly to Miiverse, Twitter, Facebook or YouTube. It will also be possible to save images or video to external memory devices for easier transfer to PC.

While the reasoning behind switching to a split D-Pad is currently unclear, the above header image was drawn by a source familiar with the current NX development kit and matches a description of the dev kit layout given by a second source who has provided reliable leaks regarding Nintendo products in the past.
