Well Nintendo has outright said it's being revealed this year many times so I guess it's a wait and see but there's no room for getting it out there without some other big announcement from other companies taking away some of that spotlight so it'll be interesting to see how they do it.

I am of the mind that Nintendo is fighting a losing battle trying to get smartphone gamers to buy their consoles. It's a very silly notion on their part. But oh well. The more they fail, the more likely they are to reevaluate their goals. Which sucks, but you gotta fail sometimes before you can succeed.

@Operative Nintendo have to believe games sells systems. It's their business model. I would like to hope it still holds true today.

What makes you think that they aren't doing this already? Just because you don't like their conclusions doesn't mean they haven't read the market well. Just a quick reality check here. The Wii U didn't do particularly well, the Gamecube didn't do well either. And sure the Wii did well but it didn't do as well as the DS did. Particularly in Japan.

So maybe a device that's a portable first is what they need to release. And sure it's probably not exactly what the US wants or Western Developers in general. But Japan? This thing could easily beat the PS4 in Japan. Which can only be a good thing for support from Japanese developers. So even if it is a flop here in the west? At least we'll get some great software on the thing.

@skywake if it flops outside of Japan, then we are unlikely to get localizations for most games. Japanese developers might support the NX in Japan but outside of Japan it might be worst than Wii U droughts.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@DefHalan
"Flops" was too strong a word for what was in my head. And obviously you're not a mind reader so fair point. I was thinking more along the lines of it having close to half of global sales in Japan. With it breaking sales records in Japan or at least flirting with them. But average sales elsewhere.

There's a very good chance it'll "fail" in the west but do enough in Japan to keep it going. And if a majority of the user base is in Japan? To the point where it's bigger than the PS4 in Japan (also very possible). It'll get support from Japanese developers. I think it's far more likely to appeal to that market than mobile gamers.

since sony's pre tgs conference is on sept. 13th nx reveal that week is unlikely.

@skywake Japan might be enough to keep it going, but if all its support is in Japan, from both customers and developers, then it is unlikely to survive outside of Japan. If things are really that bad outside of Japan, then support outside of Japan would probably look kinda like Vita, which I think every Vita owner agrees support for the system is terrible (there might be good games on the Vita but the droughts and lack of major software really hurt it)

Or it will be on September 14th, to take away all the hype from Sony's announcements lol

@Grumblevolcano Depends on what the NX is. If the NX make the Neo and Scorpio look like child's toys, then Nintendo would dominate the news circles lol

@Grumblevolcano We don't know anything. We have some rumors, but we don't know anything for certain yet.

@DefHalan do you actually think that or is it just because its not what you want personally?

@WebHead I am not sure what part you are talking about. I am just not sold on the Eurogamer rumor as a product. I would rather see Nintendo stay in the Home Console race but we will have to see.

@DefHalan well can you give nintendo an objectively good, financially viable reason to do so?

Eurogamer didn't say anything at all; it was just a question posed on Twitter; Tom Phillips was asked ''You expecting a Nintendo direct or a press conference like Sony?'' He answered ''Direct for fans, some kind of event for press at the same time.''

It's just his guess, a prediction, nothing more.

@WebHead What if the Wii U/3DS situation was reversed? If their next handheld fails, wouldn't it be smart to have another product on the market that may not fail? Was the original Xbox profitable for Microsoft? I heard it wasn't but since Microsoft was such a big company, those loses didn't hurt them. If Nintendo was in a situation where they could have another Wii U failure, not hurt them as much because of other products on the Market (like the 3DS) then that would be better.
