@IceClimbers@FragRed Well we don't know when Scorpio launches next year though. But assuming both PS4 Neo and PS4 Slim launch this year, maybe AMD didn't consider 1 of the slim models (XB1S, PS4 Slim) to be a win?
If the PS4 Slim releases too close to the Neo its sales may suffer for example.
@Grumblevolcano Scorpio is one of the design wins; that's two left, and the NEO is going to be another one. I mean, a slim model isn't really a new design win. Depends on how AMD counts their design wins I guess.. But that would mean they did count one of the slim models as a new design win, but forgot about the other one? Bit strange..
@Octane Well the XB1S isn't just a slim model, there are features that you can't do on the original XB1 like 4K Video and some games perform slightly better on XB1S. Maybe the PS4 Slim is just literally a smaller PS4 but we'll likely find out on September 7th.
I wonder, could they end up undercutting Microsoft and launch this thing at $249.99? If so, they have this holiday season on lock even more than they already did.
This would also put a strain on what price Nintendo could launch the NX at - if the thing is primarily a handheld, then it will be viewed as too expensive if its the same price as a current console at $249. $199 becomes the limit I think.
@Octane Yeah I don't think a company like AMD would somehow forget about one of their design wins, especially as it's all good news to report to their shareholders.

@IceClimbers The Nintendo NX will already be too expensive I feel. The original Xbox One is about £200 on Amazon here in the UK, which is dangerously close to what the NX will likely launch at, and this is assuming Microsoft doesn't cut the price again.

The XBOne S, Scorpio and Neo are all actual design changes. A PS4 slim could easily be just a more power efficient version of the same thing. If so it could have easily slipped under the radar. Because they actually do that from time to time even if they don't have a new design.

Way to early to start burying the thing already. We don't even really know what the NX will look like at launch let alone the price. And there are other factors at play here. For a start we haven't seen anything run on it yet. We don't know how big the screen is or how easy it will dock. We don't know whether it'll feel like a 3DS successor or a XBOne/PS4 competitor. Or both. Or neither.
There's also the fact that we don't know what software this thing will launch with. As it is? It has one game, maybe two. Neither of which we're quite sure will be there at launch. We're assuming it'll be the repeat of the Wii U and 3DS for first and third party content but it might not be. We don't know.
It's also worth noting that the New 3DS XL in the UK sells for £170. So I don't think there's any way you're going to be happy with the price if you're worried about it being "dangerously close" to £200. And last I checked the 3DS wasn't a failed product.
I think we shouldn't look to hard at potential customers for AMD. Are we sure all those wins are different? Some of them might have been reported twice or not reported at all. Because I have only seen other sources than AMD about them, nothing from AMD themselves. Info might have been distorted along the way, or over-analysed.
And are we sure those contracts are consoles? Integrated SoC are used everywhere these days. Everywhere from cars to electronic billboards to dishwashers. If it has a display and has a hard time fitting a normal computer, it probably has a SoC in it.
Also, who says Scorpio is AMD? It could just as well be Nvidia.
@GrailUK I find it hard to believe thay we're getting two new PlayStations this year, and VR too. I don't believe dat Vita 2.0 rumour at all. Besides, it was based on nothing; just a random patent Sony filed. It was definitely a big stretch to call that evidence for another Sony portable.
The vita 2.0 rumour was becuse a fcc filing. If they use a new wifi-controller in NEO (very plausable) they need to file a new request to FCC to be able to sell it in US.
Another thing; If Nintendo really is using Tegra, it might not be a custom chip. I think Nvidia rather sells non-custom chips, it would give them less need for maintenance work = cheaper production.
Which has benefits as well as drawbacks. The biggest benefit should be price. The biggest drawback is that they can't really remove stuff that isn't used and they need external chips if they need more connectivity.
@Grumblevolcano i mean they cancelled the new shield tablet and no phone is likely to use this chipset. and they wouldnt put gaming in there if there wasnt a product on the way for it. so unless sony is making a new portable NX must be using this.
With the recent PS4 slim leak, I'd say it's looking more likely NX is a hybrid system. I can't see an official reveal till after Christmas with all the recent Sony & Microsoft activity.
