If it wasn't for Splatoon on Wii U, all shooters on Switch would've likely been dual stick controls only as shown by the Dualshock 4 having the technology for gyro controls but not really being used.
I am so glad for that fact too. Gyro aiming in shooters is easily the best thing that's happened to shooters since twin sticks became a thing IMO. I'm hoping it'll start bleeding over into the PS4 scene soon, or at least the PS5 scene.
PS4 gamers will never accept gyro aiming. Neither will Xbox gamers but that's cause they don't even have the option.
They're too set in their perceived superiority of how a "proper game should be played". Not flexible or adaptable to change. VR isnt doing us any favors either though. Those horrid Move controllers are likely turning people away from motion for good. Heck, even Nintendo gamers took a long time to finally come around. Wii helped soften minds, but it took lots of word of mouth from Splatoon, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Pikmin 3, Metroid Prime 3, etc to get a small niche to open up to it.
But Switch is what really convinced people. Zelda, Splatoon 2, ARMS, Resident Evil Revelations, RE Revelations 2, DOOM, Skyrim, LA Noire, and now Okami HD and Wolf 2 and Mario Tennis Aces...
It took an onslaught of games having motion, and having it done right, for it to really start catching on. I think a big problem in Wii and Wii U era, aside from inadequate motion controllers, was for every game that used them right, you'd find a game doing it wrong. We needed like 1-2 solid years of game after game after game nailing it to really show people it's viability and allow a large enough group to experience them.
But even now it's still a more niche preference found only within the Switch gamer fanbase. It's growing though, which is good. More and more people are realizing how superior it is to straight analog. Unfortunately it takes finding the right sensitivity for you and alot of people try it for 5 min on the wrong sensitivity and write it off. Oh ya I tried it and didn't like it. I mean, if that's how people first approached using the right analog we'd all be using shoulder buttons to turn the camera today.

Ew, shoulder buttons for camera control. I'm playing Xenogears on the PS1 which is a really old game (like 20 years old), and that type of camera control is just so awful.
But yeah, gyro aiming is really good. Heck, some people use it with a Steam controller for PC gaming.

@JaxonH Lucky for us, despite how vocal certain people are, there's a huge amount of crossover between the Nintendo and Sony fanbases. While I don't doubt that those on certain websites will take forever to accept it, there's a good chunk of people who like gyro aiming already that have PS4s.
I just got a Switch with Mario Odyssey and have been loving it. I think my favorite part about the system (besides the whole console/handheld thing) is the HD rumble. I was so sure it was a dumb marketing thing, like Blast Processing, but it truly is amazing, It’s going to be hard going back to “SD rumble”.

@Tsurii I hear about the maze dungeon at the end of Disc 1. I have no time to just wander about with no direction, so I just pulled up maps of every dungeon in Xenogears so far.

@Octane Most if not all PSVR games have an option for motion controls, but for regular PlayStation 4 the only game I can think of is Unravel, which is also on Xbox.
@Tsurii Platforming was pretty good in XCX (even out of Skells) and XC2, though in XC1 it was pretty clunky but wasn't really needed. But in XG, platforming is pretty bad due to lack of analog lol.

@Octane I’m sorry, the game I was thinking of was Tearaway: Unfolded. Unravel doesn’t have motion controls, my bad. I had 100% forgot about the motion controls in Infamous, I thought those were actually kind of fun, but it was only for those spray paint sections so it seemed more like a gimmick than anything.
I was bored today, so I decided to play a Grand Prix of MK8D with sideways Joy-Cons.
And wow, with the strap on, it's actually not that bad. Still managed 1st place despite getting bad luck with blue shells. I think I'm more of a believer in the sideways Joy-Con now. If SNES Virtual Console ever becomes a thing, I think I can play Super Metroid with this, though I'd prefer two Joy-Cons or Pro Controller always.

@Octane
I can't really recall any that truly, truly used it aside from Flower. Few games had motion like Infamous Second Son but, those were all insignificant inclusions. Definitely no shooters.
PSVR uses it but, it feels pretty archaic in a game like Skyrim or DOOM. Lack of 2nd analog, micro sized buttons in a poor layout and no dual shoulder buttons and bulky, rubber ball tipped controllers... What sucks is that I just got an Occulus Rift from my bro for Christmas, and those VR controllers are insanely good. There is the small issue of two face buttons being on the left controller and two face buttons being on the right controller, which unlike the Joycon present an issue when you need to remove your thumb from the left analog to hit a button... but aside from that I would say they are the coolest controllers I've ever used, Joycon being my fave though simply because all 4 face buttons are on one side of the controller, plus the Dpad buttons.
Anyways I'm getting off topic. What I was trying to get at was that a proper controller would have done wonders to convince the fanbase of the merits of motion. It's a real shame because that one was the one real potential opportunity to sell motion to that fanbase. Then again, there are probably far more PS4 gamers who bought a Switch than PS4 gamers who bought PSVR. So perhaps I'm overstating its potential influence.
I think there's a possibility though, that as motion continues to catch on and cascade in popularity within the Switch fanbase, to the point every game that has the potential to use it, uses it... I think the market for motion Switch forges could potentiall catch on for other consoles. Maybe. But it would have to first become overwhelmingly popular on Switch with every single 3rd party dev including them (which is quickly becoming the reality). Only then do I think those developers would then translate the optional controls onto PS4 releases.
What makes it really difficult though is the fact Xbox controllers do not have gyro. That's a huge stone wall that will have to be torn down. If both PS and Xbox had motion, they could integrate it at a multi platform level. But I think it will be exponentially more difficult to do so only on one of the two 3rd party platforms.

Crazy Justice (the Fortnite/PUBG like battle royale game for Switch) will also have motion controls
And here's Wolfenstein 2 in handheld with motion controls
Square Enix regarding DQXI Switch delay
“It’s true that the Nintendo Switch version is under development at this moment in time. Specifically with regards to the development, this game was developed on the Unreal Engine, but the version for Unreal Engine needs to be updated, I suppose, in order to support Switch. In that sense, the development is still expected to take a very long time. It’s still a long ways out.”
"Of course, we did consider releasing PS4 and a Switch version around the same time if that was even a possibility, but right now the outlook for the Switch version is still unclear at this moment in time. The Japan team, they wanted to release Dragon Quest a XI and bring it overseas as soon as possible for our fans overseas, which is why they proceeded with the PS4 [and] Steam version[s] this time.”
Hey, it's cool. The game is coming, and it's coming west, and it's going to be the legit console version... It's fine. I've got nothin but time. Probably a 2019 release- one year after the other versions. Because there's no possible way they would have ever considered releasing at the same time if it was going to be 2-3 years past. My guess is holiday 2019. Perfect timing. That fall will likely be Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3 and DQXI on Switch. That'll work.

So South Park releases 2 weeks from Tuesday. That's really close.
@DarthNocturnal
I think they're just demonstrating the motion. I don't think you're actually supposed to play it like that without using the second analog. Naturally you would still make your wide turns with the right analog and use the Gyro for fine-tuning your aim, just like every other game on the system.
