I realize I shouldn't doubt the decision to put games on Switch as a priority at this point, but the reason I cared about this game was exclusively because of the Wii U demo over 2 years ago. I don't feel like it had any real hype except for that.
It's a business but it's a business that operates in bad faith.
Not committing to Switch is - of course - a very risky move on their part. If Switch does continue to sell then it'll be a very big platform within a few years. Even if EA games wouldn't sell as well on Switch as they do on XBox One or PS4 a modest success on Switch could be the difference between selling 10 million copies and 12 or 13 million copies. That's something that would make the margins on a AAA game look much more favourable.
It also leaves a potentially huge market open for a mid-sized competitor to walk in and grow dramatically without competition. For instance Konami could release PES 2019 on Switch, completely clean up and put themselves in a stronger position to compete with EA when bidding for licensing rights next time around.
The other risk factor before EA is that a successful Switch will eventually impact Sony and Microsoft (and even Apple) in various ways. It might affect or delay Sony's plans for a PS5, it might dampen sales of XBox One X, it might attract time & money away from phones and tablets etc.
So there's a chance that Switch becomes such a lucrative prospect that EA ultimately ends up having to release games on Switch whether they like it or not. Of course when they do Nintendo then has every reason to push them to the back of the queue and offer them none of the behind the scenes benefits afforded to the partners who have supported the project from the beginning.

@Caldorosso-E I have honestly no idea. I was so wholly convinced that we'd all get an MH to play, and then it's "just" XX and just Japan that gets it. If you consider what Capcom is bringing out, and what they aren't, and how they were in talks with Nintendo way before, well, let's just say that I don't understand those guys anymore, and they've made a serious plunge on my personal list with all of this.
@Octane True, but the Capcom's support for the Switch is still.... I'd say fairly seriously lacking. I mean it's clear the things doing great, so why not capitalize?
@UmniKnight What else do you want to see from Capcom? Monster Hunter World started development when the Wii U was Nintendo's home console, so it makes sense that game was developed with the PS4 and Xbox One in mind. Ōkami is just cheap re-release for the sake of releasing something. I don't think they're doing anything besides that.
@Snaplocket I think Capcom just fell into the "power is everything" trap and when you fall into that trap it's very hard to escape. Over the past 5 or so years there has been so much focus on fully analyzing specs, games must be 1080p or higher resolution otherwise they're considered bad, etc. that Capcom probably caved in thinking the big money was following that mindset and so they focused on the powerful consoles.
Then we come to this year where the Switch is seeming to be a big success and stock issues being the number 1 cause for Nintendo not reaching their full sales potential making it clear that Capcom made a big mistake. This is where the Capcom excuses we've seen come in meanwhile some 3rd parties like Koei Tecmo and Bethesda strike those excuses down.
@Grumblevolcano "This is where the Capcom excuses we've seen come in meanwhile some 3rd parties like Koei Tecmo and Bethesda strike those excuses down." And may they be the better for it, (though I've heard that KT tends to skimp on development, cut corners so to speak, not something I'm a fan of)
@Octane Well, even if that Okami game for Switch would be nice, there's still Devil May Cry, arguably dead rising and, in my case, Sengoku Basara that would be a good fit for the Switch. Those along with MH, of course.
What I'd like to know, is when a port is poorly made (FE:W corner cutting, Fate/Extella locked to 720P) is that due to hardware limitations, or laziness on the third-party front? That's another scenario, that even if the Switch ends up getting full third-party support, they skimp on the development of games for the system.
@MegaTen But Bandai Namco are still doing well, aren't they? I've got 2 of their Switch games next to me over here
@Snaplocket Well they could've caved in at a point where the remaining 3DS support had been at a position where it made more sense to complete than cancel.
@MegaTen Huh, I must've missed their glory era then. What were they then, compared to what they are now? I primarily come across them from their anime games (Dragonball Xenoverse 2 and One Piece Unlimited World Red lying next to me)
@Octane I watched the video for that. My favorite part is halfway through when the lady randomly farts and apologizes to the audience. I kind of love that they didn't even consider reshooting.
@Octane Wait, that game on it, it's Arena of Valour, isn't it? Still very curious how that'll control. But besides that, I wonder when Nintendo will notice that and probably be less than entertained about it
@Snaplocket@MegaTen Interesting, I've never really went for arcade cabinets myself, a combination of not being aware of them, not seeking them out, and they're nowhere near my village
