What happened to Fire Emblem? It was once a 10/10 masterpiece series, with a couple of games on the SNES right up to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GC) and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii). But after that, it all went downhill, handheld, mobile, and crossover.

I hope FE Warriors is just the tease for the next to a new main game in the series developed for Switch.

What do you mean what happened to it... It's still an amazing series.

In fact I enjoyed Echoes much more than older entries. The QoL additions are hard to give up once you're used to them. Sure, they stretched themselves too thin with Fates, and the narrative and dialog suffered because of it, but that aside FE has never been better. The gameplay has been finely tuned to reach the pinnacle of perfection we saw in Conquest.

The new game on Switch will surely be the next Zelda BotW of the Fire Emblem series... If the gameplay is as good as Fates, and the character dialog/voice acting as good as Echoes, and the story as good as any past game in the series barring the one they stretched too thin on... we're in for a mega treat.

In the meantime, I'm super excited for FE Warriors.

@JaxonH When it comes to FE, there's a bit of a "Old fanbase annoyed and salty about their chars not getting in FE: Warriors and Nintendo + IS not giving much love to the old base, along with hating on the new games for reviving the series with things they seemingly hate, vs the new base that enjoys the new games and it's additions" going on here, though it's probably only vocal minorities being vocal.

But other than that, yes, the franchise is very much doing great, after Awakening hoisted it out of the black hole it was inches from falling into.

I have played Fire Emblem (the one without a subtitle), The Sacred Stones, Dragons, and Heroes since then, and I've Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE borrowed from a friend.
Unfortunately not the two ones you say are great. I think what happened is, I've been only playing/checking up on the not so great ones after I had an amazing start with 2 of the best in the series.

I'm sure if Echoes and Fates were released on Wii U or Switch, I'd have picked them up. 3DS is not my thang.

So with Miiverse shutting down in November, Nintendo could really do with announcing those Smash and Super Mario Maker ports for Switch as those 2 Wii U games are the most affected by the shutdown.

I think whatever comes of Mario Maker next for Switch, it'll be a sequel. But probably in the same way that Splatoon 2 is a sequel. That is to say, very very very similar to the first with some new tools.

I would kill for a Hyrule Warriors port. Not even a sequel, just a port with the 3DS content in HD with co op again.

Sighhh, maybe after FE Warriors gets all its DLC, which can take years

@Operative2-0 I cant see a Mario Maker sequel being anything but very very similar.

The basis is there and all you can really do is add more on top of it.

Oh no. Supermetaldave64 is peddling anxiety again on YouTube. He is being supermetalvague about a non Nintendo announcement (from Sony?) followed by another announcement from Nintendo. It appears folk think a PSP3 / PS4hybrid is going to be announced at their next press conference!

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

How will it effect Mario Maker?
This saddens me deeply...

A PS4 hybrid would be interesting. Would absolutely hate all the "OMG NINTENDO COPYCAT" posts though.

@Octane Well I think he means at the press conference before it (19th Sept). But...surely it wouldn't be the place to announce new hardware.

@GrailUK I'm not sure how this would affect anything to be frank. If they're going to do an improved Switch (so a Sony hybrid with obviously far more power), then either Nintendo has to keep up, or we'll see Sony get total dominance.

It wouldn't shock me. Sony wants to kill any competition, they've straight up said it. They want market control with no other options.

But could they support two systems? Probably not.

@GrailUK Well, after DS vs PSP and 3DS vs Vita, it appears that concept > specs for handhelds.

@Operative2-0 Sony's R&D would be amazing if they managed to develop a new system within a year

@GrailUK I don't think it's real, but it's TGS and Japan is the biggest market for handheld devices, so that part is plausible.

@BLP_Software I shudder to think of a gaming industry where Sony, or indeed any of the big 3, holds a total monopoly. I don't think Nintendo will last against a hybrid stronger than Switch, with easily secured third-party games.

@Octane I really hope it isn't. Nintendo doesn't need this right now, as I've no doubt Sony will be able to sweep up the third-party support that Nintendo can now secure under the hybrid moniker with ease.

The question is: is it less portable than the Switch with even worse battery life?

What other sacrifices have to be made there?

People can knock on the Switch's power all they want, but there's only so much tech you can cram inside a small device while also considering battery power.

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
