Does anyone else scroll through the weekly on-Switch list of new releases and shudder when they see a 2-part article because that means there are more than 50 new games released in just one week?
Who knows what hidden gems or decent games or even horrible lumps of coal sit in that huge mountain of games.
If people have opinions on this/recent week's eshop games or just about the flood of games in general, post them here.
Lately I have been grabbing one random cheap eshop platformer a week. This week it was legends or the eternal flame because it looks beautiful.
I'm also tempted by Vulvehicles out this week because the demo was quite fun.
LISA: the painful caught my eye but it looks a bit surreal-y disturbing.
The Kitty in the Spaceship wins an award for the week of looking just incredibly weird in my quick glance down the list.
I added 5 eshop games temporarily to my wishlist because they looked just interesting enough I want to see or hear some type of review: Doomsday Hunters, spirit hunters: infinite Horde, Sephonie, Super dinoblasters, and Whispike Survivors. Most of the other 50-ish games didn't appeal quite enough to me to click on.
I wish it was easier to find reliable (or literally any) reviews on some games like these.
@FishyS I worked pretty hard on my game "Super Dinoblasters", it's out this week. Costs less than a Starbucks. If you like retro games from the Nes era I think you will enjoy it. It's fairly easy in comparison to a real retro game. The levels have different routes and secrets to make a second or even 3rd play through worth it. But yeah I'd really appreciate it if people could support this release so I can make another game 😅
@Magic_Salmon_Pro omg, I'm always worried on this site that if I give an informal review of an indie game and it is negative it will turn out the developer sees it and gets upset o.o
But honestly, great job at making your game even stand out at all amongst 56 new games in a week. The name and the (no offense) mutant Yoshi in the eShop screenshot are decent eye-drawers.
I am of the firm opinion that for the cheap prices there are tons of games on the eshop that are quite fun and worth it to the right people.
I'll definitely grab your game now since it was on my short list anyways and we are fellow fish. I hope it sells well, though I imagine it is a super hard marketplace for these small games.
Thanks very much it's really appreciated! I hope you enjoy it! And if you want to give an informal review good or bad that's 100% ok with me! I think people are either going to love the save system for nostalgic purposes or they are going to hate it, i guess I will find out 😅
@Magic_Salmon_Pro tbh, I already kinda hate the save system but your in-game note about it is hilarious 😆 And, well, cell phones make it pretty painless so it doesn't really distract from the game.
Edit: ok, the secret passwords are kinda cute. Found a couple so far.
@FishyS yeah I knew the password system would be a divisive feature. But me and my brother used to have a little book filled with all our Nes game passwords, and I wanted to try and capture that nostalgic feeling for others who had a similar childhood experience. The silly thing is that a normal save system would have been less than 50 lines of code and straightforward, the password generator read/write script is over 1,000 lines 😐
@Magic_Salmon_Pro The hilarious in-game text about passwords and the secret passwords make it kind of worth it tbh. I suspect most people will just snap a photo with their phone like I did, so I don't know about reclaiming past nostalgia, but it's not hard. I do wish the passwords were a bit shorter though
@FishyS yeah during play testing I wish I'd made the passwords 5 characters long instead of 10 but I couldn't bring myself to rewrite the whole system. After 18 months of day job + evenings and weekends doing game dev my brain was mush 🫠
@FishyS I’m horrendous. I use deku deals. Not only have I made my wishlist but I have even added a rationale for why each game is on there. I have a master wishlist and a defo list too.
@Ironcore neat. I can't see your comments (I assume those are only see-able by you) , but there are a couple games I've never heard of on your defo page I may have to check out.
I'm interested in Adore - the action monster-collection game everyone seems to be talking about and Mistworld, a retro RPG with cute Minecraft-ish art. Tiny Thor looks like a creative platformer. Three more games for my wishlist.
Seems like lots of point-and-click games this week. Weirdest eshop name of the week goes to slime girl smoothies.
48 new eShop games this week. Anyone know of any hidden gems?
I saw an interesting YouTube video discussing how 5 eShop publishers which might actually all be the same (2 had the exact same address in Moldova and there were some other connections) are actively selling scam games as opposed to more typical legitimate-but-sometimes-low-quality eShop games. Games with fake screen shots, actively false descriptions etc. And apparently they fill their titles with common search terms and constantly go on 90% sales to show up high in the eShop listings. The Last of Us clone in the news recently was apparently just one of many from these companies.
Midnight Works, Insta Marketing and Games, vggames, Dezvolt games, gogame console publisher were the ones discussed in the video. It's just a random YouTuber, so I don't know if the info is all correct, but Dezvolt has a couple new games this week including the impressively clickbaity sounding one titled Wash Simulator - Clean Garage, House, Cars Business Tycoons.
