Ok, I'll start by saying I should of looked more into it but I just assumed the brand new console that is still uncommon to find in store , would have accessibility to older games. This is also assuming that they would have more the ln a handful of games 3 months after release. So why their dragging their feet on virtual console is beyond me (specially since I can download an emulator for free!!!!). My question is does anyone have any concrete info on when or if vc is coming to the switch. I'm very close to just returning the switch and getting a wii U . It's very disappointing how Nintendo holds their older games hostage. I have a out 10 days to make decision on whether I return or not.... any info is appreciated. ...

No info on VC, although once the paid online service rolls around in 2018, you'll have access to a library of classic games with some form of multiplayer for as long as you're still subscribed.

I really don't know what's going on with the VC, though. If they don't say anything by the end of the year, I think it'll be safe to say it's not coming.

Yeah thanks for info. Boxing it up now and returning.... not worth the money .... the wii u is better then the switch? I don't get it

Never mind.

@Burghslim Don't worry about it.

I wouldn't say the Wii U is better than the Switch, but of course it comes down to an individuals perspective. I just think retro games are so easily accessible and have been for such a long time, that they're not really much of a draw, at least for me. I buy systems to play new games, not old ones.

And besides, once the online service comes, I'll be able to play retro games with multiplayer modes anyway, with or without the Virtual Console.

So easily accessible expect on a brand new console lol.. but I get your point. I should of just waited another 6 months before I bought it.

It's strange that your standard for what is a better console is if it plays old games that can already be played on other systems. Whatever.

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

@the_shpydar standard? How about accessibility? I mean it's 3 months after launch. For all the hype surrounding this console. You'd figure they would have more games then they do. Hence why it's even more strange as why they don't have vc up and running on switch... but hey maybe I'm the weird one for expecting more out of a huge company. If you didn't buy the game for Zelda your options for games are pretty bare.

@Burghslim I feel like you are new to gaming but consoles historically have slow year 1 with games

Games take a long time to make so it's usually year 3 when games show their full potential for that console

New to gaming???. Not even close. No its doesn't take 3 years to get good games.... and I feel they just invested all into Zelda and didn't bother to invest in any other game.. I just didn't think it would only be for children. This console is catered to kids. Just bad planning on Nintendo as usual. I was warned by everyone with a Nintendo product as to how terrible Nintendo is these days. I just expected more. I mean they charge the same as other consoles, and aren't even close to Xbox or ps4. I could even argue that the wii U is better right now. You literally can't don't anything with this console.

@Burghslim It doesn't take 3 years to get good games, but that's the point when the console is at its prime. It took a pretty long time for the PS4 to be worth buying. Go take a look at its launch lineup.

And it isn't catered to kids any more than any other Nintendo console. I would argue that it's catered to kids much less than the Wii and Wii U, considering the game we're getting for it have been decidedly more hardcore than most of the games on those other two consoles, not to mention the fact that they're clearly marketing it to adults in their advertisements.

Either way, getting a 300 USD console just to play old games on is kind of a waste of money.

@Burghslim Nintendo is made up of a number of individual first-party studios - while one team was working on Breath of the Wild, another was working on Splatoon 2, another was working on ARMS, another has been working on Metroid Prime 4, another (Retro) is working on an as-yet-unnamed project...to say that they "just invested all into Zelda and didn't bother to invest in any other game" is wholly inaccurate. Nintendo provide more (and better) first-party content than Microsoft and Sony put together...

@Burghslim I agree with you. Wii U, right now, is better than the Switch. Wii U has Virtual Console, an Internet Browser, Miiverse, and YouTube. People are going to talk crap about how an internet browser is really not a necessity but for someone like me with no PC or tablet at home, I use the Wii U's internet browser quite extensively. I also still use Miiverse daily (on 3DS and Wii U, mind you) and I also use Youtube app alot on Wii U.

And the Switch has too many Wii U ports for me to invest money into it at the moment.

With that being said, I still want a Switch eventually and I do check store shelves quite often for it.

ValhallaOutcast

@bezerker99 only difference is you didn't buy a Switch because of your reasons listed

The argument about VC because you can download emulators on a PC is invalid. Or are you talking about that Nintendo Officially Licensed emulator?

@KirbyTheVampire it's the point of offering it.... with the lack of games it already has , wouldn't it of been smart to release some retro games with it? Not asking to move mountains.
