Is there a way to save myself from purchasing titles 2X. I am going to buy my son a switch for his BDAY and am looking ahead. I would like for him to have access to games and content we have already purchased.
We love how OTHER consoles especially every XBOX ever launched handles DRM. A purchased is owned in two ways. First the console that made the purchase owns it for every user logged into that console. Second the individual who purchased it owns it to play on any XBOX anywhere. I make all the purchases on my sons XBOX where he and his friends can play the title and I then float between a few other XBOX's with my account. Apple and PS also do a great job with DRM and families, look forward to hearing some feedback from the community.
I don't think there is a way to share downloaded content on the switch. I would recommend to at least buy the games physical (cartridges) to save most of the expenses
Unfortunately we do not buy physical media and at times we could be playing the game at the same time ex Splatoon 2. I have only bought ONE non digital title in last 4 years and it was only because they wouldn't release it digitally. (Skylanders)
What if he used my account and downloaded the games, would it prevent us from both playing at the same time again Ex. Splatoon2.
I have been asking the likes of Sony, Nintendo and MS for years to pilot a program that would let users MAIL them their physical media and in return they would send you a code to download the game. If the end game is to reduce the sale of used media ultimately putting more money into the developers pocket and driving down the cost of a future titles this is a solution.
Well to be honest physical would not really solve all their problems unless they bought two copies (one for their son and one for them). Cartridges can only be used by one person at a time, after all.
Which in the end is the same problem with digital.
Unfortunately Nintendo isn't where you want to be if you're looking for cross-console play under a single account. I believe to do so you need to deactivate the first switch, which will then be unable to access the games. If I remember right. I suggest physical as well.
I don't know, but this person does mention that the games are available for every user in the console where the purchase was made, and that they buy their games on their kid's console first.
So it's likely that they buy the games on their kid's console so the son can play them in his own profile, and then redownload the games on their personal console to be able to play them themselves with their account.

Same game, different accounts.
That is correct, not just my son but both children and their friends can play the game on the console the purchase was made. I then float between 2 other consoles with my own account to play the same game even w/ them at times.
This isn't as much multiplatform as it is understanding how the DRM works. The deactivate the title is interesting I will explore more shortly.
I guess I will figure this out tonight but on the Switch if I bought X game under my account. If I switch users will that game work at all for the other user?
