@Apportal@Dezzy Also, regarding the idea of putting Mario in the title and making Rosalina the main character, that's been done before. See: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.
Yeah and I would argue that it was dumb branding with Yoshi's Island too. I never even played it back on the SNES because I was confused by what it was. Its visuals were so different and its gameplay quite different, so it didn't seem like a sequel to SMW at all. Although the fact that baby mario is there I guess means you could still call it a mario game, technically.
@Dezzy It would make more sense with Rosalina than it did with Yoshi. In this case it's not as if you're making a completely foreign type of game, it's the same gameplay style as the first two games in the series, just without Mario and some of the Mario elements.
I’m suspicious of her now. Both her and Bowser are after the same thing, plus she is a “Cosmic Witch” with her own followers. That sounds a bit cultish to me, especially as she throws her followers into a black hole so they can be “reborn”.

Don’t drink her Kool Aid!
Now that you mention it - you first meet Rosalina in a dark, abandoned, and mysterious "otherworldly" place. And she tasks you with collecting things to restore her power... In any other developers hands she's absolutely setting up a stinger of a plot twist where it turns out she's the true villain.
Maybe a Rosalina spin off could be more like Bioshock, Resident Evil or Dead Space?
Let's face it - we don't know who put her mother under that tree in the first place...
Speaking of plot twists, when I was playing Odyssey I was convinced that Cappy, this hat character who controls people by sitting on their head and is currently sitting on Mario's head was going to have a plot twist about how he's actually been controlling Mario the entire time but it never happened.

I don't think they're going to go that route, Nintendo is tries to be family friendly and generally doesn't want kids questioning whether their protagonists are really good or evil. Again, I think the storyline would be something along the lines of "some new intergalactic villain stole the Power Stars/captured the Lumas, go stop them", maybe with some cute backstory tidbits thrown in through the Storybook. I don't think this would be the right game for a deep and mature storyline like that.
@Bolt_Strike It's a spin off so I can see them embracing non-Mario elements into the game. I could see them possibly having an Event Horizon space horror style storyline with Rosalina being like Sam Neil where she has no eyes and has gone evil.
@Bolt_Strike I wouldn't be interested if it was another "Bowser kidnapped something go save her!". We've already got enough of that crap with the Mario series. It'd have to be something new, and as jump and StuTwo have mentioned, a plot twist like that would be crazy.

Yeah. The Mario Games never have massive storylines do they?
Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

So then why did they release Donkey Kong Jr.? I agree with that, I don’t think they’ll make Rosalina a villain. I just think she is a villain and doesn’t deserve her own spinoff. So far, the only Mario spinoff about a character that deserved a spinoff was the Yoshi series.

I have an idea... they make another Super Mario RPG that’s sort of based on Super Mario Galaxy. Like, Super Mario Galaxy RPG or something. That could have some plot twists, since it would have an actual story. Or, another Mario & Luigi game that’s a crossover with Galaxy, like Paper Jam was. Just another RPG of some sort.

@BabyYoshi12 I disagree with that. Mario doesn't really deserve his own spin offs at times like Dr Mario as it makes no sense at all, why would a plumber also be a doctor! Whilst the personalities of Wario and Luigi translated into their own games. Like Luigi not being as cheerful as his brother works better in Luigi's Mansion than Mario who would be jumping about with happy noises, one of my favorite moments of Luigi's Mansion 3 was when the two finally met up and there was a complete contrast between them.
@BabyYoshi12 Galaxy's mechanics wouldn't really mix well with the RPG games since they tend to be quite limited in terms of platforming and action gameplay. The gravity mechanics need full platforming to work well.
@Bolt_Strike Sure, RPG's tend to be limited in platforming, but who said RPG's had to be the same thing every time? Using Galaxy's controls you'd get a pretty excellent game and RPG.
