@Operative2-0 You are making a non-real point about optics as opposed to actual rightfulness. If Nintendo listened to you they would be in effect lying by withholding the information that Breath of the Wild would have DLC past the release date and allowing people to spend money on the game without the availability of that knowledge.
. The game itself is already complete AND busting with more content than any Zelda game prior. Most people will probably buy the DLC individually, or when they have the funds to justify it. $19.99 isn't even a steep price for a season pass.
Bursting with content is a bit strong imo, there's a large amount of info missing from the game and I wouldn't equate big world to lots of content. We still don't know how many dungeons (real dungeons, not shrines) with it looking likey to be 4 or 5 and items like the hook shot, grinder etc and I'd be shocked if they are more than TP and OOT.
Also you can't buy the packs individually, it's a season pass or nothing.
@Haru17 optics? To be honest I think the confusing thing about your posts is you're using words that don't make sense in the context of your argument.
I don't agree that withholding the information would be lying. To that effect are they lying to us if they don't instantly tell us if Mario Kart 8 will get more DLC?

See that's a funny point! Zelda I'm buying , day one, collectors edition, DLC didn't sell me on that.
MK8 Deluxe however, I'd like to know what their plans are regarding future DLC before I double dip!
I'll certainly get the DLC for Zelda but it wasn't a deal breaker.
Off point I know, and apologies, just some fleeting thoughts
@Haru17 actually makes a fair point. This way, those who are upset about the game being "incomplete" can at least know it's incomplete before buying it.
Alright, now I'm completely fine with the way they handled this.
I can concede that point. I guess it's nice for people to know the game that goes on sale will not be the final version of said game.
Still, overall, my main point real or "non real", is that considering everything else people have been concerned with over the switch, they chose a poor time to announce it.
And if we've established that the best time to announce this was before release, then it makes total sense that Nintendo didn't show off any of it, because then it would just appear that Nintendo's holding all of this back on purpose. This way, Aonuma's simply informing us customers that they have these concrete plans to keep developing the game post-release. As long as there are no early-adopter bonuses, I think this is the best way they could have done this.
I hope we do get to see it eventually, though. The new features, maybe the extra CoT challenge... I would like to see it before I buy it sometime in the summer.
@Operative2-0, if the DLC was more than $20, I would agree with you, but honestly, next to the $90 dock and the $70 pro controller, this expansion pack is hardly a thought.
Nintendo (and any other developer) isn't obligated to tell you anything.
They offer a product at a certain price on a certain day. They withhold information about additional content? Thats your problem, you were happy with what was given at that price.
Additional content for many games is discussed and partially developed and sometimes not released. Nobody is obligated to keep you informed every step of the way.
also, yes, the price isnt really that much, but like I said in the context of Nintendos current situation I can understand the annoyance that people would have with being asked for more money at this point in time
@AlexSays No, they don't have to, but keeping us informed is honest and I appreciate it. I'd say there's a small obligation, but businesses don't have to perform obligations if it's not profitable. And somewhere in Nintendo's cold heart is a part that knows that customer satisfaction is important, pre and post release.
No one is obligated to do much of anything in a capitalist society because those have precious little accountability. We're not talking about obligation, we're talking about forthrightness and consumer ethics.
And to @Nicolai's point, the $20 price tag is why I can see the season pass-only pay structure. I think it's very possible that the team wants everyone's copy of Breath of the Wild to be in two states only: release version and the newest, most updated version. By bundling it all together for a pretty extremely low price (which everyone is keen to glaze over), Nintendo can reduce consumer confusion and increase the instal rate of the content they do develop.
And finally, there is no possible way they do not release trailers for at least each update; summer and holiday.

@Octane I never heard one way or the other, but I would assume it's not included. It would be nice, but I see no reason for them to want to.
Oh gosh, I just realized. I hope the file size of these updates is small. They wouldn't go on the cartridge would they? I don't want to buy an SD card for the Switch for a long time.
@Dezzy I very much agree that story DLC can be excellent, but it has to be done correctly. I cannot speak to Dark Souls, but with Mass Effect much the DLC though excellent would have a hard time standing on its own if you already completed the games. Take the DLC squad mate missions for instance. Even if it was not intentionally cut to make DLC and was developed after the main game was set, it still fits best in your main play through. If a game has a great story arch like Mass Effect or BOTW seems to have it is strange to jump back into the world after completing the main quest to do one more side mission or dungeon. My hope is that they avoid this with BOTW by somehow making the additional content stand apart. Putting the player in the world through Zelda's eyes and fleshing out the main story from a different angle could be a cool way to do this in the 3-6 hours of gameplay you might expect from an expansion. Not to mention it would fulfill a dream of a playable female character that a portion of the player base has had for some time now. I like what Nintendo has done with DLC on the Wii U, so I am hopeful that they can do well with this too, but I am taking the wait and see approach with this one.
I'm not super excited about the cost of this DLC for something that won't pay off for another 8-9 months, and even then we have no idea how much content is going to be there. Nintendo's DLC track record is pretty mixed so far in my experience (MK8 is about the only one where I can say I the cost was justified by the quality and quantity of content), so I'm obviously apprehensive about this. New content for this game needs to be some combination of new items, a new area, and/or new characters that make a new quest or story line worth it. 20$ for a new costume and for stuff that should otherwise be in a $60 game is a bit of a joke, and Nintendo just doesn't have the track record to inspire a lot of trust for this yet.
