Honestly the comment section on the YouTube section is just stupid. People just jumping to conclusions about how this was cut content. We can't see until the dlc comes out. What's funny is that if the game were delayed to include this extra content, there would been a massive uproar. I'm excited tho, I like the idea of constantly updating games rather then waiting for the next instalment. This is espically the case for Nintendo consoles since we only usually get one entry per console. Anyway, all we can do right now is to just wait and see.
That's a common worry because a lot of developers do seem to do that. FF15 feels like its story DLC really should've been in the main game, given how lacking it is.
And there was that time Bioware did Day1 DLC, a phrase that should never exist.
Anyway to stem away from the war waging in the comment section, what do you possibly think the new story dlc will be about? I think it could possibly be before link is resurrected. Maybe seeing hyrule before it was destroyed. Another possibility which would be really cool is that you get to play as Zelda. She could fight with magic and a rapier and the story could be based solely around her? It definitely add a lot more depth and a new perspective.
Edit: The new artwork released with the details of the expansion is gorgeous!

Another thing to consider is that maybe this is another way to make the first Switch months kind of more enjoyable on a software basis.
It's not coming out in the first few months though, the pack is summer and the second during the holidays.
Maybe first months was not the perfect saying, but you know what i meant. For example the summer DLC can work pretty well with Splatoon 2 to be kind of a filler since no other major hit is coming in that period for what we know now

FF15 was just a mess with all of those movies and anime shows to explain what was going in the story.
The DLC announcement and timing feels very gross, personally. At a time where I'm spending hundreds of dollars to pay this game on the switch, then already telling us how the game is going to have more to it for a price before it's even out just didn't feel right. And please, let's not demonize everyone that's not on board with this season pass stuff. I'm betting a whole bunch of people that made fun of games on other consoles having season passes while boasting about how Nintendo doesn't do it are suddenly all on board with it now.
The issue is that €20 can be a lot or nothing depending on the content. Like, what's the new map feature? The Cave of Trials, is that a new cave in addition to the one that's already in the game, or did they lock this one behind a paywall? Same for the hard mode. DLC Pack 2 is so vague, that can be anything. I wish they had announced this at a time when they could actually show the contents of the DLC, like E3. Not a big fan of the timing.
Also, how big is the download file for the DLC? I'm running out of space on my Wii U...
@Operative2-0 I definitely see where you are coming from but I feel like we need to wait and see. I remember people be very anxious (not as much as in this case) about the dlc for mario kart 8 but in the end it turned out very well and we all wanted more. But you're right about the demonising thing. Anybody for or against it shouldn't be demonised. Everybody should be able to voice their opinion.

They didn't even explain much, and were all focused on the events at the beginning of the game. Whereas the DLC all look like they're gonna fit into the second half of the story (based on the assumption that they'll fit into the parts where each of the main characters went missing for a while), which is the part that desperately needed better story telling.
@Operative2-0 Substantial. Yep, that's what I'm worried about. I'm paying €50 for a giant open world with hours of content; €20 in comparison is a lot, but I doubt the size of the DLC will be a third of the content of the base game. With Mario Kart 8 we got half the base game's worth in tracks for just €12, that was great. But on the other hand, they've also been milking the Smash fanbase with €5 character DLCs. So yeah, again, time will tell...
Well, at least the DLC isn't tied to an amiibo... Still I'm not really happy to hear about this.
Now that you make me notice they could have use new BOTW Amiibos to make it. I'm not so much disappointed, maybe i'm even a little bit happy because DLC content can be really a lot to add to the game. On this aspect only time will tell, but what i mean is that Kimishima-san talked so much about making amiibos more worth about gaming than be just collectibles, this could be a missed shot
Gosh that's some inscrutable language, but let's try anyway!
'In-game map' presumably specifies that the update will be to the existing map of Hyrule, as marketing departments typically use 'new area' for entirely new locations. It would be very funny if they were referring to the literal Sheikah Slate map, but I get the feeling they're talking about adding to the world.
Unfortunately 'feature' is as ambiguous as they come. It could be a new physical system like weather, a single new point of interest or many, or even just an NPC or vendor. Who knows, but this is one of the most intriguing points about the new game, besides of course what kind of side story they'll tell.
The whole timing aspect makes my hair stand on end. It's similar to the time the Red Ash Kickstarter was announced before comcept had really established trust with the community. I got the feeling the company was just trying to gather the money they could before people found out the horrors within. I didn't play Mighty No. 9, but from what I've heard, I was right (no offense to those who enjoyed it).
I don't peg Aonuma as a scummy person by any means. The Zelda series under Aonuma has a long reputation of greatness imo. But the timing of this DLC announcement, as well as the assumption that we're being tempted to pay for this expansion pack before really seeing it, just seems unusually shifty for a company that thus far has been outstanding with handling DLC. After all, Nintendo's being led by a new president, and is selling a whole new platform. I hope a new regime of shifty DLC practices and incomplete games isn't also on the horizon.
Probably not, though. It's only $20, and this game is supposedly bigger than your average game anyway. It still seems worth it to me so far.
We're talking about this game now. None of those talking are going to not buy it anyway. It increases the scope of the launch significantly: instead of taking about one or more games and whether or not it'll be enough, we're taking the game for granted in order to discuss potential additions.
Lastly, they now have new mario and new Zelda content for reviewers to talk about this holiday season.
No damage, nothing more, increased launch prospects, biggest increase in positive media footprint. Also, no launch review is going to talk about few games without literally having to mention that there's more to come.
Someone at their communications level has been paying attention. I like this.
Maybe they screwed up on the DLC's timing. If they had announced it at E3, like "The summer pack is available right now" it would have been a hit. But announcing it know leaves everyone feeling antsy about the possibility of DLC being cut content.
I'll wait until we get more info on the season pack 2 to splash - I was thinking, I haven't used the DLC for FE, and barely played the DLC for MK8. So, I really have to check its contents.
Still, the games big as it is. The official guide confirmed it. 120 Shrine mini-dungeons, 900 Korok seed puzzles, 76 side quests – all mapped out and ready for you to discover and complete! Also includes optional challenges, mini-games, unlockables, Easter eggs, and more. Plus the possible 4/5 main dungeons.
