@Haru17 Maybe you need Zora's Scale or whatever that item was called? I hope diving is in the game, it would be weird to not include it.

I hope you actually get to explore the castle town somehow. Seems like it's just the ruins in the main world.

Can we also fix the double hinged door problem while we're at it?

But yeah. I'd be down for that. I really hope they're taking after games like Skyrim and let you go into all (if not most) of the houses too. I hate when you have these open world games that don't let you go inside anywhere.

Lol Xenoblade X. Biggest game world ever made by hand. 4 different buildings you can go inside.

@Nicolai You know, doors in your average game swing open in both directions. Doors don't work like that!!

@Octane You're right, well, about the Zora's Scale / Earring being a likely prerequisite to diving powers. Thing is, there's already a contextual 'dive' animation. Only it's just down into water, not down under water.

Also, for what it's worth, there's never been a 3D title with Zoras without underwater areas. Unless you count The Wind Waker, and that game had about as many underwater areas as it has Zoras.

They should add the Zora warp-pools from ALttP.

It would be glorious to behold in this game with the physics engine.

@Meowpheel

They were just teleporters weren't they? Where's the physics? Or did you mean the twirling around in the water bit?

Yeah, it would be kinda like the hurricanes from wind waker, but more fun.

I'm wondering if there'll even be fast travel at all. Surely they're intending the towers + sailcloth combination will work for most things. Although might struggle going up mountains I guess.

Link can fast travel to each tower and shrine he has synced his iPad to. It's been in several of the demo videos, he dissolves into blue strings of light and flies into the sky. He reforms in those circles atop of towers, in front of shrines, and inside the resurrection shrine. They're like transporter rooms from Star Trek, but 'open air'

Did you guys see this already? It's a sample of the load times in BotW for Switch.

From 00:06 to 00:19 it takes about 13 seconds to load the game, and then from 00:24 to 00:52 it takes about 27-28 seconds to load the save file!
So approximately 40 seconds to start playing if you're fast at menuing.

Who didn't fantasize about instant load times of course... but this is not bad at all!

Okay guys so today, after 2 and a half grueling hours standing in line at PAX South I got to play BotW on Switch. As for the controls I can say that everything is pretty snappy and my only very minor gripe would be that situating the camera can be awkward. So, the very odd thing that my friend and I noticed was that the game would have instances of extremely notable lag/frame drops in docked mode. Curiously enough, when in tablet mode I experienced very little, if any, lag. Having watched Switch footage prior to my own demo with the game there is a very stark contrast with performance. Other than an extremely noticeable lack of Anti-aliasing, which I didn't really gleam from recorded footage, that is the only visual difference I found from my own experience. Now, it is very possible that the TVs we played on made the game look less than ideal (aside from colors) or somehow had me perceive performance drops. I hope that's the case, but if not then perhaps the hardware malfunctioning (most likely the dock?) is to blame. Either way, hopefully what we've seen from other demos is a more accurate representation of the game.

Loading time to me is really good. Wii U requires 40 secs just to start the OS!

@Tsurii: fast travel is great and all, but one of the best things about OoT (especially for speedrunning) is the network of secret passages to other areas on the map. It often have you about 3 different ways to get to a destination. I wouldn't mind if this was used in Breath of the Wild, though it looks like there are enough Resurrection Towers to get around easily with those alone.

@TromboneGamer Many people have repeated the same observation that there are more instances of weird momentary lag when Docked. Hopefully that's something they can fix via a patch.

The overall performance in the Switch gameplay seems to be very smooth and definitely better than in the 2016 E3 Wii U version, so I don't think it's a sign of the Switch not being able handle the game. Yet there are some momentary framerate dips. To me they seem very random and impossible to repeat in similar conditions. This tells me that they are remnants of the porting process.
But I'm really not a tech guy, I don't actually know.

How frequent were the dips?

@Moshugan It's hard to tell really, but when the dips happened I think they persisted until I moved out of the area or looked in some other directions. As far as I could tell there wasn't anything to correlate the drops. The usual suspects would be instances of looking out into the game world in which the game is rendering things at long distances. However, the drops would happen in large and small areas so it's really weird.

Nicolai

Yikes, what an ugly save screen. I know that's standard for most other games, but I'm gonna miss naming my save and seeing my hearts and collectibles.

@Nicolai Yeah, I would be pretty disappointed in particular if that's Breath of the Wild's title screen. Animated concept art is not my idea of an attract mode.
