I'm hoping for two lines of dialogue to explain they need the Triforce's MacGuffin powers and then onto the actual game.

I really really hope in the sequel we get to play as zelda. I mean even if only very briefly for side missions or something. Anybody think It'll happen?

I don't think they'd make her the main character, because they like sticking with their traditional formula. I could definitely imagine they might have some small chapters where you play as her though. Maybe it would switch gameplay style from action to stealth, or something like that.

I'm thinking of the Ellie segment from the first Last of Us as an example. That was a great use of the switching perspective.

@Dezzy The last game was a break away from the traditional formula. ;p

Just playing devils advocate but since they are using the same world in BOTW2 I expect some kind of shake to warrant reusing it and perhaps playing as Zelda with a different move set might be that.

They actually had a Zelda game in development with the Zelda, in Sheik form, as the main character. It was being made by Retro and it was along enough that the new Sheik design was used in Smash before the game was cancelled. Not alot was known about but concept ark has leaked and it was meant to be about OOT's bad ending where Link dies.

@jump

Yeah and it took them 20 years between shake-ups of the formula, Lol!

I don't think they're gonna make too many major changes in this next game (in terms of the basic formula).

I also don't really think it will be the "same world". I think if it's actually set in the same world, it will have changed massively. Either there will have been loads of new towns and locations created in the intervening time, or there will be some kind of big event that somehow changes the landscape (e.g dark world version, or flooding or something like that.) They've been working on this for over 4 years, they're not gonna just recycle the entire landscape.

@Dezzy Yeah I was tinking if it's gonna be the "same world" they need to do something to changes things up an given Zelda's history with Dark Worlds and child/adult timelines etc I can see a flip flop between the two. One to remind be how great the first game was and the other to add something different even if it's largely the same.

A more obvious answer would be just to dump some dungeons in it but given how much focus was on exploring that may not cut it for people.

Yeah clearly a lot of people want proper dungeons, but I really don't know how they could do that same size open world without shrines, or something like them. There just wouldn't be enough to reward exploration. The shrines were absolutely key to the original game.

@Dezzy Something will replace shrines probably. The shrines themselves are completely gone on the map though.

@VoidofLight Given that we saw a handful seconds of Hyrule in the trailer it's too early to say they are completely gone.

@jump if you compare the image of the overworld from the trailer and an image of it from the first game, the divine beasts and shrines are completely gone. There’s literally a shrine that’s apparent from the shot, and it’s just completely gone now. The lizard on the volcano is also gone.

@VoidofLight In the first game they all popped up after Link touched his iphone on the first tower, could be the same again but in any case it's way too early to say what is and isn't in the game based on the trailer.

To be honest, I just want them make another 100. Put them in completely new places so it's still a challenge hunting for them. Come up with some nonsense lore explanation for how it happened.
Oh and ditch the battle shrines, they were boring. Maybe just have 4 or 5 of them.

VoidofLight

@jump The thing is though, Canonically Link did all the shrines as well, due to them being there to train the hero. Plus, I doubt they'd reuse the same gimmick as before. I feel like Shiekah tech might take a back seat, due to the fact that Calamity Ganon was smart enough to infect it in the first place, and the people of Hyrule now know the danger it poses.

@Dezzy The battle shrines are just a pain to do in Master Mode as well. The enemies are always stronger, and you end up using all of your weaponry to take one enemy down in the end.

I actually didn't know most of these things:

They’re not that bad. Short circuit them with an electric weapon (especially a thunder rod) and follow up with a heavy weapon. Use Cinetis+ if you get into trouble. Rinse and repeat. The reward is always worth it.

@Euler I'll attempt that. Thanks!

@Slowdive Excellent catch.

I am almost fully convinced that Nintendo's investment in the Havok physics model presages a big shift in how they make certain games. The kind of interactivity and sheer play possible with environmental interaction seems to have inspired some people in Kyoto.

It's amazing how the physics are for BotW. I believe they even spent the most time developing the physics engine itself.
