@Spoony_Tech Yep I missed getting this game on the PS4 or Xbox One, even when on sale, simply due to the idea of being able to play the game on the go!

I'm not really sure what Bethesda is thinking, but I can tell you what they're NOT thinking, and that's "The best way to get Skyrim Enhanced Edition to sell well on the Switch."

They're probably thinking "we've never really seen how much Nintendo fans like our games". Lets find out in as cheap a way as possible.

My guess is that it will give the same result as "How much do Nintendo fans like Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed?" (i.e not much)

the numbers I made up for how Skyrim might sell on Switch is probably around the sales for a top-tier popular VC title on even Wii U.

Add me to the "portable Skyrim" crowd. I already own the game on PC, but my laptop can't run it so having it on my Switch for playing away from home is enough to convince me to double-dip.

I think there's a big difference with Skyrim on Switch and Mass Effect and Assassins Creed on Wii U (aside from shoddy ports and missing the marketing boat). That difference is Zelda BoTW.

That game is huge and it will build, from day 1, a big audience for similar types of game. A lot of people will buy the Switch for Zelda BoTW, play it, finish it and then look around for something similar because they are people who find big open world fantasy RPGs appealing. So Zelda brings the audience that makes it possible for Skyrim to be a success on Switch.

Plus big time sink RPGs are a perfect fit for handhelds.

You're right, and maybe that's the reason why they pushed Skyrim out of the launch window. When it comes out, they'll promote it as continuing the open world experience for people that liked Zelda's design.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Skyrim is already way better promoted then those games' Wii U ports tbh. Probably because it's not involved with Wii U's pre-release marketing.

You have a point, and for all I know you could be right.

But I think the sales are going to come from A Nintendo fans who don't own other consoles or usually play other games, due to Zelda turning them on to the idea of open world RPG, and B gamers who have already played Skyrim but love the game to death, and either want it portably and/or don't own any new consoles yet and will choose Switch simply because it's a cool system and Skyrim will offer them their favorite game to relive, both at home and on the go

Now granted this is not based on any real scientific data or study or anything of that nature. But I have a coworker and he doesn't own any consoles, at this point. He was saving up to buy a PS4 because he wanted to play the Skyrim game remastered for it. But is soon as he heard it was coming to Switch he held off, and waited until he got confirmation the game was actually going to come. As soon as the presentation aired he pre-ordered the system at GameStop the next day. They told him it wouldn't be out until late summer or fall but he was OK with that, because Zelda was a launch game and he said as long as he knows the game is coming out soon that's fine with him.

No he might just be an anomaly or it could be coincidence, my brother also was talking about owning the system just for this game on the go. And I've talk to at least one or two others on the Internet who have said the same thing. I've heard more non-Nintendo gamers (or gamers who don't prioritize Nintendo) talk about buying the system for Skyrim then I have heard them talk about buying it for Zelda. Which in my opinion I think Zelda is going to be the better game but I understand what it's like when you're in love with a game. And when it comes to Skyrim there are tens of millions of people who are in love with the game. If even just a small portion of those people were willing to buy the system to get their favorite game on the go (or a combination of that and replaying it- A lot of people might've played last generation or on PC who don't yet own a current gen console), it could really bolster year one sales and help grow the base during this early time when it's really crucial.

Of course I could be completely off with this. But I'll definitely be buying it, and I really hope it succeeds but if it doesn't, I'm just glad that we got this game. No matter what happens we will always have Zelda and Skyrim to play on the go, and that's pretty awesome

@JaxonH maybe you can get sales from console skyrim fans but i doubt die hard skyrim fans would be interested die to one reason: mod support. You cabt be a die hard skyrim fan playing on the PC without using extensive mods soni doubt they will sacrifice that just for portability

@diwdiws
Maybe. Idk, I have a PC. And an Xbox One with full mod support. Yet I'm buying it for portability.

Someone was saying it would have mod support though... Probably have to wait for more details. I'd be shocked if it didn't though, at the very least like how PS does it.

(This post is going off the assumption that we're getting the Special Edition of Skyrim, which we might not be. Todd Howard just said Skyrim at the presentation, so who knows.)

Mod support for Special Edition is a far cry from normal modded Skyrim, though. The mods on PC are vastly more expansive than anything you could find in SE. They can completely change the game. I would much rather have regular modded Skyrim than buy any version of Special Edition. I guess we'll have to see how good the mod support is, if it gets mods at all.

@KirbyTheVampire thats what i was thinking. As a PC gamer, i dont see me sacrificing my 60+ mods just to play skyrim on the go. Once you mod skyrim, there isn't really any going back

I love Skyrim don't get me wrong if you have never played it before then by all means buy it. My issue is not only is it a 5 year old game (6 by the time it releases on the switch) it also costs £60. Plus it may or may not be the special edition. It may not come with the DLC.

Why didn't they just put Fallout 4 on there? It's only a year old. The final DLC packs just released. Why didn't they put that on the switch as a GOTY edition with all the DLC?

ocelot20

Spoony_Tech

@ocelot20 I was just thinking that. While I want Skyrim as well I'd much rather they put Fall Out 4 on the system. However like was said above Skyrim might fit the whole what do I play now that I'm done with Zelda theme better.

What's the difference with mods? I'm one of the few that haven't played Skyrim, and while my notebook has decent specs I'm not sure it could run it, so I'm pretty excited for the Switch version.

Mods basically add anything and everything to the game. Look up a few mod showcases on YouTube and you'll get a basic idea.

Vanilla Skyrim is still super great, and you should play that before you get into PC modded Skyrim, if you ever do. (Especially if your computer can't run it. Might as well play a portable version that runs well than an unplayable non-portable mess)

One of the more well known mods for Skyrim replaces the dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine.

Here's a good example of modded Skyrim (language warning):

@Luna_110 The sky is the limit really. New weapons, new campaigns or lands, dumb stuff (like putting macho man randy savage's face on the dragons), new characters, new animation/spells or my favorite and why I use mods: graphical improvements. Bethesda makes horrible textures. I have replaced like 99 percent of the game and put in a lighting mod.
