What I don't get is why haven't they given a release date yet? Is Nintendo asking them to hold off? The game is suppose to release in less then 3 months and yet nothing. I doubt they wait this long to announce a date on other systems.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Spoony_Tech Bethesda was cagey about the 8th gen Special Edition re-release too. I can only assume that it's because their team are still working on the port and its gold date is up in the air. Also the company hasn't printed on cartridges for, oh, 20 years, so that's another variable.
And I very much doubt Nintendo will allow mods. They might permit the Creation Club though since they go through official channels and Bethesda will probably have asked for both. I'm not sure if microtransaction charges even work on Switch since amiibo are obviously sold at retail.
@DarthNocturnal Survival mode in Skyrim would be excellent if it's as well-designed, I had tens of hours of fun replaying Fallout 4 in that. The problems that come to mind are that, because Skyrim's updates wrapped before survival was added to Fallout 4 it's not going to have Bethesda's internal development behind it, survival mode without VATS is even harder, and I'm not sure the beds in Skyrim are as evenly spread out.
The world is definitely believably designed in that bandit camps have the corresponding number of beds or sleeping rolls, however I think there are some long dungeons without them which could then become a big problem if beds are your only way to save (which was the coolest part of F4's survival mode).
@DarthNocturnal Sure, but mods are never going to be like something an AAA dev can produce. Skyrim's core development is over is what I mean. I don't see a point in the bed save restriction if they're just going to make a workaround for saving anywhere you want. But I guess even if survival mode just rebalanced the game in a way that spells were deadly at high levels and difficulty, that would be great.
Well, there was already sufficient amount of proof that we'd get the Special Edition, but now it has been officially confirmed by Bethesda itself in this official press release
I'm also not sure why they just didn't come out and say it day 1. The only remote possibility I can think of was that they weren't entirely sure at the time how the Special Edition (DLC and all) would hold up on the Switch.

@Tyranexx I don't think they saw the reason for the naming convention honestly. If you have it on PC for instance the naming change helps you tell the difference between versions. However Nintendo has not seen this game in any iteration than this one so no reason to add that qualifier.
I'm not being snarky here but it was fairly obvious (my opinion of course, again no snark here) it was the legendary edition from the get go and also it wouldn't make much sense to go to a previous build because of all the bug fixes (....IF ONLY I COULD LOAD THE UNOFFICIAL PATCHES AS WELL...).
However I could see with concerns about the power of the switch and those that haven't been playing the game since 11/11/11 where confusion could arise. I don't think Bethesda had that occur to them (I certainly didn't and thus couldn't understand all the hand wringing) that it was a point that required clarification.

Probably uncertainty on new hardware and not wanting to overpromise + disappoint. And for the record, I don't see the special edition in the press release, they just have the sales link for it embedded.
Skyrim Switch is the SE or close, they just still aren't calling it that because 'Skyrim Switch' is more attractive.
I have got so say I'm more and more excited about the port. I might remake one of my favorite character builds just to play either the Longhammer or Bloodskal Blade (spoilers don't google) with motion controls.
@Ryu_Niiyama: Honestly it isn't a huge deal for me since I'm just thrilled that the game is coming to a Nintendo platform. It would have kinda sucked to pay full price if it hadn't been the Special Edition though since you know there are better versions out there. Announcing it at the beginning would have shut up the naysayers, but I suppose Bethesda had their reasons (or, like your hypothesis, they didn't think it was important).
I'm still not sure if I want to go with a Dark Elf (Dunmer?), Khajiit, or an Argonian for my first character. I'm not sure if I want to do a straight-up assassin type or a thief mage....

@DarthNocturnal I wouldn't expect any bug fixes beyond what is in the legendary edition. This is still Bethesda. Although the motion controls addition may have prompted them for final tuning, but Bethesda is notorious for leaving games still riddled with bugs after they stop support. I would say use the pc version as a bench mark and go from there.
@Tyranexx I'm usually an Altmer (high elf) or a Redguard, personally. I may try an Orsimer (orc) this time around. After a point the race is just a skin anyway. If you have an idea how you want to build your character you can do almost anything after a point. Playing with the sigil stones help with that too. I know that I'll only play this on the go so I'm considering doing a totally different play style. Perhaps play as a male and join the dark brotherhood or be a vampire for once.

@DarthNocturnal I don't think crashing really happens at all anymore. The only person I've heard of who had that issue was one guy who bought the game the day it launched for the PS3.
Overall, the game really isn't very buggy anymore. They've been patching it for years.
@Tyranexx Is this your first time playing the game? Either way, I personally would recommend Argonian. All the races have a unique power they can use, and the Argonian's is without a doubt the most useful out of the three. Also keep in mind that the various races start out with points already put into a select few skills, like Lockpicking, Sneak, Heavy Armor etc etc. That won't be a big deal in the end, because you can ultimately build any race to be effective in any role, but it's something to think about.
At the end of the day though, I would pick a race based on what you find most aesthetically pleasing first, and their power second.
Not to quash creativity, but Altmer are probably the most efficient choice for characters who are going to use magic due to their 50 extra max magicka (You increase either health, stamina, or magicka by 10 each level.). Don't pay much mind to the initial bonus', as skills are easy to increase at low levels.
@Ryu_Niiyama: I'm crazy and tend to gravitate away from playing as a human-like avatar when possible. XD I've considered an orc as well, but I think for my first playthrough I'll stick with the three I mentioned. It's good to know that the race means little after a while anyway.
In my (brief) time with Oblivion, I did play as a Dunmer. I probably spent half of my first playtime customizing her. XD I'm sure that'll be the case with Skyrim as well.
@KirbyTheVampire: I'm one of the ten people who hasn't played Skyrim. XD I know a little about the game from info that I've picked up over time, but I'm afraid to do too much research in an attempt to avoid spoilers.
As mentioned above, that's reassuring to see that race ultimately means little in this game. I'm interested in Dunmer due to their background and aptitude with magic. Khajiit because they're, well, cats, and I'm likewise fascinated with their background, stealth, and unarmed combat. The same applies, to an extent, to the Argonians. Histskin looks pretty useful too.
I'm sure I'll make up my mind when the time comes.

@DarthNocturnal Meh. Running the legendary edition on pc (came out in 2013). Came out before the special edition but has all the same patches. My game is running about 60 texture mods so the special edition would be a graphical downgrade (I have mods to make the food look better...I need help). They released those textures previously anyway as a stand alone download which I have loaded (and then my mods on top of it just in case a mod misses a random rock or something). The special edition is more to get the consoles matching PC (mods) and to optimize textures in a somewhat smaller package for PC. Then I have all the unofficial patches running on top of that.
@Tyranexx Welp, say goodbye to your social life. I think total give or take a few reinstalls I've put about 1300 hours into Skyrim and I still have a large number of quests I haven't done (some on purpose as I never play an evil character).
