Because we are effectively in lockdown because of the virus and schools are closed my lad wanted to chat with their friends while playing Team Sonic Racing.

Purchased Nintendo online, a headset and turned on in game chat.

The headset is plugged into the Aux port and the USB port on the stand.

I'm getting the in game audio through the headset but none of the online gamers are chatting.

Is this because you need to do something else to turn on online chat?

Other parents want me to set theirs up too once we get ours working.

I have read some games need a mobile phone to chat which seems ridiculous as most 5-6 years old don't have smart phones.

I just popped in my copy to see the "comms" feature. All it did was stop the team chatter during races from characters (for example, Amy said a taunt with it on, while in text only, she said nothing and only the text appeared). According to the game's online manual it's for teammate communications. I do not think it has voice chat.

I believe Switch Online uses a mobile phone app for chat, I can't try this personally as I still have an old flip phone (I'm hoping to upgrade one day). Hopefully someone who has the app and the game could offer some help, I don't know if the voice chat is even supported for this game.
