Topic: Switch setup stuck at joycon connection

Just booted up my switch, promted to attach the joy cons. Left joy con goes in with nice audible click, right joycon just the mechanical click of the device its self no audio of feedback from it.
Currently stuck on set up screen asking to attach joy cons. Any one else having issues? any solutions? seems to be a lack of guide or instructions included in the box or directions for support from nintendo.

If I remember rightly, might Switch asked me to detach the Joy Cons to continue through set up as it needed to sync them....

Gah, litteraly no support from nintendo, nothing online and just spent over an hour waiting on the phone to nintendo and told "it should just work" Is a problem with the right joy con not connecting, i can go to a shop and buy two new joy cons or send my switch back to retailer.

I'm having the same issue. I've held the power button to only resart and end up at the same screen (showing a stationary display with animated joycons sliding in). The left joycon has one of the four leds on however the right doesn't and when pressing the sync the lights just flash. I've went to gamestop to replace and the replacement right joycon still isn't getting me past the first setup screen.

Nintendo only offered to send a shipping label for me to ship and have repaired. I'm glad it's not just me. Especially after waiting 10 hours in line yesterday.

Have been looking online all day and on the phone to nintendo, seems to be affecting very few people, you're only the third person i've seen mention or acknowledge it. I also went to my local GAME store and tryed a new joy con, no joy was had.

The obvious course of action is to send the unit back to retailer (amazon for me). But the idea of that is leaving me very salty, as there will be no replacment switchs to send out any time soon.

@Jemco @Drewgy

I had a similar issue, but I overcame it. I don't really know how, I just kept taking the joy cons off, putting them back on, pressing the L and R buttons at various times. Got there in the end.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@gcunit thanks. I tried that and I'm afraid it's not resolving. I was however able to access the "Maintenance Mode". Holding both vol + and - together during and after pressing the power button brings you to this. Also found here;

This still doesn't help resolve the issue, though does give me further clarification that it is indeed the console not connecting to the right joycon. On the bottom left there is an "icon" which resembles the Switch with joycons attached. The right joycon is a light gray unlike the left.

Looks like I'll have no other option than to send this into Nintendo. I hope the repair or replacement turn around isn't long since they are none in stock aside from those already pre ordered.

@Drewgy You're not alone Brother, I've got the exact same issue and I also found a couple other people on Reddit and other Forums with the same problem. I cannot get a replacement until next Weekend cause they are out of stock, so if you find anything new that can fix this meanwhile please let us know!

Just an FYI for any new switch owners...just got mine today and had this issue. There is a little tiny power button for each controller. If you shut off both controllers by pushing the tiny button and slide them on without pushing any of the buttons it will work.

I just recently found the solution to this problem. I got my switch from ebay and bought the joy cons separately to save money. It turns out that any other aftermarket brand joy cons other than certified Nintendo joy cons won't register as connected. I used my homies Nintendo joy cons and I went straight to the set up screen. After, I disconnected his joy cons and connected my aftermarket ones and they've been working ever since. Hope this helps out. Keep it conscious
