Name : Chomper Race
ID : BFW-L0D-6FF
Style : New Super Mario Bros. U
Main area : Forest (day)
Sub Area : Forest (night)
Race against the chainchomps before they get to the end and kill you! Shouldn't be a hard course at all and I plan to make another version if people like it
I think my favorites of the ones I've made are The Great Icicle Escapade (CGC-BJ3-PFF) and Hop-Chomp Stomp (M4B-F09-7XG). I think The Terrible Towers (0G2-NJ9-XRG) is kind of fun too.
@Moarxman Played your Chomper Race level. Was fun. I admit, I had a bunch of plays where I held Y to run out of habit and picked up the shell boat instead of jumping into it. I think it's possible to beat the first water part without the boat by swimming under most of the hazards though - not sure if it's faster. Liked the second part with the acid water and the on-off switches.
@JoeBBY1047 Played your level. Not bad. There were some good ideas in it that I think you could build a level out of, like the section where you go over spike tops and under thwomps. If I could give a couple tips, you used a lot of 1-up mushrooms: 1-ups only matter in Endless Challenge mode and you can only get 3 a level, so I usually use them as rewards for extra challenges or for finding hidden secrets. Coins are better for guiding the player where you want them to go, even if the path seems obvious to you, sprinkling some coins along it helps. And for level design, often finding a mechanic, item, or idea that seems interesting and building a level around that idea works well.
Hello everyone!
I created my first level with Mario Maker, I hope you enjoy it.
Green Forest Sawmill
K9M-XJK-X3G
Theme: Super Mario World
It is a simple level: I used circular saws and conveyor belts to create the sawmill theme in the woods. Look for the red coins and the secrets I have hidden in the level.
@1UP_MARIO Yeah, it's pretty weird that you can't see ghosts of the top player. I also wish they'd show off speed records for, like, the top five players. It would encourage competition, I think, and would acknowledge the effort that went into runs that are, as you say, off by milliseconds.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@NorseGamerTommy I liked your recreations of some of the puzzles in Jolly Roger Bay, particularly the cannon and the pirate ship, so that was fun. Most of that was optional - it would have been cool to see some of the challenges from Jolly Roger Bay worked into a level, maybe one where you collect red coins by defeating the eel, bouncing off the cannon, going through the pirate ship, etc. But if that wasn't what you were trying to do, I don't want to critique your level for not being a different one.
@Quarth Played your level. Enjoyed it. Fun to speed-run.
@Moredhel I really liked that one. Fun theme, good level design, fun to speed-run.
@Dodger I just beat The Great Icicle Escapada! Fantastic introduction, great progression and strong core idea! I had a blast and the level had almost the perfect difficulty.
I do have a couple of pointers if you want feedback:
The spikes that kill you if you don't jump on time are really sudden and only avoidable through trial and error. I'd add some kind of warning — have you seen Boomstick's video on Downwell in MM*?
Here's a feedback I got on my level that goes for yours as well: you give the player a powerup if they're small and reach the checkpoint, but on subsequent runs they'll start small and there's no powerup
Anyway, you deserve way more plays in this level, I hope you get 'em, and I followed you!
But I'm afraid you're going to have to optimize further.
@JaxonH Do you see how close the margins are on these speedruns? I think we've found your best-optimized speedrun level. I literally can't slow down AT ALL to maintain these times.
@Ralizah wow 😞. Back to training for me.
I’ll give it another go in the weekend but I really can’t see me shaving anymore time from that. I’ll just have to try harder.
I’ll be back.

Wow. I feel honored you guys actually like the level enough to play it more than once.
Well done, both of you... you guys are pros.
Is it possible to do better though? Perhaps taking the secret warp hidden within the shortcut pipe?

@1UP_MARIO I'm impressed. You knocked me off the board of several levels that I thought I'd completely optimized my runs of. I had to spend an hour getting myself back in first place across Jax's levels. You're good competition.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@JaxonH I've played all of your levels multiple times. And I'll keep playing them to maintain my place at the top of the heap.
Although, admittedly, that one had such razor thin margins that I was starting to go a little mad trying to get back to first place.
Except one of your levels. I have no idea how the guy who has the record managed to get the time he did. Must be a secret hidden somewhere that I need to find.
@Ralizah you taken all of my world records. NOOOOOOOOO but seriously I would’ve loved to see that run. I really hope they at least add ghost replays in the future. I’m not giving up just yet but those times are incredible hard to beat
