@JaxonH " I suppose Dark Souls comes closest but most ppl are just trolling in that game'

Yeah, there are a lot of those in that game... and I'm ashamed to say that I might be one of them haha 😛. To be fair, I never disrespect players or anything, I just invade without mercy since the Demon's Souls games on PS3. Receiving my first invasion was what hooked me on them but I guess that it might be annoying to some players.

Wonder seems like such a happy, enjoyable experience that I kinda need in my life right now because of my father's terminal cancer. Unfortunately, there are a lot of expenses for the moment but seeing everyone have such a great time makes me want to prioritize getting it once I'm able.

Glad to see everyone having a great time, hopefully I'll join you guys sooner than later.

@NeonPizza
I'm not as far into the game as I'd like to be but from what I've heard so far, I'd say I agree with you. It's way above the NSMB soundtracks but not as good as World or SMB 1 and 3.

@NeonPizza
Yea, I don't know if it reaches the levels of the classics on NES/SNES, but I think it's above anything else since then (in 2D).

I'm only on W3 but this game is so magical so far.
NSMBU felt mostly soulless despite being competent.

What Would W. Do?

GalaxicGlobe

@blindsquarel They are somewhat different but its more of a "Wow look he is fire powered with a fire stage" or "Wow look he is ice powered with an ice stage" thing (which is not awful but not the best)
I still think that they are fun. But if you mean attacks he really just spins and jump like usual.

Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)

@NeonPizza Its great but not as good as SMB3, world, or any of the classics.

@NintendoByNature SMB3 is my favorite tied with Wonder.
I have also not finished world but I would put that at number 3 behind NSMB WII.

@GalaxicGlobe yep..I love NSMB wii as well. Think I'll give world another go after i play through pikmin 4.

The more I play of Mario Wonder, the more I think the Nintendo Life score of 9/10 is wrong, it should be a 10/10.

The policy says a 10/10 is "Of course no game is ever truly perfect, but a score of ten indicates that it is an outstanding example in the current climate of games. We don't dish this score out lightly, this is a genre defining game that we absolutely feel you should own."

I think it is an outstand example of a platformer in the current or historical climate of games.

While I love the SMB3 and World, I think Wonder is the better game.
SMB3 is still my favourite, but I think if played together for the first time (without taking in consideration graphics ans such), Wonder is more fun... but sadly too easy.

GalaxicGlobe

@Zequio I can agree with this.
I think wonder does have some difficulty (the 5 star levels and some of the 4 star) but I honestly didnt really struggle with SMB3 except for some levels.

@EaglyBird The controls definitely feel weightier than the NSMB games. Things like jumps definitely feel tighter and you have less momentum so you don't continue running as far after a jump. Probably the best feeling controls in a 2D Mario game in my opinion.

Just 100% the game!! Took around 12-13 hours to beat and the game was a blast!
The last couple of levels are REALLY hard took me quite a while to beat but Im happy to say that it lived up to the hype!!
10/10 from me.

@GalaxicGlobe The Invisible part of the last level destroyed me. The rest was challenging but not too bad, but the one section took me like 50 tries. Also when I finally beat it the first time I missed the top of the flagpole. 😭 I despise that badge with a burning passion . Still excellent game though.

Also just got all 6 medals! Had a really wonderful time with the game. There’s so much to praise, but it’s already been roundly praised by many more before, so it’s hard to know what to add.

I will say, it’s the first time I’ve played a 2D Mario platformer that feels like a 3D one — in terms of sheer imagination, ambition and just… vibe. The release of a new mainline 3D Mario Game is an event, and for good reason. Wonder feels like a similar cause for celebration.

After the Mario Maker games broke 2D Mario into pieces and let people make merry with them, the question on a lot of people’s lips was “where does 2D Mario go from here?” It seems the answer was, “off the flipping rails”.

Naturally, there have been a lot of comparisons between Wonder and the preceding NSMB games, and the contrast is certainly stark. The latter stores has caught a lot of flack recently and while I think most criticism is valid, for some reason I feel compelled to defend the original New Super Mario Bros. on the DS, which was a cracking little title for what it was. Obviously not Earth-shattering, but really good fun, and a genuine step in a new direction for the series. Sadly, any laurels the game garnered were then resolutely rested upon (for years!) and the ‘New’ moniker started to seem ever more questionable with each release. Even so, the first game still has a place in my heart.

Stuart Gipp wrote a fond reflection on it here a few years back, which I think is worth a read!

@FishyS Lol idk why but the Badge that makes you keep jumping was the one I struggled with the most. I also don't know how I beat the invisibility part on my 1st try but hey I wasn't complaining! (I dont know how to do the spoiler thing or the black box that you have to click so I didnt do it sorry :[ )

Honesty most of the Badge Challenges weren't really THAT hard. Most felt as case of trial-&-error. The Spring Jump Badge Challenge I was doing, was just basically timing.

I’m surprised that Nintendo made a really good 2D desert world. Usually either suck or are average at best.

If not for the bosses being lackluster, this would be a perfect game.

I beat Wonder earlier today. I'm considering going for 100% after the game ended on such a high note...Currently, I'm not sure if Wonder tops Super Mario Land 2 and New Super Mario Bros. for me. Wonder honestly could've made it easier if it had just been more original with its bosses. What's there I don't even think is bad, but considering the creativity in design for the rest of the game it really stands out that more wasn't done in that regard. I am surprised that Wonder didn't receive a 10/10 review on this site though.

FishyS

@I-U It was really obvious on the NintendoLife YouTube channel that Alex thought the game deserved a 10/10 but it's not a hard science and the particular reviewer went with 9.

In terms of 100%, I thought all the secrets in all the levels were pretty satisfying; there were none that were annoying to find or get. The initial special world levels from each world are also pretty fun. The final 2 special levels aren't quite as fun, but they're still somewhat interesting.
