I'll admit that (much like the crpg genre) the survival genre isn't my particular cup of tea. Managing slowly decreasing meters to stave off a game over screen is not what I would call entertainment. That said, once every blue moon a survival game manages to grab me. Everyone ragged on No Man's Sky at launch because it failed to deliver on more than a few promises. But that didn't stop me from devouring that game and popping the platinum trophy.
Chalk it up to my love for space-themed entertainment.
Anywho, Subnautica. I think the Switch port is shaping up nicely. Looking at reviews for the game from years passed there also seems to be a bit of a horror element to the world as you explore. Weird noises from creatures laying in wait down in the deep. And as I'm a fan of H.P. Lovecraft and the horrors of the unknown, that makes this game that much more enticing.

I've seen good things about it, and I'm definitely looking forward to trying it out for the first time when it comes. No news on a release date if I recall, right?
Physical release is listed as May 14th, I imagine the digital release will be the same day.
But that's always subject to change of course.

I just started playing the first game on PS4 a few days ago. It's really gripping so far - I spent basically the entire weekend playing it, aside from a spot of housework and occasional meals.
I don't see anything so far that wouldn't work great on the Switch. The environments are a bit challenging spacially but they aren't filled with twenty thousand blades of grass or anything. Draw distance might be a limiting factor that would just make exploration a bit harder. And I imagine the anemones and kelp will be a bit less animated on the Switch. But it should still play well.
I don't know yet if it's good enough that I would double dip. But it's an excellent game so far.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
Honestly, I never got into this game. I tried it once on Xbox one, but I never knew what I was supposed to actually do in order to progress. I'm alright with survival games, with ones like Minecraft being games that I used to play all the time as a child, but I just couldn't really get into this one.

developer said they are taking more serious optimization work for ALL platform , with particular dedication for switch all the footage above is from the first build make 8-9 months ago, so they had time to make it better for sure , and the facto they will release a physical edition with both game included on launch means they believe will be a success

@Magician
I read on reddit they said developer said in a interview(I don't have the source) they are pulling out a lot of optimization and performance improvement for switch and after the launch they will apply this improvements to the other ports(pc/ps4...) IF this is real that mean we will have a very solid port
preview with some question answered, confirmed all performance include FOV ec.. are improved first for switch than for other platform(more specific pc version), that make very confident we will get a strong and solid porting
I've played my copy for a couple hours and I'm impressed. Aside from the occasional spike in frame pacing, the game's performance is smooth. The ambient noises that emanate from the horrors of the unknown in the depths below are as unsettling as I assume they'd be. And for the survival genre plebs like myself, I appreciate that the survival aspects can be toggled off.
Allowing me to explore this world unabated by hunger and thirst upkeep.
The polar opposite of say...Green Hell; a survival game that kicks your teeth in.

Good look in’ out! I did (here it comes!…) take the plunge and got in on the sale. Haven’t played them yet but I figured my backlog was really missing a water based survival game! Eh…with Omicron being the new villain on the rise..I could use some more survival skills! Hardy har! Lemme know what u think about them when u get around to it! Cheers!
@Rainz No problem. I can't put the game down. My biggest problem is forgetting to save, save often. It's so immersive you get lost in the world and lose track of time.
