Topic: stuck on the joycon connection screen

hi there!

i thrifted a nintendo switch recently and bought a pair of joycons to go with it since it was missing one when i purchased it. i charged up the switch itself and attached the joycons to be met with the connection screen, so i left it for a few hours to let the joycons charge if they needed to.

it's been probably 4 hours now and there's no difference. i'm not sure if i have to do something in particular with the joycons to connect them like syncing with the buttons along the rail where they connect but i don't even think i could get to the part where i need to do that since i can't bypass the joycon connection screen without hacking into it or something. whoever donated their switch to the thrift store kept the instructions as well and guides online are just not very clear what to do here.

so i'm not sure what to do! the switch must work if the screen is any indicator - so it must be the joycons?

any suggestions anyone has would be great, i'm just hoping i didn't waste $$$ here 😅😅😅

@gaymersquirrel Hold the power button down for like 20 seconds, and it forces a reboot.

Here's a nintendo support trouble shooting page.

Nintendo's support site is pretty good. You can use the search bar to search your issue. You can also plug switch error codes into their search bar to find out what they mean.

@gaymersquirrel did you try pressing the little round button on the joycon that’s in the middle of the side where the joycon slides into the switch body.

@gaymersquirrel I think your best bet is to call nintendo support. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/contact Their phone number is only displayed on the contact page when they are open. They are in Seattle, Washington, US, and handle support for Canada and the US.

Before the pandemic, Nintendo of America's support was surprisingly good. It was downright pleasant, I thought. I'm not sure what it's like these days since I haven't used them in a few years.
