Topic: Stardew Valley - How to pet animals

I'm trying to figure out how to pet my barnyard animals on the Switch. I've tried walking up to them and pressing all the buttons, but the only thing that ever comes up is a window that shows they have zero hearts for me and allows me to sell them.

Everything I read on the internet says to right click them to pet them which is obviously for the PC version of the game.

How do you pet the animals on the Switch version of Stardew Valley?

The same button that opens the little window.

The window only comes up on subsequent presses after you've pet the animal.
