@AccessibleDaydream As one of the few who really didn't stop playing Splatoon 3 while it was being supported (I haven't played any other liveservice-stye games, so FOMO hit me hard with this series), when content stopped I finally hit a level of burnout. That, combined with certain things happening with some former friends within the community caused me to just drop the game for a bit. Now that my mental state is a tad heathier I'm sure I will get back into it. Thanks for checking in!

@CaleBoi25 oh, that’s fair. Yeah, the FOMO with Splatoon 3 has not been great. I’m sure I shared this before, but I actually got so burned out after the very first season, that I literally did not play the game for a year (from Chill Season 2022 to Chill Season 2023), and even then it took me another 6 months to truly find my way back into it (just prior to Sizzle Season 2024), though the rest is of course history at this point, lol.
Before we begin, let me clarify that while favorites are subjective, I will be trying to portray things in an objective light as much as possible!
In 2023, Splatoon 3 had a special anniversary Splatfest. The theme? "Who Would be the Best Leader of Deep Cut?" The options, of course, were Shiver, Frye, and Big Man. At this point in time, Big Man was my favorite character in media; it was the height of my Splatoon obsession, and I was determined to bring him a victory. However, within Splatoon, Splatfests are legally binding--this isn't merely a question of who do you like, but truly WHO IS THE BEST?
As I looked into it, I realized that while I liked Big Man (and, by the way, still do), he did not have really any good leadership qualities. The closest was that he would be willing to listen to those under him, but really that was more due to his timidity and indecisiveness, which are not positive!
So, the remaining options were Shiver and Frye. I am half Filipino, so the side of me that is enamored with Asian culture looked to Shiver first. However.... I was not impressed. While she has a strong personality (which is great for a leader!), she was also somewhat self-obsessed, and tended to ignore the peons around her.
That left Frye. By now I was not feeling good about choosing any single leader--Deep Cut works best as a team, and having an official leader could ultimately be a detriment. Nonetheless, I had to choose. Frye is a headstrong character, which could be bad--she might come up with a plan and set it in motion without ensuring it is the best for everyone. However, I don't think this is the case. In multiple instances, she has shown that she is willing to listen to other points of view: even in the Splatfest World Premier, she was easily swayed by her bandmates' Fest choices. As time went on, she had character growth in that she began to take other's thoughts into account, then use those to build her own opinion on a matter and be able to defend it well!
Now let's compare some smaller things, starting with their RotM boss fights. Shiver has barely tamed Master Mega--and she blames him for any failures during the fight. Big Man simply clones himself. But Frye has a whole school of eels that she not only leads, but respects! She cares for each of them, even when they turn on her.
Upon their defeat, each one will use a smoke bomb to add flair to their exit. Shiver pulls hers out only to fumble it and be blasted away. She tries to taunt the player, but only ends up embarassing herself. Big Man throws his down in annoyance and gets sent flying. But Frye? She slams hers into the Octostomp. She is all about the show, the flair! She wants to stand out in people's minds.
Circling back to Splatfest, check out the Tricolor cheers. Shiver compliments you for being on the cool team, a rather narcisissitic way of patting herself on the back. Big Man acts like a cheerleader, which is totally fine. Btu Fyre not only cheers you and your teamate on, she extends a rallying call to the whole team to do the best they can. It's a combo of Shiver believing in the cause and Big Man believing in you.
Lastly, thoughout the Fests, we have seen Frye wnting the best for everyone. Specifically during the Zelda Fest, she chooses Wisdom because she wants to make the best decisions! Big Man chose Courage, and for good reason, as we have already shown his timidity; Shiver chose Power because of course she did. But Frye truly wanted to better herself!
That's about all I have to say about Frye being the best of Deep Cut, because that is a more objective stance. My reasoning for liking her best overall is far more subjective, so I won't make you read it/make me type it (unless you want me to....)!

@CaleBoi25 YES BRING GLORY TO FRYE! Most splatfests this time around I picked fryes team because of sympathy, however every time I picked someone else’s team I won… I think I’m cursed. One of my biggest accomplishments was winning a 333x battle for Frye in spicy vs sweet vs sour.
Another general question:
After the rank reset, I am back in s rank (currently have my toe over the line to be able to attempt a rank up battle by one point). This got me thinking about soloq though. Since this is the majority of what I play, what is the best way to improve in these environments? Because I typically play support it can be hard to be in positions where it becomes painfully obvious to my teammates that I am trying to help them push, and conversely I can’t be aware when my teammates think they are ready. Awareness develops over time but as I reach the skill ceiling of my main my time would be better spent learning more tactical skills rather than skills like aim and area denial. Anyone have any methods they use to improve or goals to achieve?
Patch Notes dropped, but they aren't in English yet.

Speaking of which, another Twitter user also made Switch 2 Squid Sisters and Off the Hook editions inspired by my mocks. Squid Sisters Off the Hook
I love both ideas here, personally I’d just have the Switch 2 screen and grip for the Off the Hook edition be white to match with the dock. Aside from that I would get an Off the Hook Switch 2 if they announce it ahead of the Switch 2’s release.
That same user recently also made a Deep Cut Switch 2 edition mock.
Guys my friend is on Moonlight. No I am not kidding, they are now officially on the same team as ProChara and ShadowWind and OmegaZaidian (they are the Edit player fyi) (I just found this out a minute ago, they said I could tell yall)

I was like, “Chara’s not on Moonlight!” And then I saw he’s the coach, and things make moresense now.
@CaleBoi25 since you said Hedit, I assume you're talking about Basil? (Or Nolan or Max, ig) how'd you get to be friends with them of all people? That's super cool though!

When I was playing with one of my friends yesterday he said:
Splatoon is the TikTok of online shooters, it’s packed with action but each game lasts a short amount of time.
"When do you get things done? Morning, afternoon, or night?"
The Splatfest takes place April 12th - 14th (11th - 13th for some regions due to timezones) and like the past 2 seasonal Splatfests there's a link in the article to be able to redeem old Splatoon 2 gear making their debut in Splatoon 3.
Hello everyone! A few small personal updates for you:
after everything two months ago with my old team, I may finally be back! Today I played about 25 open matches, before attempting my S rank-up battle for the first time this season, and I wasn’t excessively tilted for the majority of it.
considering that each of the previous seasons where I got the S rank up battle, it was in the list two weeks of the season, getting the opportunity within the first month is huge. Also the fact that my stamina was good for what was basically 30 matches!
at the beginning of the month, I was offered a spot as a sub for a div 10 team called Luna Park, for the duration of the LUTI season. So far, I’ve played with the team once, and I’ll be doing so a second time this Sunday.
I have decided not to go to Riptide, however in the next few weeks, there is a local called Big Dapple in New York City that I may be flying up to for a weekend, which is super exciting.
Last but not least….
I have been offered the opportunity to try out for a div 10 team called Sleepy Squids, who are themselves playing in LUTI this season, and are actually 2-1 out of three weeks so far. I played a rotation of open with the captain today, and the vibes were really, really good.
So that’s what’s new with me and Splatoon. I’m super excited to be back, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
