Topic: Should I Get A Switch Lite For On The Go?

Posts 1 to 20 of 25

I love my oled but have been giving this serious thought as to getting a switch lite solely for when out in public or waiting in doctors office etc. I love my oled but am afraid if I take it with me I public somewhere going to start playing & use the joycons & accidentally forget one somewhere at some point... 🤦‍♀️ Thinking playing the oled in the house & switch lite on the go. Plus the switch lite is all one unit as for a handheld. Also whether I take out the switch oled or lite this question is to any girl gamers: What size purse should I get to hold the Nintendo Switch? Either one. I have to replace my old purse because the zipper is dying out on it anyways so figured I would ask that question~ 🤷‍♀️🤣 Thank you for any help or advice on this subject~ ✌️

A lot of switch owners actually own the switch lite as well, and use just for what you want to use it for, so I would say if you really want to, heck yeah!

Keep your OLED Switch.
Just keep remind yourself to not take off your Joy Cons when playing your Switch on public so you will not forget to bring all of your stuffs back home.
Attach your Joy Cons on your Switch OLED and it will save your money from purchasing another Switch machine.

Owning a Switch Lite will be cool until you hit the 400-hour used mark and those analog sticks become inflicted with drift. There are solutions for drift (cleaning solutions, sending it to Nintendo, etc), but replacing the analog stick yourself is an option.

I'd stick with the OLED. I mean the main new gimmick of the OLED model compared to the original Switch is a better screen and a better screen obviously is only useful if you play in handheld-mode

I didn’t hear they had a oled. Yeah I would say stick with the oled. It’s meant for handheld play.

@Barbiegurl777 I particularly find the screen of the Lite a bit too small (and you'll noticed the difference to the OLED quite a bit not only in sharpness as in the anti-glare). For the on the go I recommend to keep a case with you where you put everything when you're done in order to never forget any parts (even if carrying it in a purse as it will also protect it from falls)

I'd lean towards a no.

I have a Zacian/Zamazenta Switch Lite, and I most often use it for trading Pokémon with myself, and not a whole lot else. I've taken mine out a few times while keeping my OLED Switch at home, but it's more of a hassle much of the time, plus I prefer to play in tabletop mode when the option presents itself (usually at restaurants/cafés), and I can't do that with the Lite.

@Snatcher

Uhh. I'll have to give this some thought~ Yes i do have a oled.

@Anti-Matter

Luckily for me I know which games I have that require taking on & off the joycon's. If I don't bring those particular games with me on outings that more less fixes the problem~ 🤣

@Magician

It will probably take me a while to hit the 400 hour mark personally. As only be using it on the go.

@Balta666

Ironically it being smaller is what particularly drew me to it to fit in a purse lol~ 🤣 My next problem is going to be finding either a shoulder strap or cross body purse that looks nice but can also hold the switch as well. I saw 1 in white at Walmart with flowers on it & even though it looks nice it's going to be prone to getting dirt on it. Had a white purse when younger in the 90's & liked it much smaller coin purse sort of but I noticed it attracted dirt pretty easily. Want to get one in blue or pink so it goes with anything but is also sturdy as well~ 🤦‍♀️ This is going to be a challenge~ 🤦‍♀️🤣

I tried for a while with having my Switch Lite as my main console for out and about and my Switch V2 as a home console with continuous internet access but got frustrated with the whole thing of having to constantly make sure my data was synced between the two devices before I went anywhere. It’s not difficult, just annoying compared to similar situations with other devices (eg iPhone and IPad). It also required some forethought to make sure I did it before I went anywhere, so not good for a last minute grab as I go out. In the end my son loved playing the lite over the one plugged into the TV so I gave him the lite and setting it up as his machine.

I’m on holiday at the moment and took my Switch with me to play handheld (which I very rarely do at home). The bigger screen than the lite is nice but the lite is noticeably lighter and more comfortable to play handheld (but both machines benefit massively from grip cases for extended play sessions regardless).

In the end it just doesn’t make sense for me to have both machines going as the lite would very rarely leave the house aside from holidays and the V2 would very rarely leave the dock as I much prefer playing with the pro controller on my TV. With the mess around of syncing the lite I’m better off just picking up my 3DS for most trips out of the house where I might play or if I’m going away for a while putting the V2 in its grip and a travel case. Don’t get me wrong; the lite is a lovely bit of kit but I rarely want to play handheld when I can look at a tv with a dedicated controller. The lite was my first switch and I had it for about 18 months before getting a full switch so that we could all play on the tv. On the other hand my kids far prefer playing on their lites than on the tv. Go figure.

I actually only have a switch lite because I rarely have access to the tv and the normal switch and SwOLED feel uncomfortably big for me to hold. I have thousands of hours clocked and haven't had to deal with drift yet thankfully, my sister has a lite too and got errr really bad drift. I personally would recommend it only if you plan to often play on the go often, but I really like mine!

Games I'm playing right now:
Tears of the Kingdom - Switch

Kingdom Hearts 2 - PS4
Ace Attorney Trilogy - Switch

Stay with the standard OLED you will be glad you did and why take out the Joy-Cons your thinking too much into this. Alot of sales are standard OLED mostly and some lite. I doubt Lite will get the OLED treatment as seems that's like the 2DS phasing out lifespan. If they do make a OLED lite we would have heard about it buy now but with tech as they are now and upcoming newer OLED with 4K the current OLED will become the standard Switch OLED model.

Honestly it would probably be a waste of 200 dollars. Just stay with the pled if you already have one.

No I am not fixing the typo.

Umm isn't that the whole idea of the Switch? So you can take it on the go as well as at home??

I used my original release-date Lite a lot and it never drifted.

I only replaced it this year because I got a new one as a birthday gift.

Exactly. I really hate the mess Nintendo made with transfer data between systems and doing this dance to share games. Nintendo needs to get with the times and just allow us to do things like Sony and MSFT.

@Gamecuber

Hmm... 🤔 I don't have to worry about sharing the switch with anyone. I'm an only child / millennial. I'm the only one in the house who really plays video games. My dad plays video games as well if it Donkey Kong, Q Bert, or pinball. As for the switch lite I was going to make another nintendo account for it which isn't a problem both in American & Japanese.

@SwitchForce

😂😂😂😂🤣 That's what I thought as well. I sometimes do that with over thinking lol~ 🤣

@Blindsquarel

The lite is in coral pink. In a nostalgic way it reminds me of my pink see through GBA I had years ago. Also pink is my absolute favorite color~ 💖

@Rockodoodle

Not doing any transfer data like the 3ds. That was a nightmare back then~ 🤦‍♀️

I think I'll get the purse first & a Nintendo switch game then maybe get the coral pink switch a little later~ 🥰💖 I'm curious has anyone played the Sumikko series on nintendo switch? I was thinking of trying that series at some point but just curious~ ✌️

@Barbiegurl777 - My daughter has a coral pink Lite and it’s really cute. For some reason, that color tends to go in and out of stock. They can be tough to find around the holidays. I get why you’d want a Lite for on the go though, the full size Switch is a bit unwieldy when out and about in my opinion. Both my kids have them, and both fit in my wife’s medium to large purses in their cases without any issue. They love their Lites so much that they won’t play on the TV with me anymore. I think the screen size really isn’t an issue once you’re immersed in the game.
