Topic: Second OLED has burnt joycon

I am absolutely livid and extremely P'D off right now, I was playing assassin creed 4 and everything was fine until the reconnect controller screen popped up. I looked at the right joycon and I saw a very dark brown spot around the joycon release button (if I could post a screenshotof it here Iwould). I removed joycon and tried to re insert it, but switch wouldn't recognize it. Let me assure you I did not drop, bang, get wet, get extremely cold or hot, or any other type of abuse

Now right now I would be panicking about it happening, but this isn't the first time it has happened. I have another OLED switch that did the same thing to two sets of joycons. Then eventually the OLED wouldn't recognize a joycon attached. So I had to wait till tax refund to afford a new OLED that worked properly and now the newer OLED has done the same.

What in the FREAKING HECK (I would greatly prefer to use shall we say different words) Nintendo? You release a system that costs over $350 (with tax)that burns and breaks a joycon so you have to go spend like $80 on a new set of joycon just for your OLED to eventually do the same to the new joycons until you can go and spend another $350+ on a new OLED.

I really really think Nintendo life should do a YouTube video about this issue.

Honestly if I weren't housing challenged and I had a TV this nonsense would make me go back to PS4 as my gaming system and preference.

Under warranty you need to contact Nintendo to get this fixed. And since no one here can see what happened there nothing more that can be done here.

That is probably just a defect in the system you got. This I the first time I am hearing about this issue. Probably contact nintendo about it.

@blindsquarel that's what I might have thought and it was when my first OLED did the same thing., but two separate OLED units most likely manufactured on different days on different times on different other factors doing the same thing in the same way. Once something happening could be a coincidence, but twice that is the beginning of a pattern

@AppleroseGrace Is there a reason you bought another rather than just getting it replaced under warranty?

@dmcc0 I am shall we say housing Challenged no shipping address and such. I also had lost the purchase receipt. If repairing my first OLED was an option I would have chosen to save $350 plus on a new OLED.

It could be a charging issue. Are you using a third party dock or charger?

@blindsquarel I am using the charging AC adapter provided with the OLED switch. I charge it when I am at work and while playing it when off work I play it while it us charging. It is I suppose possible that playing it while charging it is causing some sort of over heating issue that is being transferred to or through the system and causing the right joycon to receive a form of burn damage

I really really wish there was a way to share a pic of the burnt joycon to see if any of you may have an idea of the cause.I can try to explain what it looks like, it is a white joycon so it's easy to see, around the joycon release button on back of joycon there is a very dark brown mark surrounding the release button. The joycon functions still if I use it detached from the system (tabletop mode) but if I attach joycon to system the system doesn't recognize that it is attached.

I went to both Walmart (where I bought it) and a gamestop to show the burnt joycon and neither employee could explain why or the cause of my issue

Jesus that really sucks. I've never had this happen with the OLED at all. It sounds like a manufacturing defect. I can only offer you my sympathies and suggest you get in touch with Nintendo Support ASAP.

Edit: playing games with the Adaptor plugged in in handheld mode can sometimes cause it to get quite warm, based on what I heard.

The only issue with my OLED I've had is the L button not working on the Left Joycon for no apparent reason but I have since fixed it. I know it did slip out of my hand a couple of times before but it landed on soft carpet so Idk maybe the knock caused a Spring to become loose? who knows.

I doubt it's caused by playing while plugged in - the system would shutdown due to overheating well before any burning occurred in the joycons. The battery in the joycons is probably the only thing that would heat up anyway, and it's nowhere near the release button.
In my mind you'd have to be the unluckiest person in the world to have 2 systems with the same fault - especially one that doesn't appear to be very widespread - so it's more likely to be something common to you. I'm wondering if it could be the power supply at your work being prone to surges or something. Just out of curiousity, what does your employer do?

@dmcc0 I work at a McDonald's I use an outlet in the crew room to charge system while I'm working
