Sam & Max are finally back from the dead in the form of a remastered Season 1 from some former Telltale employees with a smattering of new bells and whistles.
I made this thread for fans old and new to discuss thoughts and swap insults over the dog and rabbity-thing's return and to discuss the game when it comes out.
Really? I wasn't aware of any grievances. I finished the first episode recently, and had more fun than i ever had with the original release. The Wii port was so bad I cried myself to sleep.
Just for the sake of clarity - I don't mind that they changed Bosco's voice actor on principle, but I remember what his voice sounded like before so it does sound wrong to me, and it takes me out of it a bit. Same thing with Carl on the Simpsons, although the replacement voice actor does an almost perfect match in that case.
Well, I'm glad you're okay with Bosco's new voice, but I'm talking about something bigger, and something much more annoying to deal with. It's something I really don't want to talk about, but felt would be wrong if I didn't acknowledge it. I'm talking of course, about the altered dialogue.
This is gonna be a long post.
So Skunkape Games altered a few lines (about 10) in the remaster because they didn't age well or featured references only relevant in 2006. This, along with Bosco's new voice, made people (mainly those in Steam discussions) insufferably inconsiderate and ignorant, making unjustified cries of "censorship." (not to say that Skunkape's not at fault, denying that they changed lines is kind of a jerk move, but that's not the point here)
In my opinion, this is stupid because:
A. It's only a couple lines out of more than a thousand. They didn't flat out rewrite and rerecord the entire script.
B. It's not worth the time to harass people over THEIR personal choice to buy the game.
And at the end of the day, it's still Sam & Max Save the World, the game that mocks politics, cults and the internet all through the lens of a apathetic dog and a sociopathic rabbit.
I'm just angry that this is even a topic of discussion, and I'm tired of having to deal with/see people who won't even bother to understand. For the time being, I'd just like to ignore all that and speak positively about the game, because if you've played it then you'll know it's really good. That's why I made this discussion in the first place
TLDR: Sam & Max misread a few lines during their play and now people are acting like it's the end of the world.
Thanks for elaborating. That's too bad that people are making a controversy out of something minuscule. When things like this happen, personally I almost always sympathize with the creators. It's their product, and they have the right to alter it even if it's a change we deem unnecessary ourselves. I hate busting out this dusty relic, but freedom of speech works both ways. Ironically, Skunkape (love that name) probably made these changes to avoid controversy.
I feel like ever since George Lucas made changes to the original Star Wars people act like they have personal ownership over the content of media they enjoy.

@N00BiSH so i rewatched the trailer for the vr game and, while I don't think it looks as bad as I initially thought, I'm still reserved. It's when Sam says "you have the right to get blown up now, if you don't want to get blown up now, that's too bad because you're going to get blown up now". I could've written that. Sam is usually more articulate. Aside from that line and maybe some aesthetic choices it seems like it could be alright. It'd be worth it just to throw Max around.

@N00BiSH good point. I did chuckle when Max says "please don't hug me".
I'm really hoping that the remasters get physical releases. Preferably something swanky with instruction manuals or digital soundtracks or something. Hopefully the "controversy" doesn't prevent something like that from happening.

@Losermagnet Yeah, I'm personally hoping Skunkape joins up with Fangamer to get some merch going, like the physical versions and hopefully a new version of Surfin' the Highway.
I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle
@N00BiSH that'd be great. Evidently surfin the highway has become quite the pricey collectible, and I can't even find any listings for Age of S&M and The Effigy Mound (although I did pay quite a bit to get those).
