Just picked it up because I am a huge PoP fan and this was giving me the Sands of Time vibe. Music and voice acting are great.
Combat is fun and really opens up as you unlock new weapons. Attacking and evasion are timing based so you can't button mash. Combo system is interesting and kind of freeflow. One big gripe; resolution seems like 540p in handheld. Not too pleased for a game with such beautiful art direction to be muddied up. Screenshots have to be from docked.

@Slowdive I totally feel the God of War comparison. Need to try it out docked tomorrow.

Played in docked mode this evening and it was a big difference. I hope they can patch the resolution to hot 720p.

@Slowdive Yeah, it seems to be better when standing still. It's much worse when moving and when several enemies are on screen. Probably a dynamic resolution.

Game is trying to be different with decent theme, graphics and ok gameplay. But looks like it needed more time in development.

Some jumps don't register well and you fall not because of your mistake but because the game doesn't recognize the edge of the ledge you are supposed to jump onto.

Worst of all I can't continue the game after like 10 minutes of playing, cause early on there is bridge door which you got to trigger with your weapon. You have to aim your weapon and hit at 2 points at the door, game registers one point but not the other and I can't proceed forward. Restarted several times no change. Anyone else facing this issue?

Shame cause the game doesn't feel too bad if not for the bugs.

Have played for 3 hours and have not encountered any such issues.

Very strange, I restarted the game from the beginning instead of the checkpoint and the door bug went away! I had wasted like half hour frustrated with that bug unable to continue but on my second play through the bug vanished and I managed to open the door in seconds. For sure there was an error in the game code when I played first time.

@wishcj I believe you. I have seen some weird graphic glitches on the enemies. Hopefully a patch is on the way soon!

Hi,
I am from India. I want to give a little perspective about the video game scene in India.

The video game scene never took off in India. Never. Back in the 90s there used to be some companies which used to fake the NES/SNES consoles and the cartridges were all pirated because of which some people got exposure to it. And whatever these were, they were way out of reach for the masses. We had our own economic issues because of which they never reached the masses. So, people never got introduced to the "gaming" culture as such.

Our socities have had their own problems - socio-economic, cultural, a stressed middle class and to be honest, the only proper exposure that people have had to gaming is via the mobile phone platforms (free games on google play) and that, as anyone would know, is not the best introduction to video games.

The other thing was that it is always considered a "kids" thing to play games in India. As a grown up, if you say that you play video games they look down upon you. This is mostly a cultural problem.

Therefore, I think that it is massive that an indie game of a decent quality has even come out of India at all. I can only imagine the struggles these people who have made it, in India, would have had to go through to make this a reality.

My one request for anyone reading this would be: if this game even mildly interests you, please buy it. And please buy it at full price so that the devs get the money. I can assure you that I am in no way associated with them, I did not know about this game myself until a day ago and yet it fills me with so much Joy that something like this has come from my country. It is an amazing thing.

@xidipem Thanks for sharing, I was wondering what the culture around video games is in India since I'd never heard of any Indian games before Raji.

Thank you for sharing. I knew I was going to get it long before reading your post, but your words are very welcome. The reviews haven't been half-bad. Seems like a good actiony-platformer type game with some bugs and rough edges. The mythology alone is really intriguing to me.

I took the plunge and bought it! I'm going to be completely realistic in my feedback, and then some other thoughts.

  • The graphics are really cool, especially for a download-only indie title. The cut scenes with the marionette/puppet-on-a-stick style are neat, and the environments have so far been quite varied and pretty to look at. If you want a close comparison, the environments remind me of Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light if you've ever played that one. They both share the isometric view and somewhat similar styling.
  • The controls are... not floaty, actually. Usually games with less polish tend toward the floaty side of things, but not this one. The controls don't exactly feel sharp and smooth but they also don't feel stuttery or super muddy. When swinging the trident weapon, for instance, it does feel like there is a bit of delay, but it's not enough to keep me from enjoying it. You get a fair amount of combat moves to keep it spicy, though enemy animations can be a little frustrating sometimes.
  • Hit detection and tactile feel when wall climbing and rolling are definitely lacking. In my opinion this would be the weakest link in the gameplay so far. There just isn't a feeling of weight, and that can obviously become a big problem in a platformer. I'll have to see how I feel at the end of the game. It's also weird that, in a platformer, you can't just jump whenever you want. You have to be approaching a ledge or at a clear jump location, otherwise you just roll. Also, I encountered some vague and unintuitive platforming sections, even very early in the game. I'm also pretty sure I found a bug where I jumped from a ledge, immediately hit the A button, and was then just floating through the rest of the screen. It went away once I changed areas.

Even with the shortcomings, it's holding my interest for now. When you're in the thick of combat or traveling through some of the more intuitive platforming sections, it doesn't feel half-bad, but you never quite feel like you're playing a full-fat action platformer. Given the info from @xidipem, I would say this is a nice accomplishment for the first effort of its kind.
