@Ralizah
I got the soundtrack as part of the digital Deluxe. It's a separate app on the Switch menu. Same for art book and this "How to Be a Master Detective: A Yokau Furio Case" which is like a text/image based mystery story thing? Kinda cool.
I didnt listen to the soundtrack because I figured I'd hear it in game. But maybe I'll check it out after all.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
It's even got voice acting when you select characters for their art. You can scroll and magnify for high res closeups. It's got characters, storyboard and concept art, creator commentary... more of this please. Gosh dang I'm loving the extra content games put out nowadays. Persona 5 Strikers bonus content app on Switch had a full 2 hour documentary on the music and the recording booth, interviews... I love this stuff.
And that "How to Be a Master Detective: A Yakou Furio Case" text based prequel mini-novel was pretty dang good, too. Took me about 15-20 minutes to read through it slowly, digesting it piece by piece. Apparently it takes place 10 years prior to the events of the game. Nice to have that backstory.
I'm not in a position to compare this game to Danganronpa or AI Somnium Files as I never completed either. But I will say, that so far it's sucked me in way harder than any of those other games did. I think it's the art style, the setting, the characters, the voice acting and the fully 3D aspect. Where AI Somnium Files definitely made a leap forward with production values, Rain Code goes all the way, finally modernizing the genre in a way even simpletons like me can get into it with relative ease.
@JONOFTHEJONS
Hard to say. The art style masks it so it looks better than whatever number it is might otherwise imply. Somewhere in between Persona 5 Royal and Dragon Quest XI S.

Once you get past the prologue (which took a little long for my taste) the game really opens up.
Soon as I saw my base is a freaking submarine my first thought was, "sheesh I hope it doesn't implode". At the same time, how awesome is that. And fitting for a city that never stops raining. Submergence under water seems to be a running theme.

I love Danganronpa so I'm really excited to try this out! I'm in the middle of Final Fantasy 16, and with Pikmin 4 on the way I might not be able to try it out for a while. Normally I still keep my pre-orders anyway and just leave it on my shelf until I'm ready to play it, but this time I decided to cancel the pre-order in hopes of a sale once I'm ready to play. And of course the one time I do that the game is sold out practically everywhere at launch. I managed to get a "temporarily out of stock" copy on Amazon, so it'll arrive eventually at least.
@Cynas
I saw that. Sold out on Amazon for days now. Guess the game is doing better than initially expected with first shipments, so that's good!

Reordered the CE since that was all that was available. Says I will get it next month.

I just finished this, I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this, but it was a 10/10 for me and this is my personal game of the year contender (and yes I've played TOTK) just wow.
I nearly didn't buy it as well cause I didn't think it would be my thing, but in the end Shinigami's design sold me on it, as weeby and shallow as that is, I'm so glad she did.
Finally got a chance to start this after finishing Pikmin 4 and I'm really loving it so far! I just finished the first case, and it for sure feels like an exact mashup of Danganronpa and AI The Somnium Files, a bit more leaning towards Danganronpa.
On the final chapter and I think the best compliment I can give to the production team is...
I no longer want a new Danganronpa... but would love me some more mystery case files!
Soundtrack, visual design, characters, ambience and such, such good writing.
Performance can take a back seat on this one. Very glad I invested the 30 hours into this.
I just picked up a copy of this and I have a simple question if anyone reads this: between the game and the prequel digital book that comes with it, is there a reason to do one or the other first? Or does it not matter?
I just finished up chapter four, and holy cow, that was the biggest twist/gut punch I've seen in a video game in a long time. I thought the first two cases were a little iffy, mostly because they were pretty easy and obvious who the culprit was. But these last two have been great and am looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
