I was reading an article about the switch’s lifespan and it said the power button on the console will only last for 3 years before the power button ribbon cable needs to be replaced.
As anyone here who has a launch switch and plays mostly handheld have issues with the power button or should I stop worrying about this?
@Aar5144 Short answer, I think you're worrying too much.
I've been consuming nintendo news since I got a switch at launch night, and I've never heard of that issue with the power button. My launch day switch still works. Although, by year 4-5, the fan started running a lot harder than it seems to need to(I think the thermal paste inside is drying out - just my guess), but as far as I can tell, my fan issue seems like it's more of an outlier. The console had 2,500+ hours on it. It still runs.
I've also never heard of any common issue that limit's the Switch lifespan to three years. Granted, some people do end up with joycon stick drift. My launch switch stick started drifting on year 4. Nintendo will repair them free, but I just bought a new pair of joycons.
Circa 2018 or 2019 a refreshed Switch console came out, also known as V2 (version 2), has all red box.
I upgraded to a Switch OLED in december. I'm tempted to say this might be the most robust model, but it's only been around for about 8 months. Mine's been great.
Watching tech questions in here, some people have had microSD card readers fail, or wifi hardware fail. Those issues are so unlikely, though, it's probably not worth mentioning.
Even if it were true, I’d say the power button is the one button that gets the least use, and it’s not in a moving part, I’m not sure why would anyone expect the cable to get damaged?
Mines not a launch Switch, but it's from early 2018. Mostly play it docked and turn it on and off using my pro controller. I only really use the power button when I use handheld mode, or the times need to hold it down to completely power it down.
Had mine for four years, and it's fine.

Mostly in docked since I noticed my Switch battery life dropped after almost 5 years owning Nintendo Switch, but sometimes I played in handheld mode for 1 - 2 hours with Airplane mode to save the battery life.
