The online maintenance seems to start 10 minutes before the eshop maintenance so just over 30 minutes left.

Conveniently enough the background song is extended to 30 minutes.

sighs @Kinoen you keep saying that, and it's still not actually true. What features does Xbox Live Gold provide you. Note, this is JUST the paid membership so I'm not going to include anything that is available to non-members.

1. Ability to participate in online multiplayer
2. Access to voice chat
3. A selection of 'free' games (which apparently on XB1 you lose access to now if you don't stay subscribed)
4. special members only deals (generally game discounts)

PSN+ offers all of the above as well for paid membership, plus cloud backup of game saves that requires you to be a member to use

What will paid NSO membership give you?
1. Ability to participate in online multiplayer
2. Voice Chat
3. cloud backup of your game saves
4. access to a selection of 'free' games
5. special members only deals (so far exclusive physical products you can buy and download codes for cosmetics in a game)

You are not receiving a third of the service you would get from Xbox Live Gold. Claiming NSO offers "a third of the service" is spreading misinformation, at best.

There are valid complaints regarding it, but "only getting 1/3 of the service the competitors provide" isn't one of them. Complaining about how voice chat is handled, yes that's a valid criticism. If they're going route voice chat through the app, it should work with more then just 4 games. At the least it should let you connect with your friends to chat regardless of what games you are playing.

Being upset that the special deals aren't discounts but instead look to be members only products to buy? That's a legitimate complaint. Criticize Nintendo for not having a way to send messages to your friends or the continued use of Friend Codes if you want.

But please stop the blatantly untrue "only receiving one third the services" claims. Criticize the actual problems all you want. But don't make misleading claims like this.

I’d let it go, Fae. They’re not gonna like the current service as it is right now. They have access to the same factual information everyone else does.

I'm pretty sure the Img code doesn't actually work. Every time you try using it, all that shows up is the word "Untitled".

EDIT: Either that, or your image hosting site doesn't work with 3rd party image embedding. But something's going wrong. Check your link to make sure it actually is correct, maybe?

The update is now live.

EDIT: The update is what provides the paid online block so until you have to update to play online, you can just continue to play for free.

Finished my update. And it took a 1/3 the amount of time my PS4 & XB1 takes to do an update.

Really, I tried subbing just before starting up Splatoon 2 but the eshop was down.

@HobbitGamer the problem was you used a Google link. Don't use links from Google, go to the source page and get the url there

I guess they will take 3h (so 2h left) until Nintendo Online Service is active

It's active for me. Just kept trying and finally got through on the eshop. Currently playing Super Mario Bros on my switch. What a time to be alive!!

The 6.0 update is available right now. But the eshop maintenance is still underway. As such if you update the Switch to 6.0 right now, you'll lose online play access till the maintenance is finished and you can buy a NSO subscription.
