Not that it matters to us in the west, but I kind of wish those 4-weekend trials that they do in Japan also happened over here. I believe one did happen some time ago.
Last weekend (Oct 24 - Oct 26) was Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2024-2025, next weekend (Oct 31st - Nov 2nd) will be Disney Illusion Island, weekend 3 (Nov 7th - Nov 9th) will be Yomawari & Yomawari: Midnight Shadows and on the last weekend (Nov 14 - Nov 16) will be Hollow Knight.
Anyway, about Disney Illusion Island. I'm not really into Metroidvanias other than Metroid itself, and even then I mostly play Metroid for the lore and characters, not the gameplay.
With that said, more games that play like Rayman Legends do need to exist and Mickey and Friends check the character box of Metroid, so I'll give it a try and decide if I get a copy that's in a supermaeket near my work.
Bonus points for having the game in Latin American Spanish, complete with the original/current LatAm Spanish voices.
I first played Dr. Mario via Dr. Wario in the original Warioware more than 20 years ago, and only after playing Dr. Mario 64 on NSO do I like Dr. Mario.
I first played Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine as part of Sonic Mega Collection more than 20 years ago and only now on NSO do I like it.
Does anyone else think there will be another Tetris 99 Maximus Cup this November or December? Normally there's at least one around this time, and there hasn't been one since August. I just really want an excuse to play Tetris 99 again, lol 🤣. Kirby games are usually shoo-ins for Maximus Cups, so I wouldn't be surprised if Kirby Air Riders gets one in the near future. Potentially also Metroid Prime 4 Beyond as well, since Metroid Dread got one back in 2021.
My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)
5: Animal Crossing New Horizons
Mario Maker 2 Maker ID: MNH-8JB-PKG
Switch Username: Blanc
@Nep-Nep-Freak Pokemon Arceus got an event too. So there are a lot of possible event themes. I assume that team at Nintendo has just been busy with other things (other NSO stuff, the various apps, Switch 2 related stuff), but I'm also hoping we get one or two Tetris 99 events before the year ends.
Finally bit the bullet for the expansion pak. November/December are usually zelda months for me, and i typically replay OoT or MM. I was tired of firing up the clunky wii u or my smaller 2ds for either of those versions. With that said, I started up OoT on switch online and played through the great deku tree. I should be able to get through before MP4 as I know this game like the back of my hand. Probably play MM next month.
I just can't seem to get on with the official N64 controller ergonomically since playing with every controller that came after. I feel like it was designed for someone with three hands! And holding the middle feels way too crammed.
On the other hand I feel like playing with the proper N64 front button layout/similar stick is kind of essential for these games. They're so designed around the two buttons + yellow Camera buttons that it doesn't feel right with a pro controller even if you remap. So this thing is perfect for me!
It's the Switch Online edition and is recognised as a proper N64 controller by the console which surprised me, even changes the sound effects on the app like when using the official pad.
@kkslider5552000 I've been playing Dr Mario NES for the first time via NSO recently trying to complete all levels on Medium, struggling to beat Level 20 but getting there! I don't know if I'll manage that high on fast 😂
Dr Robotnic's Mean Bean Machine is interesting as on the SNES app you have Kirby's Avalanche and they're both reskins of Japanese Puyo Puyo which is also on the SNES app! Personally the Kirby one is the best of these three due to the music and pre match banter
I can’t get far on Dr. Mario without rewinding. I don’t want to put in the time, effort and stress of playing it to get good at it. Although I have played Dr. Mario on N64 for 1000 minutes on NSO.

Puyo Puyo was very popular in Japan, so don’t be surprised that there are multiple versions of it on the NSO.

I think Disney should have their own retro game app like NSO for subscribers of Disney +.
Slight update: Dr. Mario 64 is actually weirdly difficult. I tried playing...I forget what its called, its version of an endless mode I guess (or is there also an endless mode? Its whatever the 2nd to last option out of the single player modes is), medium speed, medium viruses or whatever. Insanely difficult, have failed to play more than 2 or 3 minutes once across like 50 attempts.
@kkslider5552000 I found the controls too slippery on N64 Dr Mario and much prefer the NES one (feels great with NES NSO controller) It's a shame as I like that has a story mode.
Working on unlocking Dr Wario in WarioWare!
@Bass_X0 The Lion King on SNES was a beautiful game but my god it was hard! Kind of weird for a game mostly aimed at children!
I know it was leaked months ago, but I'm so happy to see Rayman 2. Not only is it the one mainline Rayman platformer I've never beaten in any form (Rayman 1 I didn't until the fan remake, which you should all play because its peak), but its one of the defining N64 games in my memory. I heard a ton about this game as it was coming out, lots of commercials and praise, friends who loved it. Honestly heard way more Rayman 2 than I did DK 64 at the time. This is just only below Mario and Banjo in terms of N64 mascot platformers.
Probably really underrated nowadays, because not only was it a big deal on N64, it was also one of like two games that made the PS2 seem more than just a DVD player in the year 2000.
Tonic Trouble I've heard much less great things about but I think its one of those that have never been re-released so automatic W for that being back.
I heard Rayman 2 is pretty good so I'm looking forward to trying it out on NSO. I've not played much of the Rayman series. I've heard of Tonic Trouble, but only kind of recently... I wonder if it's any good.
"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."
Playing: Disney Dreamlight Valley, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
@kkslider5552000
Yeah, Rayman 2 is a fantastic addition. I had the PC version back in the day and because I didn't have an N64 and the household PlayStation was my brother's (who only really picked up racing games) Rayman 2 was my first 3D platformer. Not entirely sure how the N64 version holds up against other releases, pretty sure the PC and 3DS versions were built on-top of the updated Dreamcast version. But even so, fantastic addition
It was also the first game I got for my 3DS. Although in that case it was more because at that point there wasn't much out for 3DS yet. Certainly the 3DS version is also pretty good although I'm not sure I can go back to the smaller screen

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
Wario World is the perfect NSO release, because at the time, Wario World was criticized for being too short and its hard to disagree when it was a 50 dollar game. But as an NSO release, could not be better. It's a pretty cool, unique game for what it is, its by Treasure so that immediately makes me think it might be better than how I remember it too.
