Topic: Quest for Infamy - Rogue Looting

I'm playing with a damn walkthrough in front of me, and there's still stuff that makes no sense. How do you break into the Smith's house? Every walkthrough says to do it when his back is turned. You CAN'T do it when his back is turned, because the "load skull" pops up, and you can't do anything.

The walkthrough tells me to keep trying to break into the library. Both library doors are already unlocked. I've tried about 4,000 to pick the one locked door with no luck.
