So. I've been searching for a solution to the D-pad issue for years. I've investigated nearly every potential option. We have many alternatives, but they all involve compromises and sacrifices.

This thread is devoted to a community-wide effort to solve this issue once and for all, and chart a map to the promised land.

Hori D-Pad Joycon
Amazing D-pad! Perfect execution in Ultra Street Fighter II every time. But no gyro. No rumble. And no wireless. Massive dealbreaker... Or is it? I learned many games actually use the right joycon gyro in handheld mode. Saint's Row The Third, for example, has gyro that works fine with Hori Joycon on left side. As does Resident Evil Revelations 2. No wireless or rumble but, with functional gyro and d-pad perfection, and rumble still coming through on the right side, the game has officially changed. But we shall still pursue that golden chalice. It must exist. It has to.

Horrible D-pad. Can't do squat in Street Fighter. Horrible quality control, too. Amazing in all other respects. But because we're looking for a D-pad solution here, let's cross this one off the list.

Hori Split Pad Pro
I assume it has a great D-pad. But they're bulky, and make compromises. We're looking for no compromises here. Another one bites the dust.

Basstop / eXtremeRate Shells
A reasonable solution. DIY, or buy pre-assembled from Etsy. I have two different ones on order now. But no pivot on these D-pads. So it's close, SO close, but not perfect.

If only there were a way to combine the Hori D-pad from their non-wireless, no-gyro joycon, and use it with the Basstop or eXtremeRate shells. Could such an endeavor be possible? That is the question I pose to you, my good fellow members. That is the question I pose to you...

Also. Added for understanding of the differences between the D-pad approach and the button approach.

I thought for sure by now Nintendo would have released their own version of a D pad controller. Especially after the Lite has one. I see no reason why not. I can’t recall the last time I played a game in table top with someone else and shared joy cons.
