Topic: "Power Menu" / "Power Options"

I just got a switch today and I don't have these "Power Options" I've read about. I've tried to search for this but everything comes up saying to hold the button for 5 seconds and select restart or turn off. When I hold the power button down nothing happens until 15 seconds when it force shuts down. Did Nintendo remove the "Power Options" or is my switch messed up? Is it okay to always shut it down by holding the power button for 15 seconds? Should I be concerned?

That's incredibly odd. It should pop up, I can't imagine what's going wrong.

I feel like I’m the only person with this problem. I’ve tried searching all over but I can’t find any other forum or Reddit posts / websites that discuss this issue. I’m on Software Version 4.1.0.

I'm assuming you're trying to do this in handheld mode...

But if not, power options are only available in handheld mode, if I remember correctly. If you're trying to do it in the dock, it won't work.

@Judi Yes, I'm trying in Handheld mode.

Wait ... are you talking about the power button on top of the Switch (the one with the power sign) or the home button below the Plus button? To my knowledge, the power menu only shows up when holding down the home button for a second or so.

@GoldenGamer88 You're thinking of the quick menu that has sleep mode along with brightness settings and such. The power options menu comes up when you hold the power button for a few seconds, and lets you restart or fully power down the Switch. What the OP's problem is, I don't know...

@Zyrac Ah yeah, that menu. Completely forgot about it as my Switch hasn‘t been shut down for a month or so now. Apparently it ain‘t showing up for the OP, leaving him only the choice of forcefully shutting it down or leave it in Sleep Mode forever.

I don't know about entering through settings. I called Nintendo and they said it was definitely broken. I went back to walmart and swapped it for a new one. Unfortunately I lost me 4 hours on BOTW from yesterday . The new switch goes to the power menu no problem.

@IbbyShred Four hours of progress is nothing compared to what people with other faulty Switchs have lost in regards to save data. I‘d say you were pretty lucky for noticing this problem this soon. Sorry if I sound rude, though. I‘m glad your new one‘s working as intended now.

@IbbyShred That is honest to god one of the most random defects I have heard of in a while. 4 hours lost is a bummer, but you'll forget about that in a couple days.
