I think a Zelda game is a poor comparison for Pokemon. Breath of the Wild maybe, but there aren’t any dense areas in that game like the dungeons in Zelda games. Pokemon is just walking until something attacks you, rarely does the level design play a role other than gatekeeping. Right now the majority of Pokemon is grinding, and it’ll stay that way unless a major new mechanic is added. Thanks to that grinding, my Pokemon Diamond save file is more than double my 100%ed BotW save.
This is something I wouldn’t normally say, but they should really go ahead and reveal more details about the game.
Why? Psychology. I know that what fans want from a console Pokémon isn’t what they’re going to end up getting, and the longer they have to speculate and the shorter time between reveal and release, the less they’ll accept the game that is produced in the end.
Currently procrastinating on: implementing virtual memory and synchronization.
Currently distracted with: Mario Tennis Aces
@MarcelRguez Mario Tennis Aces was revealed in January. Chemical and Nuclear are as fake as it can get.
Mii Mania, Mii Sports Switch, Mii Party Switch, Mii Fit Switch, Final Fantasy XVI, Nintendogs: Canine Experiences, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker & World Explorer, Skyptendo, Kid Icarus: Rise of the Underworld, Donkey Kong: Banana Bonanza, F Zero: Turbo Grand Prix, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival DX, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards HD, New Super Mario Bros.: Back n Forth, The Division 2, Earthbound Collection, Captain Rainbow HD...
Dillon’s Rolling Western 2 is on the list... despite the title having been long announced as Dillon's Rolling Western: The Last Ranger.
There are some amazing titles in this 'datamine' though:
Punch-Out!! Meets MadWorld In Pato Box
Xenoblade Warriors
Rayman's 2D Legacy Collection - (What would even be in this? Origins and Rayman 1?)
Bangs head I knew that sounded familiar. Pato Box was the name of a Kickstarter game, advertised as "Punch-Out!!! meets Madworld" It was the one with the duck. So apparently that isn't a crossover... though I also doubt it's in Nintendo's system with that title.
My girlfriend was done with X/Y after only about 30 hours - so far in US/UM, she's spent over 70 hours with the game, mainly focusing on the story (although she hasn't completed it yet) with plenty of stuff to return to afterwards (which she fully intends to do) ..so it'd seem that, in terms of content, the series is in something of an upward curve at the moment
I usually like to think that I'll be able to spend at least 100 hours with a 'AAA' game - if a game is going to command a 'AAA' price tag, I think it's reasonable to expect a substantial amount of content in return...my girlfriend seems to think that she should easily be able to pass that (arbitrary) milestone before she's done with US/UM (she's already far more satisfied with this game than she was X/Y - anything else from here is a bonus in comparison!) - and if Pokemon Switch can be similarly substantial, I think it'd make for a satisfying experience
As for the Zelda comparison...I played Pokemon Blue before I ever played a 2D Zelda game - when I went back and played a SNES-era Zelda, aside from the combat, it gave me some serious Pokemon vibes. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that Pokemon has borrowed a number of ideas from the Zelda series in the past - and it wouldn't surprise me if they borrowed a few more going forward. If they were clever about it, I think that it would be more-than-possible for them to take a few of the Breath of the Wild mechanics and introduce them to the Pokemon series, without overly compromising what makes the 'core' of a Pokemon game.
I think that, as the Pokemon series transitions to 'HD' hardware, we're all hoping to see a similar leap forward with the game itself...that's not to say that they should just tear up the rulebook and start from scratch - there's no doubt that it should retain its identity - but it'd be nice to see it retain the classic 'core' that makes a Pokemon game, but also see it evolve in to something modern and fresh.
If that means open-world, cool - that doesn't mean that it couldn't also be linear (eg. see GTAV or Skyrim and their 'mission markers' keeping you on track) ..if they revamp the battle system, cool - it's possible to add fluidity to a turn-based battle system ..so long as it still retains that classic Pokemon feel, I'm open to it!
This is my ordering of the main series handheld games in terms of how long I've played them (from most to least), Y had the giant benefit of online multiplayer otherwise it would've been further down the list:
Sapphire
Silver
Y
Yellow
Crystal
Red
Blue
Alpha Sapphire
Fire Red
Diamond
Soul Silver (didn't get far, got bored)
White (didn't get far, got bored)
X (only started a save file to get all the starters on Y)
To be fair they datamined the 3DS eShop and found the icons for Ever Oasis and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowsers Minions before its reveal.
Yeah, and Twilight Princess HD was revealed in the same way, I remember. However, compared to those real datamines, this one is huge, and that among many other things makes me think that this is fake. It's just too much fan-serving. It's as obviously fake as all of those fake leaks that pop up before each E3, claiming that a larger number of fan favorites will show up than is reality.
Also the inclusion of games such as Monster Hunter World, Dragon Ball Fighter Z, and especially Kingdom Hearts III just put the nail in the coffin. There's not a 0% chance of them coming to the Switch someday (correct me if I'm wrong), but the first two were JUST released for the PS4/Xbox One and would need time to develop for the Switch. It has already been confirmed that KHIII MIGHT come to the Switch, but that it would be worked on after PS4/Xbox One release (the release date of which hasn't even been revealed). There should be no sort of datamine info on such a game.
@Harmonie Dragon Ball FighterZ is actually one of the more believable ones. Bandai Namco said they'd probably be bringing it over if Xenoverse 2 sold well, which it most certainly did. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about it sometime around E3, and a port could have started development well before release. Monster Hunter World on the other hand? Chances of that being listed already are almost zip.
