@KaiserGX Tetris is a puzzle game, level design isn't a factor in its gameplay. Pokemon, on the other hand, is an adventure driven RPG so it draws comparison to other adventure driven games like BotW, Odyssey, and Xenoblade so its level design is expected to improve to those levels. The graphics aren't as problematic as much as the level design is a copy/paste job and looks too blocky, small, and samey for a console RPG in the year 2018. That might've been acceptable on the Game Boy in 1996 but standards are much higher here and now.
I understand appealing to lapsed Pokemon fans. But looking at those fans on YouTube they say they dropped it because the jump from Gen 2 to 3 was too much.
How they hell do they expect to jump from Gen 1 to 8 if they couldnt handle that? Who is this game for really?

I am under the impression that the people who found gen 3 "too much" are mostly talking about the whole "your collection of 251 pokemon? heh that's worthless thrash now" thing gen 3 had back then.
@Yosheel No, what I hear directly is "That's too many Pokemon it's hard to keep track".
So...you want to get back in with Gen 8 not realising that if you couldn't handle a new 135 Pokemon being added at once, taking the total to 386 (Of which only 202 were in game!), that you'll now face an additional 700 MINIMUM new Pokemon, of which at least 300 will be in the game.

Ruby and Sapphire literally had less native pokemon compared to Gold and Silver.
In fact, Gold and Silver remained the games with the largest regional pokedex until generation 4. When they were remade.
Oh and to actually complete the pokedex there you absolutely needed the gen one games, because it counts pokemon that are only obtainable there. That's kinda mean in hindsight.
I think it remains the only generation where you NEED a past game to complete a regional dex.
@Knuckles-Fajita
I am a lapsed Pokemon fan, but I have no idea what you're talking about. I definitely don't share that viewpoint that you are attributing to all/most lapsed fans somehow (internet=true syndrome?). Perhaps the lesson here is to not paint people with such a large brush.
@Knuckles-Fajita@Yosheel So based on my understanding, the logic behind Let's Go attracting lapsed Pokemon fans (people who quit after Gen 2, due to various reasons like franchise fatigue, growing out of the franchise, thinking the franchise was "uncool", too many Pokemon, not being able to transfer beloved older Pokemon, etc.) is this:
Lapsed Pokemon fans likely played Pokemon GO when it came out on mobile
Lapsed Pokemon fans hopefully have a Switch at this point to play other games like Mario and Zelda (which isn't really far-fetched when you think about it cause Nintendo has done a great job appealing to the 20+ demographic)
Lapsed Pokemon fans see an upcoming game featuring their beloved Kanto region remade in glorious HD 3D, along with their beloved original 151 Pokemon remade in HD 3D. No other Pokemon which for these people is a huge plus (they "don't have to keep track of all the random Pokemon added through the years")
Lapsed Pokemon fans play Let's Go games on Switch, they realize that "hey, I thought these games became very complex but they're actually not as bad as I expected. The RPGs are still kind of fun!"
Cue announcement of Gen 8 around early to mid 2019. Lapsed Pokemon fans - "hey that wasn't so bad, maybe I can try this upcoming game too!" Most likely the Gen 8 games will have a noticeable jump in graphics compared to Lets Go so that would be appealing as well.
Game Freak profits with a larger audience for Gen 8
This also applies to people who only played Pokemon Go and no other Pokemon RPGs.
Of course this is a broad generalization but I wouldn't be surprised if most lapsed Pokemon fans and Pokemon GO only fans think in this manner.
@rallydefault Notice how I said "lapsed fans" but never put a quantifier? I never said it was all, only in part.
Plus, I do see people say "Oh, now I can get back in slowly because the new Pokemon they introduced were too much for me" when that logic falls apart as Generation 8 will have Pokemon from Gen 3-8 in it!
@Yosheel I had that same debate on PS, about how people "Dont want to catch them all" and I think thats fine. It's a tall order. They were worried about needing to catch 800+ things, especially when they've already caught the original 151 so why do it again (Though those same few now express interest in catching all 151...again....despite not wanting...to do that...)
But that's where I had to tell them that Sun and Moon, and Ultra, dont have a National Dex. As far as those games care, you "Catch them All" by filling the regional Pokedex. Nothing more or less. Not 800, just 300-400. I imagine Generation 8 will be the same.
But apparently that's too much.
Then again, this is the direction Pokemon wants to take and we are along for the ride regardless. No point complaining about it.

To be honest it's not the problem of Catch them All- it's more of that the amount of Pokemon that exist is VERY, VERY not newbie-friendly.
Let me plop a new person to play a new Pokemon game- "hey you only need to remember this 800 Pokemon's type" (well probably around 400 type, but then there's the evolution etc to remember)...
That's a very, very tall order to do. There's reasons why other Mon-games usually end up around 100-150~ ish amount per game. (Heck, even lower than 100 at times).
(Some part of me rather want Gamefreak to stop making too many of new Pokemon per gen, maybe 10~ or so to prevent this from keep happening, but I think most Pokemon fans will be angry over it... so yeah).
Your post definitely makes it seem like you are referring to all lapsed fans. It may not seem it to you because you're the one who wrote it/are arguing to defend yourself, but it definitely does to someone coming in with a fresh perspective.
Regardless, nothing worth getting snippy over. I can tell Pokemon is something very close to your heart, so keep on truckin'.
There's a few ways this could go:
1. Both Let's Go and Gen 8 do very well - The 2 main series coexist
2. Let's Go does very well but Gen 8 doesn't do too well - Let's Go replaces the traditional style
3. Let's Go doesn't do too well but Gen 8 does very well - No more Let's Go after this year's games
I think point 1 is most likely but point 2 is more likely than point 3.
@rallydefault Look, after XY it's amazing I care about this series. I just want to see it get back on track more than anything to do with my personal opinion.

@Grumblevolcano Except the thing is, the Let's Go games are clearly a last minute cash grab to ring in that fanbase (it's still alive and well to be sure, but it's fallen from its crazy launch months where it was like the 90's all over again). The traditional games are what's keeping people coming.
The two IPs coexisting? Sure I can see that, especially since now that there's newer gens in Go it gives them leeway to remake more games in the Go style without alienating those more casual players. But Let's Go outright REPLACING the true main series? Not a chance.
@Grumblevolcano If let's go outright replaced the main series, the amount of fans they'd run off who'd otherwise probably buy the Let's Go games anyways (myself included) would be unreal. For those of us who see the Let's Go games as nothing more than a spinoff, removing the main franchise would be a terrible move.
And besides which, the main series games have very consistently sold ~16 million for the first pair of games in the last 5 generations straight, so the core series is quite healthy right now. I highly doubt that the gen VIII games won't at the very least come close to that if they are a significant step up, and they have the potential to actually push past that number for once.
Gen 3 > Gen 6 > Gen 2 > Gen 7 > Gen 1 >>>>>>>> Gen 4 > Gen 5
Note the Gen 7 position is just a guess based on what I've seen of the games. I'll actually get around to playing them with getting a replacement console if E3 2018 isn't impressive on the Nintendo front.
