So uh... I think the demo confirms the split timeline theory. So not even Pikmin 1 is canon?
Anyways, weird yet enjoyable story things aside, this game is great. Limiting total Pikmin off the bat actually works well as a nice accessibility thing for new players while simultaneously making exploring more rewarding. And getting access to Pikmin without their onions is actually really cool, and means you need to be all the more careful.
Started and completed the Demo there in just over 2 hours and had a great time! It certainly took a while to get going which I wasn't the biggest fan of, but everything else from the visuals, gameplay and new additions compared to the previous games (particularly in terms of the new perspective) are all really well-done. Won't be grabbing 4 until I play through the previous three games first but I can already tell this is going to be something that sucks up so much time from me once I eventually get around to it, excellent stuff.
Also I concur with @link3710 with the statement Oatchi is indeed a very good boy.
I'm a gameplay first guy, but I do value quality visuals. It enhances the experience, if the gameplay is already on point. And the gameplay in Pikmin 4 is so incredibly good.
Pikmin is good regardless. I was just playing Pikmin 1 HD and despite having visuals 3 generations removed, it's as fun as ever. But it is nice when a game also has beautiful graphics. It adds a certain charm to the experience.

It's actually really impressive how far Nintendo has come graphically speaking.
Wii U was their first foray into HD gaming. When Pikmin 3 released, I thought it was a good looking game (and I still do, it looks nice). But here we are one generation later, with hardware roughly equivalent, and yet Pikmin 4, visually, looks like a generational leap over Pikmin 3. It really does.

God bless Miyamoto. I may be a little harsh on him sometimes for directions chosen, but Pikmin, to me, is by far the greatest contribution the man has made. Yes, he invented Mario and Zelda and many others but, those games are currently created by others. The newer masterpieces (like Zelda BotW/TotK and Super Mario Odyssey) are thanks to Aonuma and Takahashi. As for Miyamoto's contributions to my personal gaming experiences, Pikmin is the chef's kiss.
No other game he's made offers such depth, such charm and such unique gameplay. He absolutely nailed it. To me, one of the great injustices of our time is the fact Pikmin is not more highly regarded among the fanbase.
Knocked out Day 2 in the demo, got Ice Pikmin, 2 upgrades, mapped custom shortcuts to Commands which makes the gameplay that much more streamlined, and trained Oachie to be able to "Go to Base" and "Come Here".
This game is something really special.

I was a bit on the fence about Pikmin 4, but playing the demo has changed that: I can't wait for for it now! It looks great, plays great and is just...well...great.
I love how you can move your base now. Riding the pooch is fun. I'm loving it.
@k8sMum
Were you not a fan of previous games, or had you just never played a Pikmin game before?
Either way, it's good to hear the demo is bringing people in. I heard complaints from long time fans it doesn't just start with the 1st day. But I knew what they were doing- providing a nice on-ramp for new players. Pikmin isn't as simple as some make it seem, despite the cute aesthetics.

I've played all of them and really liked them. But I wasn't keen on just more of the same old same old. I'm having to be a bit more careful which games I spend money on. Pikmin 4 has blown them out of the water, imho. Gonna be day 1 buy for me.
I've seen complaints about that plus the hand holding at the beginning, but I think they did a good job of easing new players in whilst keeping it interesting for those of us who have played the earlier games.
Anybody else obsess over keeping every single pikmin alive? I know it's not a big deal but i feel guilty if i let any die and tend to restart levels alot.
@Truegamer79
Nah. Game would be absolutely brutal if you couldn't let Pikmin die. They're an infinite resource so it doesn't really matter. Pocket Poseys grow back, so you're never gonna run out permanently.
I know some hard-core Pikmin players do no-death runs, but they've gotta be like, in the elite upper echelon skill set.
Now, if I lose an unreasonable amount in a massacre or something, I might replay a day. Though in Pikmin 4, it also gives the option to rewind time. Massive QoL there.

@W90WBA There is a little overlap between games, but the newer games are definitely meant to be played stand-alone with their own plots. If you've played Pikmin 4 demo, you might have like 3 minutes of less confusion if you've already seen the Pikmin universe, but I don't think it makes a ton of difference.
Finished the demo. Had 1420 sparklium when I found another cave at the sunset buzzer. I had red, yellow and ice Pikmin. Hopped in, found a survivor, got a ton of treasure and finished the day with like 1800 sparklium.
I was so sad that I couldn't go back to base and check out what unlocked. And now that I have yellow Pikmin I wanted to more fully explore the area.
I'm dying to play the full game now.
