@Ralizah You might want to blur out the code unless you used it, since someone might take it or something.

@Ralizah Sorry! I think this might be the only topic I’ve created...

Damn, that steel case collector’s edition is pretty...

@VoidofLight Not an issue.

But I appreciate the heads-up, regardless.

@TheFrenchiestFry @Krull I'm hoping someone puts the PS4 steelbook up for a reasonable price at some point on Ebay. I was tempted to preorder it too for that exact reason, but eh.

Been playing it for a while now. Loved P5 on my PS4 back in the day. And I agree with what most people are saying, this doesn't feel like a cheap spinoff at all. But I have to admit, I'm having a hard time even getting what's happening during combat. That might just be me, as an old, stressed out adult, but I find it kinda confusing, I don't feel like I can properly use a certain tactic in a given moment, because everything's just so much... I may just need a bit more practice. But I don't have that much time nor drive left in me.

Anyone else experiencing a similar thing?

Besides that, which isn't the game's fault at all, I think this is a genuinely great game.

Sadly it seems as though this is tanking on Switch. Never once cracked the top 30 in the US eshop. Looks like Altus was into something when they refused to port P5.

@JustMe Thank you for the explanation, Im still stumped though. I don't think I can consciously use and aim all of that spells. It's just too much to remember and with the (fantastic) ways of using the environment too and screen prompts flung at me at lightspeed I just feel like I'm overwhelmed.

I had to take a break from Strikers and play something "slower" again. Octopatch, Two Point Hospital and even that Hyrule Warriors (the first one) game make much more sense to me. Also, maybe it's just me, most settings and the shadows (of course they are) are so dark, I have a really hard time keeping an overview.

I might just be too old, as I said, but that's a shame because I love the lore, the characters and I loved the first game.

@Rayla Of all the "Warrior" Spinoff games I've played this is by far the most diverse. It really feels like it's independent game. I don't mind the Warriors formula at all if it's mixed up enough.

It was #30 on the eShop the day it released. Not sure where its at now. and it has held pretty tightly behind the PS4 version on Amazon, with PS4 topping out at #40 and Switch at #60. They've fallen since, and Switch version fell out of the top 100, but it's holding its own really well, especially for being on a platform with 2/3 the install base and without the advantage if the main series fanbase.

If anything this will ensure Altus does consider Switch for any future projects, if they haven't already done so.

It's a top seller on Steam.

Between this and P4G, Atlus is going to definitely be putting more games on PC. And with Sony putting some of their own games on PC as well, it's likely to be the first platform they branch out to with new main series entries. They already branched out with P4G, after all.

I'll be surprised if Persona 6 isn't a PS4/PS5/PC release.

I just re-read my original thoughts on this thread and I am so happy I was wrong.

I’m on the second jail and loving every second. It’s so much deeper and more like full game rather than a spin off than I could have expected.

@JoeDiddley
It really is.

I’m playing now. Was bouncing between Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter Rise demo, Mario 3D World, Pyra/Mythra in Smash and Persona 5 Strikers today, and Persona is the one that just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. And those are some CHOICE games. And yet even still, Persona 5 Strikers grabbed my attention the longest (I’ve put 30+ hrs into MH already and am just waiting on new demo and full release, otherwise that game would’ve gotten all the attention).

I feel like I might say something incredibly offensive and controversial... I’m not sure if I want to say it... but I’m gonna say it.

I think I might like this game more than the main series games [shields face from thrown 🍅]. Obviously that opinion isn’t set in stone right now. I need to play more. But I really really really like the combat. It fits the game so well... and as much as I love the turn based combat in persona, I really feel like this action combat almost suits it better! Crazy, I know. It moves at a faster pace also which is a huge plus. It is missing some of the aspects I like in the main series such as the time management which really dives deep. So there are definitely certain things I like more in the main games, but overall I feel like I’m enjoying myself more with this game than I ever did with Persona 5.

Yet if you told someone they should play this game, they’d likely shrug it off and say something along the lines of, “nah, not unless they bring Persona 5 first” which is incredibly unfortunate, given I think this game just might be more enjoyable. And even if 99% of people still like the main games more or would like the main games more if they tried both, it’s still really really good, to the point anyone saying they wanted Persona 5 on Switch, and isn’t playing this game, makes absolutely no sense to me.

@JaxonH I haven't played it yet, but having played Persona 5 and Persona 4, considering the gameplay I've seen, and how much I liked the combat in Hyrule Warriors and Age of Calamity, I'm very confident I'll enjoy the fast, frantic action a lot more than the slow turn-based combat in 4 and 5.

I'm not opposed to turn-based gameplay but I'd prefer real-time combat any day. Dragon Quest was fun because at least in XI S you could move your character around while everyone else had their turn. And with turn-based combat there's bound to be ridiculously OP strategies, that are very simplified in real-time.

@TheJGG
I like both. There’s way more real time combat games I enjoy, but I’m still a fan of the classic turn based combat. Final Fantasy X, Bravely Default 2, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI S... it’s all good stuff.

And I’m never in favor of taking a turn based franchise and permanently changing it to real time like what they did with Final Fantasy. It changes the identity of the game, all for the sake of pandering for sales. Which, if you only care about selling as many copies as possible, you’re going to end up like EA or Ubisoft designing a game ground up through focus studies and social media trends.

But, i’m all for a spin off using action combat. And this is one of those rare cases where I feel it genuinely works with the source material just as well as turn based. I think part of it is the fact they’ve integrated so many of the core aspects of the turn based combat system into the real time combat.

@JaxonH The turn-based combat of Persona 5 is good but IMO was never the selling point of the game. On the other hand, with Musou games generally the combat is (partly) the selling point. So I'm not really too surprised that you enjoy the combat in this more. Personally, I could take the combat either way. I really like the turn-based combat of the main series but I could see this combat working in more titles.

However, I don't think I could ever think this title is as strong at the original Persona 5. The original just has so much more depth - particularly in the time and relationship management - that makes the series enjoyable to me.

Despite that, I'm absolutely blown away with this game so far. It's really gone above and beyond what I expected a Musou spin-off to do. It truly feels like a sequel to the main game.

Ya, it may have to do with the fact I’ve played a good chunk of Persona 5, so a lot of that depth it offers, I’ve already experienced, and this just adds on top of it.

Then again, it may just be that this is a really good game. After all, it was Persona 4 Dancing that got me into the series. And the story in that game wasn’t great. But I loved the characters. I ordered a Rise Kujikawa 1/7 scale figure after I platinumed that game as I was so into the characters.

If that game could get me into Persona, how much more then could this game get new players into the series. People really should give this game a spin, whether they’ve played Persona or not (especially those who haven’t played, since I believe this game is worthy of getting new players into the series).

I've always just sort of tolerated the battles in P5 and the time management stuff was never my favorite,q but building relationships to unlock social scenes and perks was something I loved about the main games that isn't in Strikers. I'll miss that.

BUT, cutting out the turn based combat for action combat is a HUGE improvement for me. It's like the best of both worlds, almost.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I'm honestly amazed you managed to get into the series with P4D! I started with 4 Golden and, despite being in love with that game, I felt compelled to skip through the story of P4D (the game itself is pretty good though). All the more power to you for that!

But it goes to show where one of the strengths of this series really lies IMO: it's characters. You can put them in any number of situations and I'm sure you'd get a decent game.
