@Budda I actually didn't realize the soundtrack was re-done.
looks
Holy crud, this sounds way better than the GC version I played recently!
@Kidfried At least in the English localization, they don't hide her being transgender, which is all I really want. It's a big aspect of her character arc. I'm proud of Nintendo for actually tackling this and not erasing her identity again.
Man I loved the soundtrack, then went back and listened to the originals... what an enormous glowup. The big band style works wonders for the Mario identity.
@jedgamesguy I honestly think they did a great job with the new OST! They definitely went all-out for it. The original tracks are awesome as well! Glad both options are available because they’re both really good, and I’ll probably be using both quite a bit.
Right now I’m mainly using the new one, however once I decide to go through the game fresh again I’ll probably use the OG soundtrack.
@Joeynator3000 I can get why some people are frustrated, however most people saying that seem uninformed.
This is pretty obviously a remake, and a really good one at that. This is some of the best graphics for Switch and with a pretty high resolution. This probably can’t run stable 60fps on Switch without major compromises. The game looks great at stable 30fps! That’s what a lot of Nintendo modern games run at anyways. It’s not that it runs worse, just Nintendo a lot of times prioritizes overall graphics, resolution, and stable framerate over high framerate and lower everything else.
@Ralizah
I’m playing through it and I have a different take. I thought the line when Vivian said she remembered she was their sister and not their brother was leaning more to that she wasn’t the one responsible for them as usually brothers are supposed to be the responsible ones and beldam was always saying it was her fault every time something went awry. Just my take on it.
@GameOtaku That's certainly a... unique interpretation. Seems pretty circuitous given the character being transgender provides a far more direct and textually supported meaning to the line, though.
Is this your first time playing TTYD?
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah
Yes. See I understand it more that a brothers role is to be the more responsible hence why why she gets so much crap then she says “I remembered I’m their sister not brother”. From experience brothers usually get the short end while sisters can get away with anything forcing it on their brothers.
Yeah I'm still confused about that whole thing, wished Nintendo would just flat-out say what Vivian is themselves and shut everyone up, lol. I'm just gonna stick with her being female and her sisters are just terrible like before. lol
Also, Riverside Station's battle theme gives me Cuphead vibes, just saying. lol
@Joeynator3000
All the battle themes (for normal enemies anyway) seem to be the same song but with varying instrumentation depending on what area you’re in. It’s a nice touch.
@Joeynator3000 There's really no ambiguity whatsoever. The character is a male that presents as female. This was the case in the original Japanese release, and it's the case now.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@GameOtaku she doesn’t say she “remembers” she says she “realizes”. As in, at some point, she came to realize that she feels more like a “sister” (a girl) than a “brother” (a boy).
I don’t think this family dynamic you interpret it as is very common at all: usually when there’s one sibling that gets the “short end of the stick”, it’s usually either the eldest or the youngest sibling (be it brother or sister), not necessarily the random male.
Edit: oh ah yay I finally got my copy of the game!
For some reason I keep trying to use the partner ability with the c-stick.
right, but if Nintendo really can't cope with doing a remake of a 20 year old game and having it run at least as well,
then it should have been merely ported and cost less.
I find it both amusing and sad that Mario never replys to Peach's e-mails in TTYD, even leading her to ask Tec if he got them.
I know he is a silent protaganist in these games, save the pantomime acting and wahoos, but...c'mon! He can be bothered to rescue her, but not reply to her e-mails. Lol.
I have an idea for the TTYD successor! How about a day/night cycle?
I know the idea has been explored a bit already, but for instance it’s always day at Rogueport. Imagine if it could turn night?
Maybe the NPCs during the day could be different from the NPCs at night. Using Rogueport again as an example, the normal NPCs are out during the day, and then when it turns night some of those characters have gone home/left and some different NPCs are out and about, probably more sketchy than the ones during the day. Maybe even a sketchy store is available only at night?
Just a thought! I’d love to see this, and I think it’d be a great gimmick for the next game.
@MarioVillager92 True, that was a cool gimmick in MP6! I believe that was also a gimmick on that Haunted map from Mario Party Superstars (I think originally in MP2) which was fun.
It’d be awesome if a Paper Mario game explored this idea more, each area could essentially feel like 2 areas!
@PikminMarioKirby Oh you're right, Horror Land from Mario Party 2 had that feature too. MP6 was a more memorable example for me since I played that first, lol. It'd be neat to see a Paper Mario game explore that idea in some way... there's been a good amount of other games that have a day and night cycle too.
