Hi, first time posting here.

I can't find anything about this game.

Thx in advance

@Lis95 I can't find much either. It's almost like their hiding the game until launch.

I'm sure we'll hear more new things about it soon. Some of its Launch Dates is pretty close now. They're probably just preparing for that right now.

@Lis95 The only thing they've shown off is gameplay footage for more powerful platforms (PS, Xbox, PC), which IGN has posted on youtube (like flying on a broom around the open world, which does look cool.). But, they haven't told us much. Nothing has been shown for the Switch, which leads many to think that the switch isn't powerful enough to run the game, and that it's going to be revealed as a cloud-only game for the switch. Cloud-only games on the switch have never been well recieved, or reviewed, usually due to their less than ideal performance, and the fact that you don't really own a cloud-only game. I've got a feeling they won't reveal anything for the switch until after xbox/playstation/pc has released.

The details of this gameplay footage don't say what platform this footage is from.

@WoomyNNYes Yeah, I'm very curious to learn about the Switch version. When I first learned this game would launch on there, I planned to pick it up on there. If the game has an On-Par to Good Launch, I'll pick it up for PC in the meantime; A Cyberpunk 2077-like Launch, will wait for Switch, regardless of the outcome for that Launch

I really hope that's not the case for at least one Regions. JPN Versions tend to have some physical copies with the full, complete games on the cartridges, while USA, EUR, ASIA, etc. Versions require you to download the other portion of the game that couldn't fit on the cartridge with smaller amount of storage. With JPN Copy, you can just cut the Wi-Fi on your Switch, pop the Cartridge in, Start Software and "Jump In" (Ironically Xbox's old slogan), just like the old days. Wonder if Nintendo Switch might be the last console to get Physical Copies like that. Hopefully there will be at least one Region Release that has this for Hogwarts Legacy.

One big thing I've been curious about for Hogwarts Legacy. It had crossed my mind when I heard about the delay for the Switch Version. Is it at all possible that Hogwarts Legacy will have Gyro Controls for the Switch?? I think that would be an interesting feature to have. And I'm guessing if it did, it'd probably be an exclusive to the Switch. I don't know if Xbox or Playstation controllers have a Gyro to that extent or not. I just haven't played any games on there that had required its use.

@Nahr_Alma I thought PS4 & PS5 had gyro in their controllers, developers just haven't utilized it for games of those consoles. I know PS4 had gyro. I'm assuming PS5 does too. Xbox, I'm not sure about.

@WoomyNNYes Yeah, there's some to it. I'm just unsure the extent of its capabilities, because of that very reason you mentioned; that it hasn't really been utilized fully. Could be some that I'm not aware of yet. I don't know. Would be a lot of fun to have the option for Gyro Controls for Hogwarts Legacy though. I know there's some out there who aren't into that as much, so if the feature does happen, best to have an option to toggle.

Frankly, I'd seriously rather it look terrible than have it be Cloud-based lol. In this case for me, Graphics can be a major plus, but Gameplay is much more crucial. That way progression through the game will be smooth. I've enjoyed a fair amount of the Harry Potter/Wizarding World IP, especially learning more about the deeper parts of the Storylines & Lore, and even some of the Fan Theories. If the game is just Cloud-based for the Switch, then I'm just gonna avoid buying it on there altogether. I'll either pick it up on Steam, or I'll listen to Content Creators break down the depths of the Characters, Dialogue, Plot, and so forth. You're both probably right though. It probably will end up Cloud-based, like Resident Evil 8/Village was. We'll see how things go.

I'm just gonna wait for Switch Up's review before I make any decisions.

Do you have any examples where this has been the case? Because I am not aware of any, and unless you can corroborate this claim with evidence, I am going to say (perhaps at the risk of being presumptive) that this is not the case. Incidentally, Asian cartridges are usually identical to the Japanese (except in rare cases, such as the Atelier Trilogy releases).

My collection is almost entirely physical, and I regularly import Japanese/Asian releases (especially in cases where the West are deprived of a physical release), and I have not encountered any release where it has been the case where the Japanese version has had a complete-on-cartridge release while the international release imposed a mandatory download (not including any Japan-exclusive physical releases where DLC is included within the cartridge, of which there are only a handful anyway).

DOOM, Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, Spyro Trilogy, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, L.A. Noire, you name it, the Japanese releases all require a download as well as they all use the same build as the Western release.

@Kermit1 Yes, but I'm pretty sure there were people who were "confident" in the GTA trilogy before it came out too.
Just going to wait until the inevitable day 1 major patch is released that makes the physical completely pointless.

@Nahr_Alma I'm hoping it has motion controls for spells aswell, was one of the best features of the Harry Potter games on Wii like order of the Pheonix.

I was thinking that part of the reason for the delay was to properly implement the motion controls, after the developer said they were taking full advantage of the Dual Sense why wouldn't they do the same for the Joy Con? Its practically begging to be a wand.

Reading through the article with the developer saying they feel confident with the Switch version and that they are working to fully optimise for each platform makes me further think this might be the case.

The Switch version is confirmed to have a mandatory download anyway.

@Sisilly_G Yeah, so the physical cartridge is pointless. There goes my "confidence" in it

@Bunkerneath : Not entirely. You can at least back up the update data to another console, so, that's still better (in my view) to an account-locked digital purchase, but this news has dampened my enthusiasm for the game, and unless it's released on PC via GOG (which is unlikely), I'll probably skip this, unless the Switch release is available for dirt cheap at some point (which is doubtful).

The Switch physical release is also delayed, so, there is the very remote possibility that they might have a change of heart and the physical edition won't require a download after all, but I won't hold my breath.

Now, the "deluxe" releases are well and truly useless, especially when the "deluxe" content consists of rubbish cosmetics that are locked behind a download code.

@WoomyNNYes @Nahr_Alma Yeah, PS4/PS5 have gyro controls. Many PSVR games use gyro. But also games like Horizon, God of War, Days Gone and The Last of Us 2 have gyro aiming, it just isn't advertised much. Many third party games don't often bother with gyro aiming unfortunately.

Xbox doesn't have any gyro unfortunately.

@Tony_Fuel @Nahr_Alma So far, all the gameplay I've seen shows what looks like a lock on & combo system that doesn't need aim. As players walk around, you see npc's get highlighted in white by what looks like a lock on system. It reminds me of the system Ubisoft used in Assassin's Creed, or even similar to the lock on & combo system in Breath of the Wild. Has anyone seen any Hogwarts Legacy gameplay that requires aim that might benefit from motion/gyro control?

And even when they do, they sometimes manage to royally screw it up.

For example, gyro aiming in the GTA Trilogy is completely broken in handheld mode, but it works a treat in tabletop/TV mode...
