I dont see anything for a New Super Mario Bros Switch game this year. I know we get a 3d mario game at the end of the summer slash winter but that is not a 2d bros game. Like Super Mario Bros U and Super Luigi U was released early in wii u lifetime then they got super mario 3d world. Dont we get a portable 2d version New Super Mario Bros Switch before the 3d version at the end of the summer.
I think the "New Super Mario Bros." series pretty much ended with the release of Super Mario Maker. While a Switch version may seem like overkill (as it's already available on two other platforms that are arguably better suited for this kind of software), it will likely fill in the gaps mid-year or be released a little prior to the Holiday period (as Nintendo would likely want Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to shine).
If Nintendo are presently working on a new entry in the Super Mario Bros. classic series, then it is likely that it will have a new art style, or contain new gameplay mechanics and gimmicks to differentiate it from the very safe "New Super Mario Bros." series. Perhaps it's time for Super Wario Bros.?
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Maybe I am in the minority here, but I would absolutely welcome another New SMB game or a similar new game in the classic 2D series. I have always loved side scrolling Mario and find the games to be very addictive and fun to play. They are the reason I am a huge platformer fan today!
I don't want another New SMB game. But Mario Maker? The Switch is the perfect platform for it.
Not quite. The Wii U was perfect for it due to dual-screen support; a brilliant feature that is lost in transition to the Switch, where you will either need to settle for touch-screen controls without a TV, or traditional controls with a TV. The Wii U was hands-down the best platform for Super Mario Maker. The only way it can be bested is if somehow, a second Switch unit can be used in lieu of a Gamepad, but I don't think that such a feature will ever be supported considering how expensive a second Switch unit would be.
OR… what would be even better, is if Nintendo releases a Switch Gamepad at some point (functioning in a similar manner to the Wii U gamepad, where the Switch streams content to the gamepad, without the processing power and other features necessary for the Gamepad to run as its own console). Surely they can pull this off for about the same cost as the Joy-Con pair (which costs a ridiculous AU$119 in Australia). At some point, the 8GB Wii U console bundle with Skylanders cost about AU$180 here. Surely they can pull off a standalone Gamepad-style controller for $100 or less.
Hope they don't bring the series back I'd rather have a new Mario Maker tbh

They'll definitely release one at some point (even if it's a slightly different art style etc.). Even if they don't want to make another we'll get a HD collection a few years down the line. Those games sold tens of millions, they're some of Nintendos most successful ever games (& hugely underrated).
As others have mentioned though - expect Mario Maker Switch first. It's a more exciting prospect with a lot of room to grow.

I'm the opposite. Although I prefer a new DK more than any other 2D Nintendo platformer. Still, as simple and as basic the NSMB games were, I enjoyed them more than Mario Maker. I don't enjoy making my own levels I discovered, I just want to play well-made Nintendo levels. I admit that some of the user-made Mario Maker levels were pretty neat, I never felt they lived up to the quality of the levels in their own games. On top of that, filtering through all the rubbish levels in SMM got old after a while.

The only reason the Wii U was arguably better was because it was easier to edit the game while someone else tested it. But as a single player game the Switch is just as good as the Wii U. If you were creating a stage on the Wii U you were not looking at the TV. And while it loses the quick prototyping with a second player that the Wii U had it does gain portability. So the Switch isn't really worse than the Wii U for Super Mario Maker IMO. It's different sure but it's not worse.
But compared to the 3DS the Switch is definitely a better platform for the game. Even ignoring the gimped version of the game the 3DS got. The only way to have someone test a level on the 3DS is to physically hand the game over. On the Switch it would be possible for me to edit the stage using touch controls and then dock the system so that the other person (or victim) could play the stage on the TV. The 3DS couldn't do that. Also the 3DS can't load games nearly as quick as the Switch can which is really important for a game like Mario Maker.
It could well be the first Mario to appear on the system will be for the VC (whenever that happens...), will be an oddball choice. Remember when the Gameboy Advance came out and the first re-release it got was a port of SMB 2?
There is some whispery rumors of a Mario Maker sequel or "Mario Maker Deluxe". I just hit 1300 hours in the original Mario Maker so I really hope it happens.
The only downside is it would pretty much force a pro controller purchase. A d-pad is so essential for the game.
Well, for most people..., there are a few people who are amazing with stick and swear it makes mid-air shell jumps easier. Liars...
There is also the issue of level creation only being possible in portable mode, unless they implement a little big planet style control scheme for making courses with just a controller...

I really hope this is true! I think it's perfect for the Switch!
Dang, Nintendo can't win. They launch the Wii U with NSMBU and people dump all over it, but when the Switch launches without a NSMB we suddenly want one again lol
