Topic: Nintendos eShop strategy?

Hello there. I've made once a thread hear discussing the premium one has to pay in the eShop wanting to have the digital version of a game. Depending on the game, the premium can go from 10CHF to 30CHF(!) here in switzerland.

1 Swiss franc (CHF) = 1.009938 U.S. dollars = 0.862936728 Euros

I wanted to buy Mario tennis Aces and saw the asking price of 77CHF in the eShop where as one could spend 65CHF to get the physical version. Now comes the fun part: You can buy a game key (in my case good old trusty WoG.ch) for 65chf aswell!

If i'm not mistaken, the keys are provided by Nintendo, so has anyone a clue wtf Nintendo is doing? Why is there such a crippling premium in the swiss eShop? Still after all this time no one is reporting anything about this unfairness.

I'm glad that i can just buy a key now to for the same "normal" price in a store, but still, it's stupid that the on-device store is overcharging so much.

Its all to do with Global Economics. Swiss get paid a higher rate on average than most places, which means costs are up.

This is why the South African eShop is one of the cheapest. Lower than average pay means lower costs on products.

@SuperJoon That would seem the most logical conclusion as to why the prices differ so much but it can't be that as the overall cheapest Eshop in the PAL region is the Norwegian one. Norway is the 4th most expensive country in the world with the 12th highest GDP in the world. Over the last few months I've bought 90% of my games from there. There are some games that are cheaper on the South African Eshop but for the most part the Norwegian shop is the way to go.

My strategy is if the eShop is a popular eShop purchase there are high chances of it becoming Physical and will save money in the long run to get the Physical but then again that is me. I bought at least 4 eShop only to find out later they are now in Physical cartridges. A bummer but at least I don't have to worry about if I get a new Switch it will be easier to play the games.

The issue is not that it's expensive, but that within the same country, the eShop digital games are more expensive than the physical and retail download codes. I mean, nintendo is the one making the download codes for the retail digital ones, so why is it 15-20% more expensive if you buy inhouse? It's like owning two stores where one asks for 20% more money for the same stuff.

@Dan_Dan To put it simply, High Street stores and online retailers. If Nintendo’s eShop were to offer its games at lower prices, more people would go to them to buy them. If this happens, many stores will simply not bother stocking their products. This can have a significant impact on sales as Nintendo relies on these stores to spread the word of its products and provide visibility.
